It's also a king whose experience may be of great service to the whole situation (Nightmare posing as an emperor soldier's just to increase the number of malfested minions and souls).

I agree with this 100% Hilde's Father is without a doubt the new Nightmare (although not sure if that makes this Nightmare a New or Old character).
In the bio for Hilde we are never told exactly when the father escaped nor when the kingdom fell. All we are told is that these events did happen. If the SC team is taking a character from Dumas novel then I also find it curious that this game takes place 17 years after Hilde's father was imprisoned. If this is mimicking events from the Count of Monte Cristo then Hilde's father was probably imprisoned for 7 years (Edmond Dantes was imprisoned seven years before escaping) and then spent the next ten years plotting revenge (which is how long the Count of Monte Cristo plotted revenge...which curiously enough = 17 years. Coincidence? I think not.
One also then has to take in account of the theme song for this new Nightmare which is Pavor Nocturnus which essentially translates to Night Terror. Night terror besides being a boss in SC III is also the name for a sleeping disorder which can cause people to feel deep horror or fear and can cause people to begin walking around and acting violent in response sometimes returning to basic primitive instincts. "some adult night terror sufferers have many of the characteristics of depressed individuals including inhibition of aggression, self-directed anger, passivity, anxiety, impaired memory, and the ability to ignore pain. When a night terror happens it is typical that person can wake themselves up screaming, kicking, and often can not make out what they are saying. Often the person can even run out of the house (more common among adults) which can then lead to violent actions." I believe that it was night terror that Hilde's father was likely afflicted by and most people during this time and history shows that people afflicted with this disorder were often considered insane and were locked up for harboring the devil or demons or something of a similar nature....this seems to be similar to what happened to Hilde's Father as the people of this time would immediately assume some sort of insanity had befallen the father due to this sleeping disorder caused by the Evil Seed. Or I could be over-analyzing and giving Namco way too much credit in thinking they could actually come up with something like this.
Either way I do believe the New Nightmare is the Count of Monte Cristo err...Hilde's Father and that we will see this in due time. Whether or not my theories are right or wrong I have very little doubt that Hilde's Father is the new Nightmare.

I agree Hilde's father being Nightmare would add a lot more to the story than if it was some random new guy.
In Pat's bio it says Sophitia was killed by a malfested person. What if that person was Hilde's father who goes on to become Nightmare? Pat has a reason to fight Nightmare (which is what is depicted on the boxart) because he murdered his mother but conflict arises with Hilde because even if she feels sorry for Pat she's not going to let him kill her father. She'd probably try to look for a way to rescue her father with the help of Siegfried since he knows first hand what it's like to be Nightmare.

Sophitia's body is probably used as one of the commanders for the SE army. So he'd probably have to fight his "mother". Or her body anyway. Her spirit is within her sword and shield. Good thing Pyrrha has those.

Pyrrha is mentioned to be a malfested by Patroklos. I can't help but think that if Sophitia's spirit is within her sword and shield that this is not a good thing. The evil laughing from Sophitia in the trailer does not help this...if anything I think Sophitia died in body and now has a corrupt/malfested soul in the weapons given to Pyrrha.
One does have to ask where Pyrrha got this sword and shield and one should realize that whomever killed Sophitia probably gave her these weapons...if anything I think it would be Tira that killed Sophitia as she seems to be the only one connected to both Sophitia and Pyrrha besides Cassandra.
In this way we can come to a conclusion that either Cassandra or Tira was most likely to kill Sophitia or give Pyrrha the sword and shield. Considering the evil sophitia voice in the trailer (possibly coming from the weapon) I would say Tira is the most likely but what a twist it would be if Cassandra killed her.
or I could be completely wrong...gah I guess we will know some more about plot in the near future.

Since we can see blonde hair on the Nightmare artwork (that curiously reminds me Patroklos), Rothion could be a suitable candidate for the host. He's said to have died of illness sure but still that blonde hair....

Read the previous posts here. Some of us agreed on the theory that it could be Hilde's father. It's a strong theory I tell you!
I honestly believed that the trailers begining was a vision/voice projected by SE and Patroklos interupted it. It intentionally sounded like Sophitia. Sorta like Voldo's ending. It was to get Pyrrha to listen to it. xD

Nightmare gave the monk a bored glance and snapped his fingers. "Tira. Where's Zasalamel?"
"Oh ZASSY! NIGHTY NEEDS YOU!" hollered Tira.
Zasalamel walked out with a book and said, "You know I'll betray you after this right?"
"Whatever. I can handle you after you get rid of these pests," replied Nightmare.
Shrugging, Zasalamel made an illusion of Xianglian.
"Sister?" said a horrified Kilik.
Result: Kilk was defeated.
Patroklos held out his sword and shouted, "I will show you the way of justice!"
"Oh shut up. Zasalamel!" shouted Nightmare.
Zasalamel made an illusion of Sophitia.
"Mother?" said a shocked Patroklos.
Result:Pat was also defeated.
Siegfried readied his battle stance and said, "Let's do this! My unforgiveable past!"
"Zasa-"
"I got it," replied Zasalamel, summoning Siggy's dead fater. "If you want to beat Nightmare, you have to fight your father first."
"NO!!!!!" cried Siegfried, dropping his sword in defeat.

Ok! New characters! Yoshimitsu, Cervantes, Aeon, and Xiba. Now, I honestly can't say much for Yoshi cause his appearence hasn't changed dramatically like Cervantes. Cervantes now has purple chest hair. He's def. a pimp and no longer a pirate. Lizardman, is still a lizard. But, hes being refered to as Aeon. His real name. And Xiba, I honestly think could be Kiliks pupil. If they want to tie the two together. Any speculation on this and what their motives are? Who do you think Xiba would tie into if he's not a completly new person from some unknown part of the world?

Cervantes is a seaman still, so he may be a pirate. He has a new body and has broken SE Curse.
Lizardman/Aeon was changed by an oracle and has learned the new style thanks to the Aeris Predators
Xiba lives in the mountains of Ling Sheng Su temple, travels with Natsu, Leixia and Maxi.
Yoshi is the foster son of old Yoshi. He has acquired all of his foster parent's abilities directly.
BTW, on that Famitsu link there are story mode cutscenes and general screens. Looks nice. Works by chapters, which are unlocked. They can be replayed.
