Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

That seems to fall in line with this, which I posted about earlier. But Marcus Sellars's tweet says it's a remaster of the first Dark Souls game, while the info from the aforementioned link suggests it's a collection of all three. I guess it still matches up enough, though.

DkS2 and 3 are already available on PS4 and X1. So that make sens that it will only concern DkS1 for those consoles.

Dark Soul Collection could be and would make sens if it's for the Switch, since there is no Dark Soul game on it, right now at least.

So in that matter, the 2 leaks still coincide.

Ohhh, okay. I don't really follow Dark Souls, so I forgot 2 and 3 were already on PS4 and Xbone.

If we take it that way, Marcus said to someone who wanted SCVI and a Tales of game that he would be "50% satisfied", then Marcus has been hinting towards SCVI and now he is kinda confirming Tales of.

I think, as for the rest, we shouldn't get hyped over simple allegations that are sometimes contradictory.

Marcus confirmed a new Tales Of.
And He also 100% confirmed Soul Calibur 6.

And... Tales of Versperia R is not a "New" Tales Of btw.

So, what's the general consensus on the possibility that SC just lost the man responsible for their iconic character designs?

People come, people go. And you make too much drama because of one person you hate on the development team. Do you really think only one person will do everything in a game?

Assuming that's the case, it sucks. It really sucks. His art is great, and he's so heavily associated with Soulcalibur that it'd be a shame for him to leave.
...In fact, I can't seem to find anything else he's done besides SC and occasionally Tekken.

I don't hate Kawano, unless you're referring to Daishi but he's been off the team for years. The thing is, Kawano contributed iconic designs while Daishi almost single-handled destroyed my love for SC, so there's that.

Anyways, I wish there was someone we can reach out to in order to ask this question, but it seems like everyone is locked off right now.

Takuji Kawano's official artwork almost always have amazing action-poses (personal opinion).
His IMDB isn't complete as it misses the latest SC installments

He was the artist for the characters in namco X capcom (over the capcom artists).

Not sure if all the Project X Zone 1/2 was his art but I know quite a few pieces are

Check out Rise of the Incarnates and its obvious who the artist was:

Lastly: Kawano is more responsible for the final touches of character design and generating the official character artwork. The ground-up design isn't necessarily done by him. You can check out the NLPS artbook and you'll learn about it.

Yeah, but it worries me that he didn't have an interview when the rest of the top brass did. Maybe he's reclusive? I don't know.

Have you seen his personality in Daishi's interview around the office ? He didn't seem like the talkative type.

The only man aside from Takuji Kawano that embodies Soul Calibur's overall aesthetic design is the musical composer Junichi Nakatsuru. Those 2 dudes helped shaped SC's definitive experience.

Granted, in SC5 there were different composers introduced as well, and Junichi Nakatsuru was not responsible for the "Edge of Soul" masterpiece, but he still had massive contribution to SC's development.

I suppose Hoshino provides guidelines for other artists to work with (probably something like "make it as sexy and/or over-the-top as possible) and they design them for a payment. I guess that makes the idea that PR helped design the characters look more true, but still I'd hate it if he left because his designs are part of what makes Soulcalibur, well, Soulcalibur.
I don't know if it will really affect SC's direction so long as they follow the right motifs for the characters, and what PR did thus far looks better than what was given in SCIV already. All PR needs is just to know who the characters are, where they come from culturally and get creative with that. Hopefully not having the innate direction PS was going toward with the Sexy> Stylish.

If true, I would be really bummed. Generally love the work he's done, certain designs (which he may not have been responsible for) aside. I consider his art to be a significant part of the Soul series' flavor, similar to Ayami Kojima and the Igarashi-era Castlevanias, or Yoji Shinkawa and Metal Gear Solid.

Well, to be fair Sophitia is looking pretty sexy in that concept but I see what you're saying. I don't think Hoshino has much in the way of "standards" if he was willing to hire a hentai artist to design costume sets, not to mention he gave Mari Shimazaki a very different direction compared to what Daishi gave her. We'll see if they still have Kawano, because I still think his designs are crucial to SC. While not all of his designs were the most "logical", a lot of them are still a part of what gave SC its identity.

I had always hoped they'd change SoulCalibur's in-game art style to reflect Kawano's official artwork, pencil lines and all. Kind of similar to their work on Jojo's ASB.
