Raphael General Discussion

What's the Solid top 4 moves to commit to once you get a VE A off?

Throw, 3B, 33KB.....?

I know I'm forgetting something key here. What's the frame advantage off VE A anyway? +4 on block, more on hit?

Ruiner

I'm tempted to say VE A is +2 on block?

VE A on hit starts some CHEESY mixups. If they just sit there and block a backthrow is guaranteed because of the way hit stun VE A puts them in. I remember Aris posting this a long time ago and saying that they only way they can avoid the backthrow is to duck because you can't break backgrabs.

If they duck 2/8 B+K is guaranteed on ducking opponents. Again, because of the hitstun they are in for some reason 2/8B+K hits. Beware, you have to choose which one to do based on how far to the left or right they are because either 2B+K or 8B+K will whiff

Cliffnotes version
VE A on hit, your options on hit are
1. unbreakable backgrab and the only way they can avoid it is to duck
2. 2/8B+K which beats duckers. If you hit this u get a free 3B prep BBB:B combo

Keep in mind, sometimes VE A on hit if you grab you will get a sidegrab for whatever reason, And in this situation your opponent can break it

edit:

In retrospect, reading my post makes me laugh. I always get excited at the VE A mixups Raph gets but in reality they are very average best and circumstantial. Quite a few things have to go right for you to be in this situation and this is hoping your VE A wasn't ducked. Just goes to show how excited Raph players get when he gets "mixups". Other characters have much more damaging/easier mixups to apply. *sigh*

lol hey take what we can! gotta remain optimistic

So true, remain optimistic!

Raphael is a flashy "I'M AH PONY!" gimmick with some big exploitable weakness's but an intelligent player can overcome this by playing on his strengths: Fast running speed, Ranged pokes, evasive movements, strong throws, 4 or 5 solid kicks, Above average CF game......he's just an incredibly fun character to master. I can't explain it through words but I just feel as all Raphael Mainers we know this in some logical sense.

Trolt, we need to talk. Something about our mirror matches....You....dance. I mean when I watched your games and when I played you, you're constantly stepping, never really committing to 8wr, I haven't done this before because I never understood step in comparison with 8wr before, this is quite new to me....So this I NOW SHALL INCORPORATE into my Raphael game...and see where it takes me.

You guys have taught me alot....I may be too busy(...being a student in a bad economy is HAAAAARRRRDDDD) to play nearly as much as I can now, so I will make this Raphael guide before I take an educational exudus for awhile.

you can 2B+K out of VE and hit its a good mid but it has to be at point black range but you can get get 70 DMG off it

New to 8wayrun, would like some Raphael help

Dang I was hoping that stun might have some better use being one of his few stuns.

The only hard parts I find about the 360 controller for SCIV is the multifunction triggers which are great in FPSs are very bad in a fighter, and the normal face buttons stick out to far from the face plate which makes slide inputs hurt after doing to many, like Yoshi's iMCF, and the Pirates 421kBb, oh and the D-pad is unresponsive to 236 type inputs some of the time forcing me to play with the stick >_<. I play with both the directional pad and control stick, so I guess I have good dexterity? As for strategy games I think it worked great for Red Alert Tibrium wars. But yeah I do think the thing was made buy Bungie for Halo (Halo is over rated).

No problem.

I float a lot in this forum instead of actually going on PSN :) But yeah just remember, that as a raph player you kinda understand raph weaknesses. It's good to do mirrors, but also important to do raph vs others match-ups and see how the raph has to adapt.

Hm that is pretty good..im' guessing because 236 motion is tough w/ dpad on the xbox.

As a player, I move a lot more using the dpad , but it's more comfortable on the control stick (gamecube sc2)
But i guess results matter a little so dpad it is

44K after VE? That's an interesting choice o_O, I'm assuming you always BT 2B after the 44K as well o_O?

The 2_8 B+K after the VE...I heard about this but I'm not sold yet. I can't remember the frame advantage of VE A on block/hit, I think it's +3 on block and +7 on hit? Around that area? 2_8 B+K is an i20/i21, VE A is usually going to be blocked(if not punished) so you only have an i17/i18 mid that you have to GUESS which side they're going to be on to not whiff? And it can be interrupted by most character's fast attacks? I'm not seeing the big deal. VE A block side hit comfirmable for the 2_8 B+K? If not, I'm not risking this maneuver.

Raphael's kicks?

1K is NOT FAST, what is that, i21/i22?

It's a good kick to me because when you have them down in a constant poke game and they freeze up, 1k is like guaranteed damage, I always follow it up on hit with 2A since EVERYONE wants to interrupt you after doing that move, lol. I'd never just use it on neutral though, it's unsafe.

Raphael's kicks?

oh no, i follow up with it after 66b~k JFk...(<---did i phrase that rite?) anyway, or as they are getting up....
