SC revival team

For a game that sold 2 million copies and for the few thousand members here on this site, around 60 people give or take wrote a response. That is sad.

For a community that is dying for NB to do something to this game and for the constant crying and bitching that has taken place for over a year, we should have a couple hundred responses at least in that thread by now. But it just goes to show what I already know is that most people don't really care about the game and lack the motivation to take a few minutes to write something for a game that they are supposedly hardcore about, or moved on to Tekken, or just quit altogether.

But I wrote my response and tried to spread the word. I just thought that more people would jump at the chance to post something. So I have two options: I could be completely negative and just quit or I could try something else. I'm going to try something else. I got nothing to lose.

I might as well respond to some of the stuff that has been posted so far:

Here's the thing: Soul Calibur 4 is balanced. The only thing that needs to be patched is Hilde's doom combo. Other than that, there's nothing in this game that should cause so many of you guys who are supposed to be hardcore about SC4 to quit unless you guys are just casual fans or are just hardcore about this game from the internet.

This community isn't devoid of leadership or broken. It just needs players to play the damn game, go to tournaments every now and then, support your local communities, and to not quit after a year. It's that simple. What else do you need?

Even if there was a leader, you guys wouldn't listen to him or her anyway. And even if NB released a patch, you guys would find something else to cry about and quit the game until the next game came out so that you could hop on for a hot second, then find something else to cry about in the new game and then quit again.

I'm just hoping NB reaches out to us to make the next game the best game possible. I wouldn't trust you guys to make a grilled cheese sandwich let alone try to balance a fighting game.

Anyway, keep spreading the word and keep posting in that thread.

Well Malice nobody wants to play a frustrating game. Regardless if people love the series, you can't expect people to play the game where they lose more than they gain. I guess we that have stayed, found something to motivate us while others lost theirs.

And SC is competing with other fighters and much stronger able communities. Our game is just as good as the others on the market, so where do we fail? Once we fix that we can proceed. Otherwise, you're right regardless of what Namco does the interesting for this game will still die down.

Honestly, I don't think this game's dying at all...the only thing, it seems, is that more SC players should be encouraged to participate in tournaments. Don't know what it is about Soul Calibur players, but most of them somehow simultaneously convince themselves they're the best in the world but there's also no use in participating in tournies because they'll just be another stepping stone in someone's road to victory. I mean, not saying it doesn't seem like other games have that problem, but it seems far more prevalent in SC. That, plus you always have old gamers who just quit because they feel like trying to get better is mostly useless.

The current problem I see is the way tournaments are organized, sometimes there just too many at once; a bit of overkill, and other times none. After Evo and Nationals a lot players took a break, but now break time is over so where is the next big tourney?

I'm at work with nothing to do, so I might as well write some stuff.

I know most don't want to play a frustrating game, so we should be able to come to a consensus on what to do. But even now we can't do that. But posting stuff on a forum will only go but so far. It's really up to those in each region to take charge and help others become less frustrated at the game and help them improve before they just outright quit the game for something else because they are a scrubby crybaby that wants things to come easy. You can't expect people from across the country to keep things alive.

Before I was pretty pessimistic about the state of things, but now I am optimistic about the road ahead. The game is dead in a few regions, but SC4 is not dying anytime soon. The players in the individual regions need to step up and help revive interest. No one else can do it for you. But we are at the point where the casual players have dropped off and what's left are the hardcore players.

We do have two things going for us: SC4 is still fun to play and our community is still better than the ones for the other fighting games. Look at all the people who've dropped the game but stay on 8WR all day. I know people are hopping on the Tekken bandwagon, but on a local level where I'm at, there's no Tekken community. Just individuals who play Tekken. It's already about to die in Jersey, and the game just came out. Once the novelty wears off and school is over, people will start making their way back to SC4.

As for the next big tournament, it's right here in Philly on the 1st week of December, however the amount of people who've preregistered has been less than stellar. Whatever the reason, there should be more people coming out here to have a good time and play some SC4. But I am no longer going to worry about those who aren't coming because I will be having alot of fun with those who are coming. I'm just wasting my time worrying about people who aren't coming or weren't coming in the first place.

And I said that I was going to retire, but that was just bs. I'm not quitting this game. Plus I was to see things through the tough times instead of being someone who just plays the game for a few months, then jumps onto what's new or just talks junk from the internet and does nothing. I want to be here until the end. Wish me luck.

Lot's of luck on this one, hope something good comes out of it.

