SCV Story Mode is only 1/4 of the Planned Size

While I agree, I have to make myself think realistically. Because there's a part of my brain that wants to hold everyone and everything to a high standard, you know? Especially things I spend time and money on.

But honestly I read Conan novels and watch cheesy kung fu movies and generally spend a lot of time with entertainment that you could call drivel. I just take it for what it is. I don't expect these Japanese software engineer guys to give me an awesome story. They make a hell of a game though.
I think I'm able to enjoy stuff people consider drivel as well. Most people will likely call Commando a stupid movie with zero depth, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the mindless entertainment it provides.

But I honestly see nothing redeeming about the story mode in SC5. It's not fun to play (gameplay wise it's even more basic than an arcade mode), and the story is so so so stupidly bad. Why does ZWEI call Patroklos a dog 3 times in a row? Why is every SC character talking a walk in the same forest on the same day? Why does Patroklos go searching for people from Asia in Europe? Why the heck did he actually find them in Europe? Why is Patroklos killing people because they're pale and filthy? Why can't Pyrrha say nothing else but "Sorry!"? Why does Siegfried give the soul calibur to a complete stranger, who's only shown how arrogant and distrustful he is? Why does everybody have flat bland personalities? Why does Patroklos want to have sex with his sister?

If they're gonna continue making a story mode without getting new writers, they should go the route they took with Broken Destiny and just write a silly storyline. At least that's something they can succeed doing.

Heck, they could have a fanfic contest and then hire the winner of that contest to write the storyline and dialogue for the next game. I honestly think the result will be 10 times better than what we got with SC5.

Why does Patroklos want to have sex with his sister?

This is win. I honestly thought they were actually going to do so on two occasions - one being in the forest (before random Asta ambush I think - that was one of the many things I couldnt understand), and the second being at the ending.

They were looking into each other's eyes....for way. too. long.

To be frankly honest with everyone, I have everything unlocked in SCV (save for achievements/trophies) without having played a second of Story Mode yet. Don't plan on it. Don't particularly find Story Modes appealing (save for a "Tales of Souls" SCIII style of Story Mode).

Although DLC story might spark an interest for me. Who knows.

I really don't understand why people saw the relationship between the Alexandras as "intimate". Yeah, it was funny the first few times the joke was thrown around (I think?). But they're SIBLINGS. Siblings that haven't seen each other in over a decade, mind you. This also makes me question whether or not the same people who consistently throw this joke around even have siblings of their own.

My sister was in the Sichuan province of China, living there and teaching at a school for about 3 years. Yeah we would Skype and stuff, but I still missed her like crazy. When the earthquake hit in 2008, you would not be believe how relieved I was to see her when she got back to the States. I hugged her for days.

But that's a topic for another day, I don't want the thread to derail onto a tangent.

I don't think it's intentional, but there's some scenes which unfortunately implies it. For instance, at one point Patroklos tells Pyrrha he wants to spend his entire life with her. That doesn't really seem like something you'd say to a sibling.

I wonder if the scenes in the studio were all in 3D graphic; the static images might have been use because of the time constraint. I recall Ubisoft saying that the dlc they gave for Assassin's Creed II were originally a part of the story, but left it out due to time constraints (and they charged for it T_T). If Namco decides to release the rest of the story as dlc, it might not be free either, but I'm sure it'll be worth the price.

The problem is Japanese software engineers shouldn't be writing stories. They should be engineering softwares. They need to hire some real writers to write the story.

And I honestly can't believe it would be so expensive to hire on 1 or 2 professional writers to make something that actually makes sense, is engaging, and covers more than just the stories of 2 characters. They went and hired that production company that did the story mode for that faggy anime fighting game, I'm sure that cost them a fortune, and they got ripped off anyway. (The cutscenes they actually did make were really pretty, but 90% of it was just pre-production concept storyboards).

Heck, they could have a fanfic contest and then hire the winner of that contest to write the storyline and dialogue for the next game. I honestly think the result will be 10 times better than what we got with SC5.
I really think the quality would be a hell of a lot better. There's some fairly good fanfic writers (and probably professionals too) who would crawl out of the woodwork for a chance to get their story in a big game like this.

You missed the part in the CE book that says:
Tira seduced Pyrrha.
So now everyone says lesbians in my Soul Calibaaaaah!

