SOULCALIBUR 6: News, leaks and information discussion.

I'am preparing a video to talk about all this but I will summarize here some of my thinking :

The first reason I can see them switching to Hwang over Yunsung is because Hwang is still popular without being playable for a while and more precisely we have to check Korean fan base here, because it's obviously the targeted fans.

The second reason (and it will make sense with the first) may be in the backstory and context. If Japan and Korea is in war in this TimeLine that makes Hwang a more suitable character for Korean's fan base, because Yunsung will be either too young or will not take this context seriously.

BUT

- I still don't understand for Cervantes. Maybe they want to put some very popular char on DLC to make sure people will buy them ? It can make sense for Zasalamel, putting a so popular character in DLC was already been leaked and was quite odd but it may explain that strategy... maybe they switched Cervantes/Zasalamel.
- OnePece character will be very hard to include because of his design. Huge risk of failing him so much that fans will not play him.

When I originally saw the leak talking about Zasalamel potentially being DLC, I thought for sure they are going with a reveal at the end of the story, showing Zasalamel was behind all of the events that happened during it, but I guess now that he's a base roster character, he will likely be a major component in the story, just like how he was in 3, which is good, I'm still very perplexed about Cervantes DLC talk though, I didn't see that coming for a second, I thought for sure he's going to be a base roster character.

Zas also had the misfortune of his absence in the previous game. I only get Cervantes missing because of him being dead at the time of the story. But it’s still a disappointment.
In this time period hes dead? good so may be he'll be a "Davy Jonesish" type dreaded pirate id freakn loose it. I want him extremely bad ass!

Wonder whenever we are going to see something or hear more about CAS? That's always been something I've really loved to do in SC games, I'm pretty sure It was confirmed there would be Cas in this game, right?

Really hope it's improved a lot over SCV's, instead of 50 slots like 100 now, and maybe like more sliders like full facial feature sliders and stuff now.

Okubo talked about CAS briefly yeah, saying to keeping watching for it or something. I feel like it'll probably be a late-developed thing though, since it's just extra non-critical art assets and they need to have all the other character fully finished beforehand due to being able to customise existing characters.

Looking back at the previous few games, they usually don't show off CAS until around the last month before release.

You say this, yet if we consider SCV to be an incomplete game, CaS was probably the most complete part of it.

I played a couple of OP fighting games including Grand Adventure. It's really not hard to implement a pre-timeskip moveset. I also will never understand A.) The vehement condemnation of anime and B.) How anyone can possibly suggest which direction is right or wrong considering we coyld have not had this game. This series could have been left for dead. It's already far beyond all previous titles.

I don't hate anime on its own, but I hate anime crossovers in non-anime games because they feel gimmicky and more like a blatant grasp for more fans rather than something more cohesive. Anime characters are generally over the top, flashy, edgy/supermacho/hyperactive and while that's fine in an actual anime, it doesn't fit the mood of Soulcalibur. It's the same as the Star Wars characters in SCIV, they just didn't fit in the game and I hated it lol.

I think people have a right to suggest what's good and bad practice for the franchise considering the last 3 SC games (I'm counting LS as a separate entry here) have struck a bad nerve with fans for very different reasons in each entry. Even when something is improved between games, ie the bad CAS of SCIV was improved greatly by SCV, but SCV cut down and replaced the amazing cast of SCIV, and neglected amazing game and story modes from SC1-3, and then LS re-added fan favourite characters but also added a widely hated lootbox mechanic, and no multiplayer modes. It's like a cycle, so I think it's fair for people to at least voice their concerns, if not directly send them to the brand new producer of the game.

Literally everything in this new game is flashy and over the top.

The guests have all been a grasp, if you think about it.

I'm not understanding why a cashgrab ftp like LS would even be mentioned. It's not a real game.

What is the mood? It doesn't take much to make an excuse as to why a specific guest showed up in the SC universe.

There's also more overt fantasy elements than before.

I really don't care who the guest is but the reasonings are pretty flimsy.

I can say with a fair amount of confidence that a lot of folks didn't even look up the character to think about how it would translate. They just stopped at anime as a buzzword.

Anything is anime if you dislike it enough. Folks said Grøh was anime-like.

SC6 is flashy and over the top, but it's not the likes of, say, DragonBall flashy and over the top (save for maybe Kilik's Soul Charge and super but lots of people here complained about how anime-esque that was anyway).

Most guests have been a grasp, I already talked about not liking the Star Wars guests, but SCV's Ezio was a good shout and he fit the tone of the game, Kratos was also a good shout, Heihachi also fit the tone of the game despite being a modern era character.

Lost Swords is definitely a real game unless I was living a nightmare for the entire time it was on the PS Store.

SC's story is grim and serious. Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean it's not also pretty dark; Ezio fits this because his story is also serious and dark, and whilst Heihachi is of a different era his appearance is somewhat traditional and he too is a grim character. I've yet to see a popular anime character that takes itself seriously enough that they would fit seamlessly within the SC universe.

Anime has a reputation for being over the top, hyperactive, etc, because that's what a lot of the most popular ones are. People have prejudices about anime because many animes prove those prejudices to be true. Grøh's overall design wouldn't be out of place in an anime and he's pretty edgy so I'm guessing that's why people said he was anime-like. SC has always taken inspiration from anime culture but it's always been subdued enough to not take over the tone of the game or the characters (Natsu and Xiba were definitely pushing it though).

I just don't think anime culture and SC should mesh. I don't want to play a SC game and have it be a clusterfuck of modernisms, over the top/illogical fights à la Kazuya and Akuma in T7's story mode, constant flashy visuals etc. I'd rather leave that to Tekken.

There is Guts if you're looking for a suitable serious animanga character. Personally my choice would have been Scorpion or Shao Kahn to match the Akuma and Geese pattern Tekken had.

Also since I've been on Monster Hunter World, and if Groh's father is going to have a more Nordic motif, I'm for some reason seeing him wield something like the switch axe for some reason because of Verge's hint of Groh's splitting swords being a leftover of weapons switching or something of the sort. Or instead something like the switch axe.

Again seeing Ivy's spot on the character select screen can be confirmation on Cervy's status or not. Taki is another closely connected character as a rival of sorts but she'd probably be opposite to Mitsurugi.

Well, especially the latest leak coming from an alleged ex-employee, which really could be just totally made up, I don't believe anything from this leak, it's probably just a bunch of guesses. I'm still going with Cervantes being in the main roster and getting Hwang/Seong Mi-na/Yun-seong as DLC until something surfaces that makes me believe otherwise. If some or all of the latest leak is actually sourced to Vergeben's main source, the one that the correct information has come from, then that would be a different case. But as-is, no, I don't believe a word of the latest leak.

Bamco is greedy and occasionally dumb, but they aren't that greedy and dumb. Cerv won't be DLC in a remake* of a game where he was a sub-boss. That would be like a SFII remake having Sagat as DLC, or a Tekken 3 remake with Ogre as DLC.

*Yes I know it's not a true remake but the point still stands.