Down here in NM, most of our SC players have jumped to Tekken or SF. They'll play some SC, but they're out of practice and it's just not the level you're used to. Needless to say, with nobody to play, I've had to jump to other games that people ARE playing, like Tekken and BlazBlue. We have one guy in ABQ who pretty much sticks with just SC, but we don't get to see him much.

But SC is and always will be my favorite fighter. We were trying to hold a major in February, but I'm too busy coaching basketball right now to have enough time to dedicate to the planning. But we will be shooting for something in May.

Stick with it. My question is, they patch the online play for Tekken, but SC gets no love for its online component? Or did I miss something? I haven't tried to go online with it lately either.

why am i still the last post on that thread come on guys just get discussions going on the thread to show some activity.

Soul Calibur is getting old like every other game. The major discoveries had been made already and there isn't much more to explore anymore.

IMO Soul Calibur is sleeping NOT dead. It will hype itself again either before major tournaments (especially Cannes) or as soon as a patch is near.

My question is, is it a staff thing?

Because the Tekken team since they changed again from Tekken 4 is always working, patching all the time with Tekken 5.0, 5.1 and DR to the multiple patches 6.0 received that ended in BR and BR received like 3 patches as well, now they are patching the online of the game and there could be more.

That's commendable!!!

There have been many rumors that the Tekken 4 team is the current Project Soul team and it would make sense since they never patched Tekken 4 and let Jin run loose among other problems the game had. And they made all the controversial changes to the franchise starting from SC3.

The point. If this is really true and Project Soul once again doesn't come true for us, is time to make a petition to Namco to change the current staff for Soulcalibur.

It doesn't compute to me that one staff is constantly working to improve and even please the fans and one is just lazy and nonsensical with their decisions (let's release the patch we have all been waiting for, in a handheld. Come on!!! )

I say we give them till the end of December, mid January. If nothing is heard from them, is time to do something.

Well Tekken is the more popular franchise, so it makes sense to invest more time and money into it.
Yet the way I see it now with the success of SC2, what went wrong wasn't really our fault. Someone in Namco fucked up big time with SC3...otherwise if that installation had been what it was supposed to be. Things would have turned very differently.

Negative,

It was both the community and the developer's fault. Grant it, i still love SC4. but SC3 wouldn't have been so bad had the community had been so negative about it. There were so many flaws within the community itself that played a bit part of SC3's demise. As much as you don't want to hear it. it's the truff. That's why most players left. SC4 has it's mixtures, yes Algol and Hilde leave a sour taste in the mouths currently, however do they leave as a bad impression as VC did? As the way Chicago ran SC3 nats?

No.

However, SC3 was pretty stupid too. When tekken was dumb, the community adapted and adjusted. When 5.0 came out, both the community and the developers adapted and adjusted. but for some reason the SC community has YET to adapt and adjust. (im referring to the US portion of the community.) the way i see it is this. if 2 of the 3 Major regions ban certain characters? why can't the US do it? By then it would be pretty obvious to the developers that there's something wrong with certain characters, however since we STILL have yet to come to a CLEAR, ACROSS THE BOARD picture on how the game is... If i were a developer, i wouldn't want to bother patching something either, especially if everyone is not on the same page either.

just my .02

the problem here is, that there is actually an upgrade of the game, which is the Broken Destiny Version, much more balanced than SC4. they should only release that version to consoles,..... simple.

is true, SC3 had a lot of glitches such as VC, but the only diference in SC4 is that we just need a simple Download to fix the game, is that so hard to do?..... i don't think so.

i'm tired of the fucking namco's negligence, if we (SC players) don't do anything for being heared, namco will stay in the same position of careless about the game.

In my opinion Namco don't care at all about tournament players beiing disapointed by their game.
Cause they represent maybe 1% of the people who buy the game.
Namco wants to make money, nothing else.

So the true question is do you wanna play the game or not ?
Soul BD is maybe better than Soul4, but it is on PSP !!!
This is stupid, no one will never play a fighting game on PSP.
And it is more ridiculous to imagine competition on PSP...

The only option is to play what is available.
So many things in the world are not what they should be...
You can sit there and wait for them to change... or try to adapt.

If there is another way, please tell me.

A patch is a nice thing to have, but itz not really my real concern.

My real concern here is if Namco is gonna make another Soul Calibur game.

Earlier I hear news of Namco saying that SC4 is gonna be the last of the SC series. I hope that doesn't mean Namco is gonna drop Soul Calibur forever. Instead I hope they either do a remake of Soul Calibur or continue on with SC5.

I join the number of participants in this petition in Namco's forum not only to ask for a patch (though I asked for it directly), but also to show that like these fans who posted there, we care about Soul Calibur and we don't want Soul Calibur to be discontinued.

