Well I don't read this much into anime. I just watch them. If the animation and story is decent enough it will take me on journey. If it can't grab me (One Piece) then I just move on to the next one.
 
Thanks to Toonami and an extremely unhealthy sleeping schedule, I've recently gotten into a few animes. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Samurai 7 both have me hooked. I watch the others on Toonami on and off as well.
 
Claymore is the perfect anime, is so freaking epic!

Also Freeze is not half bad, pretty similar to the concept behind Claymore and it does feel like a rip off with hentai, but is fun to watch

And the soul of the show always reminded me of my old favorite, Berserk.

You need to pick up a dictionary and look up the word "same." You're using it wrong.
Now both you and Kit claim that Luffy and Natsu overcome their enemies with emotion. Kit goes so far as to claim that emotion in Fairy tail amplifies magic. I don't see that, it doesn't seem to work for the villains. To my understanding the emotional bullshit is a typical shounen cliche. On average most shounen anime/manga genres use this excuse for the protagonist to overcome.

It's used because the writers suck IMO. Especially the overblown level it's used in Fairy tail. The writers spend so much time introducing a villain, go to great length to make you feel that there is no hope. But, reality check the protagonist can't die, and must win...so there for he gets pissed and wins. Rinse and repeat.

I have never once felt that Luffy cheated himself into a victory. The reasons being unlike Natsu, Luffy is the leader of his crew. He's strongest character character on his team. The usual setup to his final fight, he's late, or he has to find a way to overcome a specific attribute of a devil fruit. But the writers never put him over a fight you thought he couldn't win. The admirals have all kicked his ass. Real early into the story Admiral Aokiji basically destroys the entire team freezing luffy whole. Smoker still gives him problems. And Batholomew Kuma has to save the entire team from getting wiped out. The prison warden Magallen pretty much almost kills him.

Natsu isn't the strongest in the guild, hell he isn't the strongest in his regular team. However, he beats every boss. And just keeps on getting stronger. Everybody claims he's weak but miraculously he gets stronger and stronger like a super saiyan after each battle. And that's because of his potential, it's all foreshadowed by his dragon powers. Again dragon powers. He's not a weak character because he's actions speak for themselves. Again the last arc I read on the Island, several members of his guild much more powerful than him are in the vicinity, but are irrelevant in the final battle. It doesn't matter what excuse the writers play out, Natsu is powerful. An unknown power. And who wants to watch a protagonist whose strength can't be measured? Not me. Kills the suspense, kills the anticipation, very predictable. What are his limits?

My assumption of your lack of understanding narrative stems from several things. The history of animes you have claimed....for example you say Naruto is bad...but you've watched how many Queen's blade episodes? An even bigger piece of shit. Why...atheistic reasons, including the fan service. Speaking of which, remember our discuss on "fan service." I remember specifically you would not forfeit the idea that nudity/sexual themes in manga/anime are not always for the purpose of "fan services." You couldn't wrap your head around the idea that these themes are some times tools used by writers to set mood/tone, basically atmosphere to the story. Because as far as your mind is concerned nudity/sexual themes only have aesthetic value. Your only objective criticism of Naruto and your analysis of Fairy tail and One piece is aesthetic. My assumptions are not without merit. If you went through the trouble of writing all that you could have spent some time posting those objective criticisms of naruto. Or posted a link, hell copy and pasted. Your IDs to anime forums aren't a form of argument.

HA i see what you did there with the fallacy.

Your opinion of emotion in shounen anime is the same as 99% of anime fans all around. Because it is what it is, a cop out. Both of these shows, hell all of these shows, use it as a means to keep the main characters going. The basic argument to the villains not being able to do is, because like most 1 dimensional villains, they don't feel as strongly towards losing anything/one as the good guys. It's not just emotion that fuels it, it's FRIENDS and your feelings towards them, and that's what villains rarely have.
And both these shows do it often.

The thing about One Piece, for the longest time, that i admired and loved was that the outcomes of battles were never power level based. Rather they were battles between unique styles of abilities/fighting that they had to overcome with skill and thought. With that there were foes that he could not defeat at all, at least not yet. This was why the show was great for a LONG while. But in the end a lot of his battles had him down and out until a friend pushes him further to finish it. Just because there was no powering up physically doesn't mean there was no emotional win. It's the same.
NOW with the introduction of HAKI however, the show has slowly made it's way into the general style of shounen anime and literally added willpower to the mix as an excuse to be able to defeat the previously unbeatable foes for Luffy. It took them a LOT longer to do this which i like, but they still did it.

