PSN DOWN WTF?!1

I wonder if they will fix my YLOD for free now...
Man Sony can't catch a break. Hack the wii or some shit they got tons of money.

The difference in this case, is that whereas annon DDoS'd paypal and other sites who chose to withdraw support from Wikileaks ( in light of the release of US diplomatic cables im sure) , the potential attack here is much more sophisticated than a simple bombard of TCP/UDP/... packets against a server using LOIC. Annon wanted to cause a nuisance and make sony see where its corporate attitude had got it, but who-ever is responsible this time seems to have had a clear objective in mind, given that they were scanning the PSN for vulnerabilities back in February and there is one potential fraudulent use of CC data already underway ( which i linked to before).

It's definitely fair to say however, that other websites with this sort of information are equally vulnerable. There's always a way, and always a person determined enough to find it. But, Sony should adhere closely to the relevant requirements for holding credit card data ( and broadcasting that data every time you connect online to sony servers unencrypted is just an epic fail to begin with) for starters. I don't think Sony wants this attention. It conveniently mentioned the news in its blog , in its initial recognition that this could be the work of (a) hacker/hackers, right after the stock exchange closed for that day. If anything, I think Sony's scared about its finances and customer/market support base. That's made worse by potential lawsuits, as Alan-ere links above. To me it looks like sony got 1a'd... they knew it was coming, but were just too slow to react.

xbox live means, buying a system, controllers, and rebuying all my games that are only really used for online multiplayer. I would love to own both but not in a spot to do it at the moment.
bah what other game do u need good sir except SCIV? what with big swords, sexy babes and dudes, terrible net code and the legends that 1A online has engraved into the very servers we play on...this was the very reason i myself bought an xbox 360, and this is the very reason that the only game i have for my xbox 360...is SCIV. so, what say you sir? break open ur piggy bank! go $300+ into debt to submerse yourself into this ecstatic experience that can only make ones life feel more complete!

I needs my MK and Mahvel too! And Razer controllers! and online subscription!

I really took this time away from PS3 to go and do something fun, I had ladies night out. Not only did I hit up Six Flags, I also went home and cracked open that bottle of Chardonnay with the the fellow members of my Celibacy Club, and had a very fun night. It was more like ladies night day out, since we did it today. Thank you Sony. (:

I just had to get my card canceled, that some bullshit. I don't know if this has been answered but does anyone know why Sony waited a week to before releasing that e-mail saying that personal information was compromised n shit? Luckily I got a 360 to hold me over until Sony gets their shit together, I mean really after this whole debacle (from what I've read) Sony has been made to look like straight up pussies.

It's because they didn't know. They had to bring outside experts to conduct an investigation and it took a few days before they learned what really happened.

Also remember that COMPROMISED is not the same as STOLEN. Compromised simply means they could have potentially been stolen, someone got close. At this point and time there are ZERO confirmed cases of credit card fraud reported by the credit card companies. Sure, people online have been saying their credit cards have been stolen, but the credit card companies are investigated and have found zero cases related to this PSN issue.

also, you have to remember that the credit card number by itself is worthless. without the magnetic stripe on the back of the card or the cvv number, you really can't do much with it. please remember that canceling your card/ account is probably the worst thing you can do because it would create a negative impact on your credit report, and that could really hurt your credit. asking the card company to send you a new card + number because your old card may have been compromised is a better solution. you also have to realize that your information has always been out there. what this hack proved if anything is that you always have to pay attention to your shit. always check your statements, and beware of fishing schemes. If anything, that's probably the worst thing these hackers got. not your credit card... but your email, address, and password. if you use the same password on your psn as your email... well... i suggest you make changes.. quick.
