Hilde, Rock, and Yun-seong were referenced, if not outright name dropped in SCVI, so I think there’s merit to them being added to the game for a second season pass.

Li Long... I know his lover is Chie from Taki’s clan, but considering her Soul Chronicle and its emphasis on her clan, they easily could have slipped in bread crumbs regarding him but they didn’t.

STAR to either Viola or Algol: Both have preexisting reusable models and don't have to be unclonified moveset-wise. However, Algol's not that popular, Viola on the other hand had Amy's face in SCV, so I have no idea how they'd solve that issue with Amy being confirmed...They could either re-conceptualize the whole character or even give Viola's orb to Algol, just to retain the moveset (which would be the cheapest way to do it, I guess). That one's a tough call, can't really say...I think that Yun-Seong as STAR is rather unlikely as that would mean that they'd have to develop one more completely new, unclonified moveset (but would have to let other people down who could't switch to a similar character like Yun fans could to Hwang).
IMO these would be the most cost-efficient solutions to the puzzle.
If we're assuming it's Viola and Algol, and one of them gets in based on popularity, it would be Viola. https://soulcalibur.fandom.com/wiki/Soulcalibur_Series_Character_Popularity_Poll
I think it would be pretty easy for them to re-conceptualize Viola into being a seperate character. They can just take her alternate costume, maybe alter it a bit if they want, and then change her height and face (Hey, if people can mod faces in SCV by hex editing, there's no reason PS can't do it.)

While I would agree with the board for Stone, Reptile, Snow and Star (assuming the consensus is Algol), I'm still not sold on Yell and Yellow. While Yellow could have ties to Hwang by virtue of his theme's name, I'm fairly certain Yell would be a newcomer or a guest character whose voice have magical power.

Otherwise, guess we're better off waiting for the dev's input.

As much as I want all of the returning characters to be vets, there's definitely going to be a guest among the second season pass, and Yell is the obvious candidate.

If Algol is going to return they better damn well find a way to make his style one that's CaSable this time. I mean even the guests are now. I'm not willing to pay for half a character.

I don't think any of the current code names are referring to a guest, for two reasons:
  1. A guest might not be in the works yet. If these 6 new characters entered development very recently, then there's a possibility that Project Soul (or Namco, idk who makes these decisions) hasn't decided on who they want as a guest for S2. Alternatively, they may have found a character they want but are still in negotiation with the company that owns them. Either way, PS would not have started development on them yet.
  2. Even if PS has started development on the new guest, they're most likely keeping a really tight hold on information about it, which is why the character is not listed in the files. 2B was kept extremely top-secret, so it'll probably be the same for Guest #3. Personally, I'm leaning more towards this theory.
And of course, there's always that slim chance that there's no guest in Season 2, but that doesn't seem likely with how much Namco loves guest characters and the sales that they generate.

I can’t see anymore quest being dropped into the game at this point.

And I do believe they are taking popularity into consideration. Which is why Lizardman May have never been finished at all. Tira became DLC. And the time they took to put so many references to the characters throughout Libra and chronicle. I’m willing to bet that “Yell” is Hilde. Dampierre would be a bust because no one bought him. You simply had to use a hex edit tool and substitute him into the game. So that would not only be an unpopular choice it’s a poor market decision. Hilde actions are all cries, and sometimes annoying. Which is why you could think the dev team nicknaming her that if you would have to continuously listen to it being played over and over, and someone finally in a outburst remarks, “why is she always yelling!?”
I would like Viola more than Algol. I just want Algol to be Azwels opposite. Yet, I have a OC CaS that doesn’t have her original soul because of her absence. But what if it is Yun?

Excluding any notion of a guest, we have to think broader as it was mentioned what a character would provide to the story. The events of Soul Blade are summarized and glossed over. And the possiblility for more replay of game modes comes with original character returns and a newer version of the core game. There would be updated and expanded chronicles, and updated missions in Libra. New trophies to gain and new art that would make you play the game again. PS isn’t just catering to the online versus community but the Soul Calibur fan base as a whole. So when the updated version of the game comes out it cannot simply be “now with more characters.” But a new expansive experience for the first time buyer that has seen all the attention to the game.

  1. 2B was acquired January of last year, so they had the rights to her for a long while before her full development and release. I feel like this is a similar situation.
  2. Yell is just vague enough to be a lot of different characters. No one is certain of anything yet. Smash also had a leak of potential third party guest code names recently, so this is hardly uncommon.

While I'd rather 2B be the last guess, if there's a second season pass, there has to be a guest to accompany it. The Soul Calibur fandom just isn't profitable enough on its own. Many casuals would purchase the season pass based on one familiar face alone.

I forgot about 2B being acquired in January last year. I guess that throws my first theory out the window lol
But yeah, I agree with you on the last bit of your post. I don't want another guest, but it's inevitable at this point.

I don’t believe this notion. Because every one of these games has been sold as, “the last game.” In some kind of way to scare us into buying it. And there is less popular and profitable games still in circulation to this day.

