Post your Evo Pool Assignment

so what does "No semis" mean?

usually they would have pools (around 8 groups or so, playing in a double elim tourney) and top 2 or 4 would go into what they called "semis", which would basically be the players that made it out of pools play in another double elim tourney. losses in pools would usually carry over to the semi finals.

but because they're only 4 pools, and only top 2 make it out, they'll have 8 players by the end of it, basically skipping the semis and going straight to top 8.

Well depending on how many TVs they need for MvC2, I'm sure the two tourneys can overlap since they are on different consoles.

unique: how did it go vs the French players?

Singles Tournament: I didn't do so hot. Worst results for a tournament yet loosing to two players that I was least expected to which are Serge and Fox (twice now). Placing a meager 13th.

Team Tournament 9 (2 vs. 2): GF's was Something-Unique(Me) & Ramon vs. Malek & MTFighter. The teams were randomly done. Malek & MTFighter won in the last set.

Something-Unique(Me) vs. Hayate: 5~4 = I won.
Something-Unique(Me) vs. Saitoh: 5~3 (Money Match) = I won. I also took him out in the team tournament.
Something-Unique(Me) vs. Kayane: 5~2 = I won.
Something-Unique(Me) vs. Kira: Alot of matches = I won
Something-Unique(Me) vs. Oni: Alot of matches = I won
Something-Unique(Me) vs. Nob: 2~1 (Only got to play him in the Singles tournament) = I won
Something-Unique(Me) vs. Malek: The most interesting one. Me and this ridiculously awesome player played at least a total of 60 matches. I think we really enjoyed ourselves playing each other. I played him in 4 MM's FT5 and it ended in a draw 2 Wins and 2 Losses. There was also a casual set that was 20-15 in his favor.

I mention the casuals because Malek stressed to me the French play at their best at all times. No sandbagging, or excuses like over here in the states. They love competition so I gave it my all and so did he. Before he leaves we also plan to have one final MM to end the tie.

Strangely enough I was the only person that was able to compete with him. I don't think there was anyone else that even came close to beating him. He dominated in the Singles tournament, Casuals, MM's, and team tournament.

I think Kero recorded one of our MM's and me vs. Saitoh so if I can get a hold of those it would be nice to watch.

Kayane I want to play again because she came from a long flight and was tired and did not have her stick that she is used to using because of complications with luggage and the airport.

I did not get to play Humphrey or Kero yet. I did play Kero one match in the team tournament and won but that was it.

What happens if there are upsets? ? ? Will shit get serious!?!!?!?

Dude, S-U has already spoken. These pools are decided. No upsets.

This! lol!

Okay... but that's still 4 hours more they're dedicating to GG over SC4. I assume things will change now that they have final numbers, but in my opinion (which has been wrong in the past) it seems like they assumed SC4 would get less people than any other game, so it got the least amount of time.

I don't even know how you can run a 159 man tournament down to top 8 in 3 hours, especially with a good number of PS3s being used for HDR.

But ya'll think I'm gonna let my dough freeze
And muthafuckas act like they forgot about E.S.O. ... (m). :)

Thanks for the vote of confidence DrDogg :)

If that's the case (which it seems to be), it means only top 2 from pools move on. They go to the final 8. So only 2 people make it out of 40-man pools.

I don't know if Evo just underestimated SC4 or what, but I find it kinda weak that GG gets 7 hours with 120 people and SC4 only gets 3 hours with 159 people.

24 stations for sc4

I'm guessing you played Malek on PS3. I noticed he couldn't get the iCS throw with the awful XBOX360 controller. On PS2/PS3 controller he just spams the move and even if you expect it, 5 frames is such a small window I can't break it half of the time even if I'm mashing A button like hell ... (this is what happened last week when Malek came to Paris and I played with him)

I'm not that surprised the others didn't do so well with the jetlag. Just wait until they adjust their sleep and you'll see what the FR level really is about !! Malek is the machine, the less he sleeps the better he gets LOL.

Please say hi to all of them from Tresto, and that I'm sure at least one of them will go the finals (or even win the tournament!)

My apologies. I stand corrected.

But if SC4 has 24 PS3 stations... how many does HDR have on Saturday? I know Evo bought more PS3s for this year, but how many did they get? lol

Tresto:

Actually Malek barely used iCS and SS at all. He used it very intelligently at clutch moments where it hurt the most. Because of it I don't think I escaped a single one.

The only one who could have possibly been jet-lagged was Kayane. Seeing how she was the only one to arrive on Sunday.

Regardless all of them were insane competitors and I value there way of thinking over most of the people from the states. There always in go mode which u have to respect and appreciate.

I think I'm gonna use Hilde while I'm in Pool C.

As a matter of fact everyone in Pool C should just use Hilde.

Fuck it rename Pool C to Pool Hilde! :D

Oh, you're right, I didn't consider the fact you play a ranged character. Kilik will nearly always stay a bit too far for throws to connect. It's in Amy vs Ivy matches that iCS becomes a major weapon. Anyway, we'll see what happens in the next days. Props to you for your wins, good stuff !
