Raphael Video Discussion

2 vids are up on my account that include Raphael. It was day 2 after my ps3 was fixed so I was rusty. The more serious one is vs pat.

Optymist100 is my account

I will upload more this weekend.

Can't post them because of mobile

When you create the video you can choose not to have the intros, it'll shave off some time of the video

Here are a few videos of my Raph. Feel free to critisize, feedback would be appreciated. Since I'm new here, I don't know how to hide the vids under a "Spoiler" banner so someone please tell me so I don't make the mistake later. Those are all online games by the way.

VS Alpha Pat

VS Ivy

VS Xiba

Here's a little riff raph from me.

Vs. Someone's Mom.

Vs. Someone I had no business beating.

Vs. Someone who had it coming.

Do resist the urge to rage at my crap gameplay

Hard to say it was "your" crap gameplay as your opponent wasn't that strong. A match can only be as exciting as the interactions between you too. Running straight at each other may have worked but becareful as other players will likely be much more defensive than that purple nightmare CAS. At least you you knew what grab break tendencies your opponent had.

VS Alpha Pat

Commenting on minor stuff, as what you did was effective against your opponents. Alpha pat's 2 hit string at 0.24 is high-high, so you can 4(B) or iwrB for good damage. Pat's aB should be more punishable (not just a 3A from raph) I believe that 3(B) is possible. Might just be a panick/online thing though.

The only difference between what you did and what I would have done in your place was that after 4(B), if you want damage opt for either a A+BA or CE ender (depending on your meter) as prepBB(BE) is pretty inefficient. After SE B, opt again for 3(B) prepBBB 85 A+BA or do 33k(BE) 2B for better damage and the same amount of meter. Those two combos are do-able online, and there may be a range issue with 33k(BE) but it looked like you had enough room to do it. Just change in combo.

That alpha pat did not respect your frames so good on smacking him continually with 3A, 4K and wracking up CH damage.

The video series shows many 22B attempts and a lot of them had a failed follow-through and it has happened to me a lot, where I choose the wrong one between 66A+B or 1B and they tech away and you lose momentum. 11BB seems to be the only reliable one at range, but it gives tiny meter gain compared to 66A+B.

Welcome!
Use: {Spoiler} Spoiler Here {/Spoiler} Replace the { sign with [

I've seen alot of confusing and distracting muticolor-neon-thunderdrum-deathscreetch customs, but maidphael may be the most disturbing one yet. Well done.

Kojiro:

nice videos... I notice you don't like to combo into CE.. is there a reason why?

Some videos of my Raph failing to be awesome.

I figured these would be best for critique since I think most of my wins come against people who aren't very familiar with Raphael and let me get away with lots of poor decisions.

Vs Siegfried (loss)
My sense of spacing and inability to finish combos is terrible :c

Vs Dampierre (win, but not a pretty one)

Comments/critique greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the tip, Mr.Hai. I'll try and remember it.

The reason is that I think it uses too much meter for unsufficient damage. I prefer to save my meter for BEs such as 3(B)~k(BE) to try and kill step or 33k(BE) with some mind game when my opponent is standing up from the ground.

I'm probably not the best to be critiquing, as I've been working on my own basic problems recently, but I'll do my best.

I think that you may want to spend a bit more time brushing up on your combos. You wasted meter on a Prep BB BE that wasn't guaranteed, and it wouldn't have broken their guard.

I notice that you are very hesitant when playing, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (especially with Raph). You should learn when to go on the defensive, however. I, myself, also need to learn this, as I tend to be too offensive. It helps to find the right moves when going on the offensive, like 2A or 66(B).

(Let me know if I'm doing it right...)

Every little bit helps. :)

I'm going to cop to my noob tendencies and admit that I haven't really used training mode to practice basics until oh...last week or so. (Not to say I never used it, but it was sporadic and inefficient.) I figured I'd practice in global/ranked but that just teaches you to spend meter whenever, because nobody blocks. :p I've been restricting my play to better people and practicing execution more, which is working much better already.

I'm particularly hesitant against the two players above--we've played a bunch of matches and they're both very good at picking up patterns while not becoming too predictable themselves. Against the Dampierre player (who subs Raph) I always worry about closing in since he has a good idea of what I tend to favor at what distance and reacts accordingly. (They both outplay me, basically.)

For all of us who use the BE and/or don't use the CE after 4B, I believe it is suprising to see that the CE is in fact, a considerably more efficient use of meter either way you approach the issue (even if you assume the A+BA combo will fail).
4(B):
- Prep~BBB, A+BA -> 70 dmg, 29 meter. Approx 29 meter gained for 70 dmg. (29/70) = 0.4 meter gained per damage point.
- Bb(BE) -> [64 - 70] = - 6 dmg, [(-60 + 13) -29] = -76 meter. Approx 75 meter spent for -6 damage. (-75/-6) = 12.5 meter spent per additional -1 damage point.
- Prep BBB CE -> [88 - 70] = + 18 dmg, [(-120 +17) - 29] = -132 meter. Approx 132 meter spent for +18 damage. (-132/18) = 7.3 meter spent per additional damage point.

4(B):
- Prep~BBB, 66A+B -> 58 dmg, 32 meter. Approx 32 meter gained for 58 dmg. (32/58) = 0.5 meter gained per damage point.
- Bb(BE) -> [64 - 58] = +6 dmg, [(-60 + 13) -32] = -79 meter. Approx 80 meter spent for + 6 dmg. (-79/6) = 13 meter spent per additional damage point.
- Prep BBB CE -> [88 - 58] = + 30 dmg, [(-120 +17) - 32] = -135 meter. Approx 135 meter spent for +30 dmg. (-135/30) = 4.5 meter spent per additional damage point.