Sure, there are plenty of people who are fond of the series to some extent, but how many hardcore fans are there who know who Li Long is, or want every single fighter from the past to return?

I've seen forums dedicated solely to future guest fighters, and parts of the fandom that think the next two season pass characters are guaranteed to be guests.

They're relevant enough to get a slot in the next season pass.

That’s because ever since SC3 the guest character thing became a craze and has endless possibilities because this is a well made 3D fighter that uses weapons. Sure not all hardcore fans know of the complete past to the series they play. But they became a fan at some point of the entries and may not have the ability to play or the will to go read up. I think Soul Calibur will forever have to be Tekken’s Pippen to it’s Jordan. We just have the accept that and know that Bamco won’t ever disrespect what Tekken did for it and Soul is more or equally popular IF it ever achieves that right.

I think some of us here might be a bit too extreme on the anti-guest sentiment. Not all Soulcalibur fans dislike guests. Some of us play other games and would like to see them. Honestly it should be fine provided the guest actually fits and makes sense.... If they select more ridiculous, modern era garbage then no, i suppose not.

Anyway guests do provide an advantage in that they are a surprise. We know what to expect mostly from returning characters. Guests are a completely new moveset not seen before. I also see people going on about characters who can return in future games but i dont think that is such a problem. There are already too many characters as it is. I think it can be an advantage to have new characters we already know will not be coming back. Characters like Groh and Azwell just eliminates someone else in the next game.

Everyone appears to be reaching very far into the "Star" character so I'm about to thrown down some stupid and silly ideas but bear with me: What if "Star" is actually Altair from Assassin's Creed who uses Ezio's moveset from SoulCalibur V since Altair is a name of a star lol. "Star" could also be M.Bison from Street Fighter who is also known as Vega in Japan in which the name is also that of a star. If we are really reaching here, Antares was the name of the theme of Devil Jin in both Tekken 5 and SoulCalibur V so what if "Star" is actually Devil Jin as a fully fleshed out character? Navi was also a character in The Legend of Zelda who navigated for Link and its name is also a star so it could be a reference to Link coming back. Last but not least, the developers at Bandai Namco are big fans of the Star Wars franchise so we could be seeing a return of a Star Wars character from SoulCalibur IV or a completely new Star Wars character!

Shitposting and conspiracy theories aside, here are my actual guess for who the characters are:
Code:
DLC4 STONE ROCK
DLC5 YELL HILDE
DLC6 STAR VIOLA
DLC7 SNOW SETSUKA
DLC8 REPTILE AEON
DLC9 YELLOW HWANG
Stone is likely Rock and can be reworked into something new but it could also be Bangoo instead using a giant mace. Hilde has to be in one of these since she is a popular and requested character with a very unique moveset so it makes sense to put her at Yell. Setsuka is another very popular character and just like how the name Rock is related to the name Stone, the name Setsuka is related to Snow. Lizards are Reptiles and it makes sense for Lizardman or Aeon to be Reptile. And just like the case with Setsuka and Rock, Yellow is related to the name of Hwang whose theme in Soul Edge is called Yellow Sands. Now Star on the other hand, I'm putting Viola in here simply because she ranked very high on the official character poll (higher than staples such as Maxi and Astaroth) and her moveset is very unique. Viola could be travelling back in time, could be treated as a guest character, could be ageless like Zasalamel, or could be a different Viola than the character we know in SoulCalibur V much like how Astaroth II and Yoshimitsu II was in that game. Then again, Star could also be a guest character like my stupid conspiracy above.

If I was biased though, I would rather have Yun-seong be one of either Yell or Star so that I can feel comfortable knowing that Hwang will return with his own original moveset closer to Assassin from SoulCalibur II than having a reworked moveset of Yun-Seong.

I don't think STAR is Viola, simply because the code-names appear to be based on the literal meanings of previous characters' names rather than their powers or symbolism. They could always bring Viola's fighting style back with a different character, but I can't see that happening either. (Side note, I think it would be cool if they gave Viola's style to an actual Romani character, but on the other hand, I would never trust Namco to not portray such a character in really bad ways.)

We better not get any console-exclusive characters. It's a horrible idea for many, many reasons.

I can draw another parallel, if what @Sectus said before was also true, that these characters will be released in pairs, then it would make sense for Yell to be Li Long and Star to be Yun-seong, because:

Rock and Li Long (forgotten relics of the past whose styles were usurped)
Yun-seong and Setsuka (tertiary characters related to previous characters)
Aeon and Hwang (characters who are seen in-game and yet don't fight, conspicuously)

I know that Aeon has the one battle in Libra of Soul where it's actually him instead of a random Lizardman, but I really see that as a fluke, more than anything else. Aeon and Hwang feel like they were cut from the main roster of SoulCalibur VI meant to be included more than any other characters. Hwang could have easily been in, like Han-myeong, fighting with Mitsurugi's style, or even with Xianghua's style, but he wasn't seen in combat at all.