Luffy may be the leader of his crew but he's rarely taken seriously. Both him and Natsu have the same role in their group and it is that they are the ones that inspire their hopes and dreams. The anomaly in the what most humans are, and that's totally innocent at heart. All about friends, all about dreams, all about adventure.
And you think Luffy is the strongest in his crew? I don't think so, it's not been proven. Last time Luffy and Zoro fought for real it was a tie. They've both powered up since then and i'd LOVE to see them go at it now, hell Sanji too maybe. Throughout the series Luffy has gained the most changes and abilities, but not necessarily making him the best, just the most diverse and useful.
With that in mind Luffy and Natsu are the same within their own circles with the major difference being Natsu isn't leader of anything and has numerous allies are clearly above his level. If Luffy was in the Navy, his Gramps would be the Guild Master and the Admirals the S-class mages.

Natsu doesn't get that much stronger throughout the series, not as much as Luffy does in his show. Natsu wins a battle by first getting inspired to do so by friends and than absorbing or combining another ability in some way to win, after that win he goes back to normal and continues to be outclassed until further notice.
Luffy actually learns and gains new abilities of his own through time, and occasionally just because. Like when he just thought that pumping his blood would be a good idea to keep up with CP9. He just thought of it days before and after taking them on and getting his ass whooped to whooping their ass.
Both ways it's because both their abilities offer a wide array of excuses for them to do things that other ability uses have and/or normal guys can't. It's their script approval, all main characters have it.

AND for the last section, this is why you're an idiot. You must have memory issues because i have NEVER said ANYTHING like that EVER. In fact it's WAAAAAAAAAAAAY the other way. I've seen 2 Queen's Blade episodes dawg. TWO, it was the first two of the original series before it was licensed and i'm done. The show is ass bro, as are most Chicks Duking It Out for Whatever Reason Shows. WTF makes you think i've seen them? How is that joined to my Naruto is ass statements?
I've had numerous arguments at how fanservice is a term used for anything catering to fans, not just nudity, AND how nudity/sex is an ample story element for settings and moods in stories. I don't know where the hell you got any of that from, thus i'm gonna assume you assumed that call you dumb.
If you are talking about a fanservice talk that went on a while back about BERSERK and how that nudity can technically be called fanservice, than you failed to grasp at how i was proving a sarcastic point to anyone that believed nudity is just fanservice AND that nudity that proves to be useful in terms of story is also fanservice. I was making an argument both ways, i was neutral.
If that wasn't even on this forum, than ignore this i guess.

And giving you my forum handles for you to look for reason that you want to hear is totally a viable answer. I'm giving you what you need to the info you want, you just need to google it. I don't care at all that you want to know actual reasons why, i can sit here all damn day looking like this

...also someone tell me when Fairytail's spin-off arc is done, I'm still waiting for the magical tournament arc to begin.

I think the Filler arc is just about done.. Next episode should be back to the main story. Also, cannot wait on Hayate season 3...lol
 
Started watching Trigun again. I thought that I might not like it as much as I did when I first saw it but god damn I still love the hell out of it.

Also manga wise I'm keeping up with Beezelbub and the latest arc is just awesome, I keep going back and rereading it because I love the character development. Oh and Gintama is the greatest comedy manga/anime ever.
 
Fairy Tail filler arc ended with the last episode, but the next episode seems to be semi-filler with the Zentopia people saying goodbye and such in the first part. I just hope they really get on the main story after this without including filler moments or characters 'till the next filler arc.
 
Going to watch Mirai Nikki(thank you HolyCarp and Pyrrus!) and Serial Experiments Lain next. How low should I set my expectations? I'm expecting the former to be...more low brow and the latter to be extremely pretentious, but I'm expecting both to be enjoyable.
 
am watching Ghost Stories. English of course. most of the voices are the same people that did Pani Poni Dash. and with that ad lib script, one of the funniest anime i've seen in a while. just makes me wonder if the japanese dub is serious but now that i've watched it in English i can't watch it in Japanese. that's like trying to watch one of the movies that Scary Movie makes fun of. You're gonna think about the Scary Movie parts whenever you see the same scene in the actual movie.

I don't really understand that lol. Scary Movie and all the movies they make fun of are all different things. It's easy to separate them because they're different.
Ghost Stories is HILARIOUS in english yet totally serious in japanese.
The show flopped, as in one of the worst anime to debut in japan ever, and was so bad the company got ADV to take it and do whatever they could to it to try and make a little bit of money from this show. Thus that dub happened.
I'm not sure if it helped any but man i'm glad they did it.

I'm just curious why people insist on using the Japanese words for the title. It strikes me as, and no offense here, minorly pretentious. Like using the word mangaka when author would suffice or sommelier when when you could just say "wine expert".

Lain is pretty good but you have to reeeeeally think outside the box and have an expansive imagination to understand the characters and plot. I personally love the anime but that's just me.

Well in some cases it's well worth it to say mangaka over author. Take Romeo x Juliet. If we say author one may think William himself while saying mangaka would imply the manga specifically.
That and most mangaka are both the author and illustrator of the story, so making it a single word is useful.