If you look at the decisions that NB makes, it's geared towards the casual players. Hardcore players make up such a small percentage of those who've purchased this game, and players who compete in tournaments an even smaller amount. So logically, they're not going to listen to the demands of a few players.

If you had any hope in getting the attention of NB, then you would need to get the responses from a good chunk of casual players, but I'm sure they've moved on to something else by now and or traded in the game since they're casual players.

So like I've been saying, no changes are going to happen to this game unless it's a new release which I am sure they will bring out given how well SC4 sold, but will probably be released a year or two + down the road though. That's the reality unless you somehow get at least 30000 people to respond to that thread. Responses from 80 people definitely is not going to cut it.

But on a tournament level, SC4 is still awesome. I wish more people would try and play this game offline and compete instead of just quitting for something else because the game is still alot of fun.

I know everyone is clamoring for a patch, but besides Hilde, nothing else needs to be patched. So either stick with the game or move onto something else.

I think everyone is too concerned with what Project Soul plans to do. As long as they show us more fan service in someway or another, that's worth appreciating. (Remember Kayane being present in BD? Thumbs up, Namco.)

In all honesty, every single incarnation of SouCalibur has its share of overpowered moves and odd glitches. This cannot be argued, so it's unfair to say which game SC4 should be more like, or which SC was the better version. The majority of us have fond memories of the SC series, sure. So how about we stop talking about nothing and actually ENJOY what we got and just make an effort to play when we can. Have gatherings, meet up with your friends, talk strategy, post more videos, etc.

This thread has run its course, and I'm glad Mikosu wanted to give our voice another push. Time to close this thread and go back to doing what we purport ourselves to be: Hardcore fans!

Malek, i understand what you're trying to say, here in the Dominican Republic we used to do that, try to adapt with what we have, but in my opinion a videogame should be fun and competitive, i think the imbalance isn't fun, for example, i don't have fun when an Hilde brings me out of the ring again, again and again, launching a party of charges over and over again. besides that, from the begining of this SC, i had the impression that the game felt kind of incomplete, where is the character theater weapon performance?, the pictures gallery is too short, the most pathetic intro of all SCs, and still some ugly glitches that everybody knows.

believe me, i love this game so hard, since i saw SC1 on Dreamcast, but i'm really tired and dissapointed of this shit, not just me, but a lot of people from my country and in others too, i am retired from the game right now waiting for a patch and playing Tekken 6 and Omega as well, i'm the second and Omega is the first ranked in my country, i don't care about winning or losing and Omega neither, we just want a better and funnier game for our people.

so, the point that i want you people to get is: we don't have much to lose sending a post to namco's forums, but we can get a great reward if they listen to our petitions.

greetings to all SC brothers here, Peace

This. Motherfucking this.

The truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth.

People that reply adapt or whatever need to read the above quote over and over till they get it.

Haven't you people learned nothing from SC3? We stupid fucks (me included) got caught playing that beta game called SC3 US version for tournaments. We got stuck with that piece of shit broken ass beta while Project Soul released better versions elsewhere and said the ultimate fuck you to the fans with releasing an even better version with SC3AE. No problem, maybe they will release it for console.

WRONG!!! They didn't. Another fuck you to the fans.

In comes SC4 and I'm seeing a repeat of the scenario but instead of AE, they release the patch on PSP. I don't know about you but I'll be damned if I let them say fuck you to me at least again.

A suggestion. Stop being stupid and learn to demand. You are THE DAMN CUSTOMERS.

We actually have an advantage right now. SC4 has outsold Tekken 6 and that is a fact.

Use this detail to demand the patch. We are in a position of power right now, let's use it and stop being so damn conformist.

To Malice: That would be all fine and dandy but how do you explain all that Tekken patching then? How do you explain a continued support for a game that didn't reach sales expectations?

Namco is fucked in a sense that they can't hide sloppyness at least from the fans of Soulcalibur and Tekken. If a Soulcalibur turns awesome and a Tekken didn't, the Tekken fans will complain about it and viceversa. It has happened before and will continue to happen. Each franchise keeps the other in check.

To all administrators and senior moderators, keep this thread open. This ain't no otaku forum or bullshit like that were we have to be conformist and sensitive or be shut out. We are all hardcore fans, we have supported this series with our $$$$$$, with our time and life.

The issue right now is that a developing team is just being disrespectful with the customers and is time to say enough. Hopefully they release the patch before Christmas season is over so this whole situation ends.
