Raphael General Discussion / Q&A

Ok, now i'll know that i'll start mixing it up with A+BA after one or two successes. Thanks guys. While i'm here, I just bought the game guide today, and I would like to know if there is any changes to frame data I should know about. I bought the game after patch, so I never got to try the 22B combos anyway, so they don't matter I guess.

@darkfender I do know that, but i'm fond of the move anyway, purely for aesthetic reasons. If I was really bothered about losing a match here and there, I probably wouldn't play Raph, lol. That being said, he suits my play style of creating space more than my other fave Patroklos.

eating 33KB in place of the throw ...
old VE like this gives a good 50% mixup...

B+K is bad as hell btw because it starts 8 frames later and if you really expect a vertical a quickstep would GRANT you more damage.....instead of netting you few damage and a 50% mixup.

B+K is raph alt taunt....nothing more...
The back throw 'mix up' is 90+ meterless. I'd say it's woth testing your opponent. If you know he can duck, then going for the actual mix up with 33KB, etc. probably isn't rewarding enough and stepping would be clearly better.

Oh... and you can get B+K to work even if you have no space to step :)

And let us consider the greater intimidation involved in this move. You'll seem like much more of a mind reader, than if you just step.

... why would u guys use a 33KB mixup instead of 8B+K, A+BA 66A+B for 80 damage no meter ?

Anyways, if there are some super tracking verticals (that will catch step) will get beaten by B+K. The only one I can think of is pyrrha's 66B BE at the moment.

Oh yeah. Tested the side Cantarellas. They're awesome when they hit, pretty much the same as the old 22B combo. Thanks a lot, WuHT, you've greatly increased the efficiency of B+K.

So yeah Aris may be thinking about learning Raphael seeing as how everyone he played with so far he doesn't enjoy playing as so discuss?

Spamming prepBB and 6BB is a great way to deal guard burst damage despite the move not being able to actual burst their meter.

So far from my unstructured testing, prepBB does more soul guage damage than 6BB. After 5x 66A+B, you need three sets of prepBB to drive the opponent from neutral, to yellow to red while it takes four sets of 6BB to do so. Also, it takes four sets of 3B to drive the opponent to red, so prepBB > 3B in terms of soul guage damage!

Basic testing:
After five sets of 66A+B, how long it takes to go from neutral to yellow to red
prepBB = 3x
6BB = 4x
3B = 4x
BB = 4x
6AB/prepAB = 4x
AA = 4x
6A = 5x
2B = 5x
22A = 5x
wrA = 5x
wrB = 5x
2nd hit of 6AB = 12x

After four sets of 66A+B, how long it takes to go from neutral to yellow to red
prepBB = 5x
3B = 5x
6BB = 6x
BB = 6x
6AB/prepAB = 6.5x
AA = 7x
2B = 7x
22A = 7x
wrA = 7x
wrB = 8x
33A = 8x

Some of the other pokes are listed up there so you get a feeling of how much guard meter pressure you're putting on your opponent. Nothing really abuseable here unless you stock up on 6BB against a safe opponent who doesn't realize how quickly that i12 can add help crack their guard meter. The data isn't as encouraging enough to change your gameplan to a guard-meter crushing strat, but at least you'll know how to squeeze as much pressure as you can against an opponent

Cantarellas are the new shit, discuss THAT.
If the opponent is BT off a NH 22K at close range you can hit with 8B+K. Even if you trade with most basic BT A/B/K moves (anything i15 ish), the stun will persist long enough to still combo into 3(B).

When I get a chance... I will upload some recent videos of my Raph vs TaXi's Viola... i need help on this match up..

I play defensive Raphael until my opponent starts to play a little less safe. Then you can start to mount an offense for a brief moment and then return to defense. This is good way to pretty much upset the player into making mistakes so that Raphael can actually do some damage. He's no Patroklos who can constantly run pressure off his offense. Raphael imo needs to back off against the majority of the cast. Some exceptions are characters who can control space very well such as Astaroth and Ezio.

Although it's sometimes hard to just let go of your momentum during your offense, it will end up benefiting you more during the fight imo. However, don't be a afraid to use oki options here and there to mix things up. You don't want to be predictable either.

While messing around in some online games last night I random'd into Raph, and out of the blue completely fell in love with playing him. I feel like I have much better control of the match with him than anyone else. He can whiff punish and interrupt so well that it severely limits the opponent's hand. Also, great pokes, TCs, TJs, step punishment and 44B? ... I'm in turtle heaven.

Maybe my rose tinted glasses will fall off at some point, but I don't expect them to. I might have actually found a new main.

Good luck to you then and be prepared for the path of the fencing vamp who PS hates.

I played SC4 Maxi. I'm more than prepared... I'm traumatized. Though seriously, Raph is character with clear and significant strengths.

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome, guys. I'll likely be active around here from now on.

I still think Raphael needs this to become competitive. People will become so mesmerized they lose the will to fight.