People like to make weird 'ships. Sometimes, the language lends itself to it. Other times, it's like a weird family unit break down. There isn't anything incestuous about wanting to reunite your family after so many years, but people just have to make that weird leap.....

I guess it wouldn't make a good hentai without it.

This is just a dick-move on Namco's part if just for the sake of content. Odashima and PS obviously put a lot of time, effort, and money into wanting that story mode to be significant. Heck, I also feel really bad for the actors having to have all that VO recorded only to have it scrapped just because Namco was too impatient to just wait until a more proper release date (like the summer where NOTHING is coming out). I THOUGHT the Story Mode felt like cliff notes and now I see that it literally WAS cliff notes.

Sounds like there will be DLC coming for the game for at least a few months more. It also means Namco hasn't gone crazy and disbanded the team yet due to poor sales.
Yet this means "put a lot more money in our game"... I'm a bit disappointed to pay more, yet looking forward, especially for the "tonnes of parts to come" :D

Not good enough. Not enough time? I didn't even think they had a date that they had to finish it by...
Wasn't it supposed to be "Mid March" and they put it in February? They have no excuse :D

Plus, they're already talking about SCVI? ... Well, hope they began working on it to release the game in 2014! It might be complete that way... xD

It's pretty apparent that Namco rushed the game out the door. Content wise, it's very incomplete. Luckily, that didn't affect the fighting system and the game itself is really fun and mostly solid. I'm pretty sad that the interviewer didn't ask about the possibility of new character DLC though.

On SoulCalibur IV I was a game designer, in charge of character designing in game design. In SoulCalibur V I’m the director.
IMHO, he should have continued as a character designer, because I think SC3 and 4 had the best character designs. Taki for example actually looked like a beautiful Japanese woman in 3. IDK what happened in 4 to turn her French/Spanish/IDK what, but her SC4 1P outfit was by far the best in the series. I'm really not crazy about the characters in 5.

There’s lots of DLC to come for SoulCalibur V to use in the creation mode, which should be coming every four weeks and there are tonnes of parts to come.
This makes me happy. Now if they would just fix the bulkiness of the parts and the clipping/incompatibility problems between parts, I'd be super happy.

can maybe be used for SoulCalibur VI
Confirmation of the sequel? :D Unfortunately, IMO, it looks like it's going to continue the same story we have now. Let me channel Ms. Cleo here and predict, "THE EVIL SWORD WAS SHATTERED, BUT SOMEONE PUT THE PIECES BACK TOGETHER FOR THE SEVENTH FRIGG'N TIME AND NOW THE AZURE NIGHT TERRORIZES THE PEOPLE AGAIN, CONSUMING THEIR SOULS!" Mark my words, I'm calling it.

Our first plan on the storyboard was that we had every characters story, and actually we do have it in the studio, but time-wise, man power-wise we weren’t able to do it and only one fourth of what we planned to do is in the game. Actually, some of the voice-overs are already taken but haven’t been used, so we want to make use of it somehow, but we don’t know how that’s going to be.
Almost 100% positive it will be a "Super" Soul Calibur V released next March or something. :P

well as far as the official story or w/e goes [tira seducing pyrrha], I think the english translations seem to often be over dramatic. I'm pretty sure it is closer to tira taking pyrrha in rather than "seducing".

as far as patroklos wanting to have sex with pyrrha ... probably a mix of over dramatic translation and also people's minds taking a wrong turn.

great example would be devil jin from tekken... has a intro quote "fear the wrath of god" in the translation ... but he is actually just saying "i will teach you fear"

Yep. I don't know if necessarily next March but yeah I'd be willing to bet there is going to be a Super SC5. The only question is will they announce it at E3 or Tokyo Game Show?

I wouldn't be surprised if that ends up happening. They need to find ways to reduce the budget (short development time is an easy way of doing that), and Capcom has shown that re-releasing the same game can be profitable. I hope they price the game appropriately if they do this.

I wish they could give a discount just to people (LOYAL FANS) who bought the game when it first came out, rather than just decrease the price a couple bucks for everyone, including the fags who are just jumping on the bandwagon once SC has a good story mode. They should have to pay the full $60. I don't know how they would differentiate though. Should have maybe put in a registration card.

As much as that makes me worried about the overall cost, I would gladly buy that version of Soul Calibur that fixed everything that went wrong with the first version. But I might also settle for the DLC updates, too.... ^^
