I haven't played SC3 but I noticed that she had some strong whiff punishing tools as well as mixups from SE that made her seem really powerful. Not to mention the old buffering system...
SC3 Ivy looks strong to me, SC5 Ivy doesn't. But who am I to say - I haven't played either game.
Anyway which moves have better properties? And why do you think it will be ok even though you admit she has one of the weakest NH damage?
SC3 Ivy had i15 CS/SS and that made her seemingly powerful. In terms of raw combo damage, she was possibly even worse than SC5 Ivy. To even things out, players had to take advantage of the infamous 2P bug which caused SW 1_2_3B+K to do double damage in combos (like Link combo FC1B:214K, 1B+K or 22K RCC 1B+K).
SE was better than in SC4 but due to different game mechanics (Advance and retreat guard) it was almost as bad, despite the 50/50 throw mixup (holding 4 after blocking SW 66[K] pushed you out of the mixup range). In a nutshell, she was all about pokes and CS/SS. I think they balanced her a bit more for SCV by reducing command throw damage and slightly buffing other things.
SC5 combo starters appear to work very similar but mostly with better properties.
- FC 1B explained already. Much better than in SC3/SC4
- 22_88B KND on NH, launches on CH and with BE. In SC3 it only launched on CH.
- 2A+B is the same, but CH damage is better.
- 3B seems safe with a huge pushback. Also still combos at close range. SC3's NH version had no guaranteed followups and worse pushback.
- 22_88[ B ] guarantees BBB or 5-hit JF. In SC3 you could escape the JF version using retreat guard (it was ridiculous)
- 1_2_3B+K is still the same, damage around 60.
- CH 22_88A (SC4 SW 44A) is the same as in SC3, but combo is stronger.
I'm mostly interested how those moves look frame wise, because damage wise they look better than in SC3 due to 6B8 BE and 9A+B,[ B ]. Plus, there are some new launchers like 66B BE (CH).
What I'm concerned about, though, is her pathetic low game (possibly her worst since SC1), wakeup and not enough fast mid step killers (Her lows is also what should online players be concerned about, because 1K, 1A+B, 1A, 11A are all slow enough to be considered lag tactics. The only "legit" ones are 2K and bK)
This is something I look forward to checking once the game is out. Or maybe people will find something new when they get to play the game at NEC.
