BigLittleDave: That kind of parody style is funny but your ideas were forced out too much. The extent at which Yoshi and Algol differ is a lot more than you've credited (i.e. Yoshi's air mixups are the equivalent of jump mixups, which isn't new at all). Therefore, I didn't lol. Next time, Dave. :(

cancel your backsteps with a guard, attack, sidestep, or you could just backdash cancel with 4 (near end of backdash) 6~4 (near end of backdash) 6~4 etc and you can render that move completely useless

Just something random I was thinking:
Even if Algol proves to be the best overall character in the game-that still wouldn't warrant a ban.even if only one character at the end has a good match-up against him he isn't broken and shouldn't be banned. .

I fought a REALLY good Hilde online the other day. Every move she was doing was a charge, and was killing me with half life combos (worse than Algol), I had NO idea how to fight this "charge" style because I have never experienced it before. Does this mean that she should be put in the same spot as Algol? Or is Algol just being argued here because he is a "boss"? Or is Algol being easier than Hilde really a solid reason to argue what I just said?

Russell, I think you're just so highly against Algol because I can beat you with him most of the time in casuals (not in tourney because my Tourney mindstate isn't as good as yours it seems), and your lack of knowledge on fighting him makes it seem like I'm doing it with no skill. But I believe that if we both know how to fight each others characters properly, that we will be pretty equal in Algol Vs. Yoshi. Since we are both players who are pretty much on equal level of competitive play. I highly doubt a scrubby Algol will have any chance against you or any other great player if they take the time to learn how to fight him.

On the other hand I find Yoshi to be really good, and I've met scrubby Yoshi players who gave me a better challenge than scrubby Algol players, due to how good his mixup and wakeup game is. But you don't see me complaining.

Anyways I won't be using Algol in tournament anymore. Not because of any points made here, but because I realize that in order for myself to improve the best I can, I need to stick with my two main characters. "Why be a mediocre player with 5 characters when you can be a good player with 1 or 2"

Oof: I'm sorry if I do come off as a complainer. I did not mention at all that your Algol was scrubby. Irritating yes but scrubby no. You've seen my frustrated face when I play you. For some reason i can get around you in tournaments. Not sure why. I already know how to fight him but i'm not worried about myself. I'm more worried about people who compete with him for the first time in tournaments. Since you guys say that his beatable then fine I accept that. If people do complain then we'll just see how the community would react to it. My opinion with him being out of place will not change though.

BLDave: People will always think like this with a Boss character. They will always feel unfair because in all our gaming minds, by default. Boss characters are not allowed and overpowered. That's an opinion that will not change which is making people hard to accept this person as a character. My reason was just him being out of place.

We'll see in future tournaments how people react to a top tier Algol player. Whomever that may be.

As far as "easy win" goes. With an Algol~Yoshi matchup, the win is far easier for Yoshi than it is for Algol.

Algol is so big and slow, that several of Yoshimitsu's unblockables just cannot be escaped where "normal" size/speed characters can.

I have a friend (ValeoAnt) who mains Yoshi, and I basically main Algol. For a long time, I could beat him consistently with Algol, but he has recently zoned in on those particular sequences that prevent Algol from being able to avoid an unblockable. Now I'm only beating him 50/50. I'll beat him with several other characters I use no problem (soph, mits, seig, even Yoshi) because they can simply avoid (by sidestepping) things that Algol just can't avoid in a reliable fashion.

I realise that the projectiles are the centre of discussion at the moment, but I think if we're talking about "easy win" and indeed Yoshimitsu vs Algol matchup as a case in point, It's going to be pretty hard to argue that there's anything easy about going against Yoshi with Algol, and on establishing grounds for bannage (wtf?) the fact that Algol is easy meat for Yoshi is a relevant point.

LOL. Sorry i missed the game before. Brings back memories of Fighting games in the 90's that jump really high. VF, DOA, Soul Blade, SF, and Tekken. LOL

I wonder what made them change it.

It seems to me like the only reason that people are wanting to ban Algol is because you have to fight him so differently from everyone else in the cast. I think he has the potential to be the best character in the game but I see no reason at all to ban him. He's very beatable and can easily be rushed down making it very hard for him to start his keep away game.

I think your all just suffering from New Character Syndrome. In every fighting game that has a character that plays almost completely different from everyone else in the cast, he/she is gonna seem nearly impossible to beat them the 1st couple of times you fight them because of their differences. Yes you will get frustrated, yes u will whine about it, but once you begin to get used to fighting this character, they'll just be another character to you.

I am also a Guilty Gear player and in the last installment(Accent Core) the best character in the game is supposedly Eddie. Eddie, unlike everyone else in the cast has a little shadow that he can call out at will and attack at the same time that as he(Eddie) does. The 1st couple of times fighting him I couldn't do anything. I didn't know how to defend against his attacks or even know how to approach him because the fear of being caught in his shadow pressure was so overwhelming. Although as I fought him more I began to understand how Eddie plays and how to counter his offense with my own. Yes Eddie is still a "cheap" top tier character that can easy defeat most all the characters in the cast but now that I have some experience he is a lot less difficult to deal with that he was. I guess what I'm trying to say is.....stop whining about Algol and just learn how to beat him.
 
Algol got nerfed to hell in the 360 patch, it seems.

I didn't think he should have been banned pre-patch, but then again the SC community is supposedly known for jumping the gun on banning shit.

I would love to see how the SC community would act towards a Melee Fox/Falco, or Brawl MetaKnight/Snake.

Er.. He got nerfed by 20 damage off 3-4 combos, lost an infinite and a lousy BT wakeup game off a throw..
How is that "nerfed to hell"? Lol.

Umm, doesn't Smashboards have like a 50+ page thread debating whether to ban Meta Knight?

The thing with SC community isn't characters so much as glitches. A lot of people hated the VC bugs in SC3, and that's left some afraid of glitches in general. In SC, I don't think the characters you mentioned would ever be banned, but I *do* think CvS2 Roll Cancel would be.

MetaKnight won't be banned ever though.

No character in any Smash(up to Brawl) will be banned.

The people who make those "Ban MetaKnight/Snake/DDD" threads are the scrubs who joined post Brawl(after March 08) and never even attend Brawl tournies.

Back on topic.

Like I said, the SC community is apparently known for banning shit without any reason other than the community is scared of what "might" happen with that tactic/character/stage/ect.

Algol banning is dumb.
