It sounds to me like what you are looking for is a single player game. There are many fighting game franchises that are conceived with single player experience in mind instead of the multi-player; but Soul Calibur isn't one of them. It has it's roots and it's legacy in the arcade: aka, human vs human competition.

It seems that your interests at at odds with what Soul Calibur actually is- that's the thing. If you can't enjoy online because it brings you more competition, then that speak to me that you don't play the game to learn the in's and out's of characters to better use them against a HUMAN opponent. No matter how many variables you throw into CotS, story or whatever, it's still as simple as "find what works, exploit it". No matter how many variables that exist within that mode- as long as it is predicated on fighting an AI, that mode is useless. There is no challenge.

For my part, I trudged through CotS with an Arthur and won with 3 moves: B+K, BB and throws. That is what I remember about that mode- the endless terrible tediousness of it all.

Soul Calibur is not an rpg. I think if those are the things you value in a game; you should play games like that instead of wanting SC to metamorph into that.

I really prefer Weapon Master mode to Chronicles of the Sword.
Although, I've never really had a problem with any of the single player game modes like Koz as long as the game is tight I could forgive my least favorite single player mode lol But in a vote I think they should drop it or maybe improve on it because I like the strategy feel just I think it could have done better.

So actual friends coming over to play in 2p verses mode is suddenly out of the question now? I don't remember saying that the COTS had to be the main focus of development did I? But who says they cant do it? Cyberconnect is doing the basic storymode and COTS is a substorymode itself. What invalidation did it show you that it cant be considered aviliable for who wants it? People obviously werent happy with the little to no content in SC4 which I took found it overall as a boring game. I'm sure not everyone wants to play online all day do they? There are people who want to invest on thier experience with the game to their level of imagination, not play arcade mode. Let our reasons to play the game as a whole differ but not everyone out there shares yours.

Just because the game was originated for tournament usage and etc doesn't mean it has to stay that way and trash everything else that makes a game complete when on a home console. The whole reason it didnt even take things that far was because it was an arcade game.

I don't know about you but I am not choosing to be online all day or get hungry for character moveset misconduct from people who solely play the game just to find it's holes. The secret is... there will ALWAYS be something someone will abuse especially from the new characters so why cant there be an alternative to aggrevation? Besides if you like CAS then thats where you would logically unlock items, attire parts and have actual use for them.

The COTS was great to have as an extra, of course and this isnt an rpg game but it was great that they took the time to do it anyway. Now that it is on a home entertainment system, we do have the time to sit down and play it. A complete game has both player modes worth the time and enjoyment. You found COTS tedious and enervating? oh well, shame... but for you, there's always online.

I'm not much for COTS but I can agree that it would be nice to have a game that can please on all levels
A good single player experience as well as delivering in multiplayer. Sometimes arcade isn't enough to satisfy... another mode could be good as long as it doesn't interfere with the main game itself.

There are NOT many fighting game franchises that are conceived with single player in mind instead of multi-player. In fact most are conceived with the one on one human competition in mind. Most developers are more focused on the balance and the aesthetic (especially the aesthetic) then they are making a truly revolutionary AI. With all the precision and variables that go into a single fight programming a truly human like AI would be an absolute nightmare. You really have to make the AI understand flaws in human reaction times, judgement, spacing, etc etc.

Another thing, Soul Calibur does have its roots in the arcade BUT It also happens to the poster child for expanded single player elements in its home console iterations. In fact pretty much all of them had some expanded mode to them. So you see Soul Calibur is actually one of the PREMIER single player experience fighting games.

Really I believe we need some balance between out hardcore and our casuals. I understand you feel its a waste of time that they could be using to polish up the elements of the game you enjoy the most. However, those alternate modes with the bad AI were elements that many people enjoyed about the Soul Calibur series. Sure I spammed the running shoulder charge launcher and two vertical slashes so what. I enjoyed using it as well as all the other cheap moves that were available to my CaS army. If they can take the good aspects of CotS expand them and make them better that can only be a good thing.

There are a lot of people here who live for online but for every one of those, there are others (like moi) who, for whatever reason, (non-gamer friends, bad connection etc.) don't have much competition at all. That's why single player modes are important to making an already good experience better :) So yeah, I think single player's important. And if you feel otherwise then you probably don't live in the most barren, empty SC community in the world (population: me)
CotS was by no means perfect but it was a whole lot of fun and I would love to see it come back (Die Tower, DIE!) ^_^

It would be even more cooler if they returned Chronicles of the sword mode back, accept online with up to 4 players co-op.

Chronicles of the Sword if it is implemented better and focuses on the Soul Calibur Cast and not some random pointless kingdom and characters I don't care about. For example, it would be great if it focused on Wolfkrone, or something relevant like that.

I say yes it would be a nice edition...if it actually related to the world and/or cast of characters. It was definitely fun to play...anything though is better than the ToLS.

Soul Calibur may be a fighting game but one of the things that let it really take off with Soul Edge/Soul Blade was the character motivations and personalities. The world itself was interesting as were the characters. It may be a fighting game but character development and interactions are a staple part of what makes Soul Calibur unique in the fighting game industry. I'd hate to see it lose this.

I dont like exclusive modes, it should have the option to have online multiplayer like SC4's Arcade but doesnt force you to do it online.

Yes, the story should be about Hilde and relevant to the history, it makes the most sense, however they need to make a enemy for her, I just hate the random CAC soldiers, she needs an enemy who actually gives plot to the game like Zas was to SC3, a brand new character but taken seriously in the main story as well and when will she encounter nightmare legitamently? SC in general needs more knight characters.

Indeed, G4 and X-play gave SC3 an award for most single-player content in a fighting game a few years ago. Tekken should learn from that.

i loved CotS in SC3. So it would be nice to add on to the game's story ( even have a side story).

I voted yes, even though I would accept any decent single player. For example, I thought that Soul Calibur 1 and Soul Calibur 2 had very nice campaign modes. Soul Calibur 3 seems to be the gold standard for single player, with both a campaign mode and CotS... but I doubt we'll ever see such great treatment again.

I would LOVE for Chronicles of the Sword to be in SCV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE CHRONICLES OF THE SWORD!!!!=O
