Soul Calibur 5 Guest/Bonus/CAS Character Discussion

Actually, considering the fact so much of the roster is new, guest characters seem like a hideous waste of possibly interesting combat styles. If a guest character has a good moveset, we could have just given it to a new character no? Seems like a really bad time for guests.

I've always liked the idea of guest characters. I don't know why people are so against them.
I'll gladly answer that. From a traditionalist POV:
  1. They aren't genuine characters of Soul Calibur.
  2. It just shows that guest characters have a more powerful presence than SC characters.
  3. The majority of the audience milked into guest characters could careless about the original cast nor the game itself.

the quest characters helped make the game more popular in a way.

Ex: Sc4 had Vader, yoda, and app making star wars fans be curious or interested in purchasing or playing the game then boosting the income of $$ for the company(ies) as those fans bought it

That answers #3. The vast majority are interested in purchasing the game only cuz of the character that derives from a popular game title. Therefore, they are milked into it. More often than not they love to see their guest characters beat the crap out of all the original SC cast and pretty much don't bother learning on the majority aspects of SC.

It does provide income but, it's not a genuine way of making the SC franchise stand out that way. Do you think upon the next iteration of SC w/o that guest character they would gain back the audience that go for that guest character? Perhaps a few but too little to compare to a vast majority of guest lovers.

My post from the 5 points thread:

4- I like CaS mode. Make it bigger, add a lot of past official characters parts, make me able to do perfect replica of lost characters from SC (Hwang, Li Long, characters we are going to lose with the 17 years jump).
Only great change i hope to see is make CaS character get A LOT bigger or smaller if you chose some styles (example Talim or Astaroth) to have the same hitbox of the original character. Whiners will whine, let them do it.
Also visually it will make the CaS better, CaS with big guys style seem ever ridicolous small even at 50+50+.
Put in the style of past characters that don't survived the 17 years jump (from SC4 or in Hwang's and LiLong's case SC3AE) avaible for CaS, but keep them out of ranked matches.

Can i add something?

-give the possibility to put only one of "twin parts", for example: steel gloves? only left, only right or both two.
So gloves, shoulder pads, legs protection and so on

-TONS more body stuff: A LOT of faces, A LOT of haircuts, beards/moustaches, tatoos, scars

-remove(or at least separate) that more muscle definition = oiled skin effect, is weird.

Hell, it worked for Smash Brothers...
Smash Bros is built upon all Nintendo characters which derive from other popular Nintendo games. Because these game characters come to know of so well, Smash Bros unites all Nintendo fanboys from different first party games together in a brawl fest.

Soul Calibur on the other hand is built upon original SC cast, but little did they do like Nintendo to promote the SC cast in such a popular fashion. So adding a guest character further takes away the attention of newcomers while traditionalist like myself pray that these SC cast get much better attention.

I wasnt making a theory nor guessing. i was saying and i agree with you 100%.

Just a small point I'd like to make here:

Solid Snake was not selected for smash bros because of his Nintendo title, he was selected for the obvious Solid series and it's massive popularity. It was just luck for them that he was already on a Nintendo/Famicom game previous to that so they could say "Oh yea, he was in a Nintendo game!"......They added him to help sell the game, nothing more.

And, let's not forget Mr. "You're too slow!" either.

Sonic, who used to be the competition for mario, has been reduced to nothing than mere fodder for Mario's feet as a guest character.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

Sorry optymuss, I misunderstood you.

Also both MammothMan & MrGrunsworthy are right about guest characters appearing in Smash Bros Brawl, just that I was referring to Smash Bros in general.

But ya that's my 2 cents on why ppl in SC don't like guest characters.

from Daishi's twitter:
"Just to tell you, the guest character has already been decided. I can’t say anything else because we have deals with the other company."

Who do I want to for a guest character? Personally, FF characters. I’m Japanese so the first thing I think of are Japanese games."

If is really from FF
Sephirot
the New dude of FF13 Versus
Auron
Squall
Kain Highwind
Vincent
Cid
Cloud
Zidane
Steiner
The GF Gilgamesh
The GF Odin
A Chochobo
Random character #27 of random FF title

But please

Please

Not lighting from FF13

Lightning would be the most logical choice if it is an FF guest character. She's the newest face, she's the heroine of two games (FFXIII and Duodecim), she is the new poster child that Square-Enix is trying to push, she's very popular amongst fans in Japan. All of this tied together will help create revenue for the game, which is ultimately what Namco wants.
