The developers at Namco’s Project Soul division have allegedly been arguing over the past seven months about how big Ivy’s breasts should be which is causing the development of Soulcalibur 6 to be repeatedly delayed.

While Namco has declined to make any public statement in regards to these rumors, Soulcalibur V director Daishi Odashima recently spoke in an interview with Dengeki about development problems during Soulcalibur V caused by Ivy’s appearance and how it started all the way back during Soulcalibur IV.

“While working on the fourth game, people were starting to wonder if we were pushing it with how big we were making Ivy’s breasts,” explained Odashima, “As I had known in advance that I would be the director of the fifth game, I decided to secretly make the decision to have the game take place many years after the fourth one. I figured no one would want to see an old Ivy. Little did I know that many staff members at Project Soul really enjoyed seeing Ivy’s breasts.”

“I was forced to concede and so the team added a youthful Ivy back into the roster and we were back at square one,” continued Odashima, “Then the arguments started again. It was about a half and half split this time with some wanting to cover her up and some just wanting her almost naked. I said that we should maintain some level of realism but that didn’t deter people from wanting her breasts to be even bigger than before. After three months, we came to a solid consensus on her appearance. Now I find myself embroiled in an even bigger argument.”

“I feel that some members of Project Soul are burnt out from solely working on the Soulcalibur games,” theorized Odashima, “I have a hunch that some staff members only stay so they can work on the physics for Ivy’s breasts. Some even work overtime on her character model even if they are not part of the character design team. Rarely can we focus on the battle mechanics or the blocking system without some member pointing out that it might impact how Ivy will move. I should just put my foot down and get rid of her as a character altogether but then a lot of our staff would probably quit.”

“In a poll asking players what they thought of Soulcalibur V, many chose to skip the game altogether after learning that Taki would not appear in the game. It was the top reason players chose not to buy the game with the second being that Sophitia would not appear in the game.

Too bad for Ivy she is living in like the 16th century and breast reduction surgery is not an option...

The more souls she consumes... the more they grow! O_o

lol... I genuinely enjoyed reading that =p Good laugh. But I sometimes wonder if these kinds of discussions actually do take place in game development.

They probably did have some serious discussions about it. Looking at concept art, you can see they were really uncertain on Hilde's bust size for instance.

^ LOL poor Amy... ^^;;;

I never knew game development could be so "democratic" ~ as briefly described in the (joke) article above.

Thumbs up to the bloke who gets to work on that aspect of the game... lol.
"So what's your job over at Project Soul, what do you do?"
"Breast physics"
"Lucky you ;)"

I guess that explains it folks - the sudden abrupt end to further balance fixes, patches and DLC... no breasts, no further development. lol

Playing D'sC right now(awesome), Sorceress raised the challenge to a point where Ivy's backbone will be in serious danger

REAL TALK MOMENT!!!::::

Make sure you buy SC2HD remix, I know Namco is releasing it to test the waters to see if they should "green light" Soul Calibur 6 and begin developing the game. Capcom did this same thing when they released MvC2 on the marketplace, a year and a half later they released MvC3 because it was successful. The same thing happened in early 2008 when they re-released Street Fighter 2 HD on the marketplace, it sold very well, so they green lit the development of Street Fighter 4 which came out later in 2009.

I feel this is the same scenario as I've seen this happen with other game franchises... They're testing the waters to see how popular the franchise is, how profitable a sequel will be, and weather of not to make one (of course). Developers will only make sequels to games that they know will sell really well, otherwise it's a bad investment. That being said... I hope it sells VERY WELL!!! >:3

I don´t know if it is like that, but I really hope for SC6 and of course they can count with me, I´ll buy SC2 HD the first day, in fact I already have the money ready inside my xbox account.

But I have to say, trough the internet I see a lot of people complaining about the price of the game, a lot says that they would buy it if it were cheaper, so I don´t know, just hope it sells good anyway.
