SCV Story Mode is only 1/4 of the Planned Size

It should be like SCII but better. You complete a stage, and that stage leads you to other one, or two, or three... but there will be some paths wich are doable with certain character (So they kinda force you to use them all) and some paths that leads you into a treasure chest wich could have 3P clothes (end of a Character Path) or more clothing options (End of a normal path)

It's disappointing really, yeah i know that story is not a big deal in a fighting game....
I'll take back every game nowadays has pretty much a story behind it, i mean look if you want to play a game, you have to at least know why the characters/the thing that you play purposely do that, because in almost every game nowadays has a PLOT. AC3, warcraft,MMO games, most games that looks like action,a story is a must actually...including SC V, but that's just my opinion actually.

But im glad daishi stated that he felt disappointed with the story mode, unlike ME3, who themselves felt fine with their "ending"....

I like this idea. They should've gone back and saw how good SCII was and make a blueprint based on it and build upon it.

So here's why I think namco decided to rush the release of scv instead of pushing back the release date.
PS goes to namco with their incomplete game and asks for more time. Namco says no because if SCV were released any later, it would be in direct competition with...Street Fighter X Tekken. And while namco had nothing to do with the development of that game, i'm sure they and capcom reached some sort of deal to space out the release of their games so each series would remain at peak hype for as long as possible. Releasing scv any later would have screwed up the whole schedule...and that's why we have a shitty story mode.

Namco knew this ahead of time the moment they decided to put the pen to paper collborating with Capcom on Street Fighter X Tekken. If Project Soul were to have made Soul Calibur V, it should've been at a time where they should not have disbanded but at the same time plan ahead to have at least time to work things out in their favor. Namco was too busy worrying about SF X TK to care less about SCV or what PS was going to do at that time, as if it was in the back of their minds not to mention they wanted SCIV to be the last SC game, which is understandable but for some of us, it felt like there was no closure in the fourth installment of the game. I now see where PS had their hearts set on but given the timeframe they had, I can only feel sorry for Project Soul.

Even though this whole 4x longer thing is fine and dandy, I'm just curious now as to what stopped them from accomplishing that. A deadline, sure, but from what? Namco?
Sorry, total noob in the gaming industry business, here.

NamcoBandai gave Project Soul a time frame to finish the game. They didn't have enough time to put the full story in.
I'd also wager that the short time frame is also the reason for the storyboard cutscenes.

It would've been beneficial for us to know more about the characters in the story mode. We would've at least gravitated towards them and knew of their relations with other characters instead of having to look through an artbook that contained all the information.

Yes, I agree.
Focusing on only 2 characters, when there are 26 other characters who have interesting stories, was a really bad idea.
Hell, we still know nothing about Viola.
Any and all evidence points to her being Amy with amnesia, but we'll never know for sure because she was given no in-game story.

For a gaming company, NamcoBandai has a horrible idea of how much time it takes to make a quality game.

Well, they give Tekken all the time in the world to do whatever as well as those anime-related games that don't always sell well, Ridge Racer, and Ace Combat. But when it comes to Soul Calibur, it always gets the short end of the stick. I'm starting to believe Namco Bandai really doesn't want to do anything regarding Soul Calibur because they were too busy promoting Street Fighter X Tekken as well as continuing hyping up Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

I factor in budget with that due to how it panned out for cutscenes. If we are going to blame the producer for what happened with the development, we need to treat timeframe and budget equally.

I hope they don't wait to make the next Soul Caliber to continue the current story, the ending was just left with so many questions, like what happened to Tira, or Z.W.E.I or Viola?! Why is Phyrra's hand still looking evil, and will it go back?! They need to make a book or DLC explaining all this..

The japanese artbook has a lot of backstory for all the characters and fills in details like where Kilik got his weapons as the new Edgemaster, where Night Terror and Algol are and what they are doing, what happened to Cassandra, what is the relationship between Viola and her orb, etc. There is a lot of trivial and integral parts of the plot explain for even the most minor characters (the CAS minions) from all the previous games.

I would advise you head there if you are hungry for more lore. As for the actual plot line, unless there is a Super Soul Calibur Five or an expansion pack with all that story, what we have is what we are getting, I believe.

I hope you mean Amazon and that you are starving to translate Japanese. It is not available in the US.

Shall Forgon refer you to this illustrious thread which has admirable members of the community who take the time to translate the work and share what they understand for us less knowledgeable?

darn, I thought you were talking about the art book that comes with the collectors edition from the U.S SC webside

I dont understand is that hard to come up with a new villain?! they kill soul edge like 4x times already?! How about a new sword or dude comes to the scene that wants to destroy the world or something, and both soul edge, and soul caliber need to stop this thing before it destroys them.

The series' concept is about the "tale of souls and swords eternally retold" for a reason. Besides, a new villain implemented how you want is, honestly, not only a little cliche (moreso then SC already is) but also, in my opinion, wasted management. Soul Edge is the big bad, he is the recurring villain, the central plot point that keeps the series together.

Suddenly going, "Let's change it up and have a new villain," detracts from the overall concept of SoulCalibur: a fighting game series telling the story of many people from across the world all connected to the conflict between two swords.
Besides, I cannot see most of the characters willingly working together for their respective "master" without trying to kill each other at every turn.

In essence, it is not that the developers cannot come up with a new villain (Algol, anyone?) but that a new villain is always going to be connected to the Evil Sword because that is the whole concept of SoulCalibur's plot! Besides, it is not like Soul Edge is an actively evil face we always see time and time again, it shares a role of duality as plot device and antagonist (due to its unique nature) and usually ends up being a major character but not the overarching enemy (as Nightmare).

-SE/SB=Cervantes
-SC=Nightmare
-SCII=Inferno
-SCIII=Zasalamel
-SCIV=Algol
-SCV=Elysium

New villains were added three times to the series, with Zas and Algol being really interesting and dynamic characters. Elysium is a bit of a headscratcher for me because now there is an obvious conflict with SoulCalibur being just as destructive to humanity as Soul Edge. You are welcome to your opinion, but I ask you at least understand why the swords are so integral to the plot in their constant battle for supremacy.
