I don't think that betting on anything western is a good idea.
It's more costly (getting Illidan or Diablo would be less expensive than something like GoT character, but still expensive AF, stay realistic - this is not Tekken, where Bamco are just ready to throw money at it no questions) and can cause a lot of meddling with rights.

They aren't more significant than Vader and Yoda.

Illidan and Diablo are going to be A LOT more expensive than Jon Snow to my knowledge. Blizzard is very VERY protective of their intellectual properties and if they do somehow make it in, it would be very doubtful to see their moveset be used in character creation. I would have really liked to see Arthas or even Genji in the game but it's very doubtful. There's a bigger chance of getting Jon Snow than them.

If we're going to be economical about things then we would have to look at companies Bandai Namco has made deals with in the past. Companies like Capcom, Sega, Square Enix, and SNK would be easy for Namco to make deals. CD Projekt worked out well because they are a game first company rather than corporate first which is why a lot of gamers have respect for them.

Because Bandai Namco published Dark Souls, I'm inclined to believe that they could probably work with FromSoftware to get Sekiro from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice as a way to promote both games. That game is looking to be one of the most anticipated games of 2019.

It's still not impossible that we might see a Tales of Vesperia character, to promote the Definitive Edition. There are a few SoulCalibur references in Tales of Vesperia, like Rita getting Ivy Blade as one of her weapons and Yuri getting a DLC costume of Mitsurugi. I'd say the style would be too clashing, but Angol Fear made it in to SoulCalibur IV, so it wouldn't be impossible to have something that's "too anime" in style, necessarily. I'd be more than okay with seeing Judith make an appearance to fill our gap of having a "true spear user", since we don't really need another katana user in Yuri. Rita might be interesting, too, with her scrolls and magical attacks. I dunno, just a thought.

I think Noctis unfortunately has a good shot.

Someone from League of Legends might be good.

Monster HUnter is popular in Japan but that might end up being too open-ended.

It could be from a popular anime as well.

Since it already has that attention, wouldn't it make a bit more sense for them to try and milk the Dark Souls remaster for everything that is worth instead of Sekiro?

As good as a Tales character might sound, the animesque art style will only look as good in 3D and alongside the realistic character models of the cast as Angol Fear did in SCIV. I’d welcome it, but it’d look so wonky compared to everyone else if you consider that they may have a Soul Chronicle (like Geralt), and that they may have to interact with other characters.

"It could be from a popular anime"
no, turning anime into a realistic style has never worked and anyone who isn't a fan would absolutely hate the way the anime character looks in game. the only way this could work is if you took from an anime that already used a realistic style... and those don't exist anymore...

Current SC won't have such money (remember - Bamco wanted to kill SC until Okubo stepped in). Besides it's not worth it, having characcters that won't apsolutely demolish your (already pretty humble) budged is much smarter (and better for actual players, who would've get 3-4 classic characters for such costs instead or some new maps, more cas pieces, etc).

Sekiro is more relevant now. So it would be more hype for both sides.

But i thought the whole point is "Oh i can play as Geralt? Holy fuck i must go buy this game!"
Even though Sekiro has all the hype, the character itself doesnt yet have a fanbase because people have not yet had the opportunity to even play him.

DS doesn't really have such characters either, as you play custom one and most characters could remain barely known besides name unless you study your lore.

Dunno if it's related to "big guests ala SW ones" talk too, but you need to consider how expensive the character would be to how much people would actually consider buying your game off one character alone. Too expensive characters like those ones are nearly destined to get negative gains, unless you're already big enough to be widely known.

Oscar, or "The Elite Knight Armor and Crest Shield", is more or less the poster child of Dark Souls, if we're talking playable character. But adding a guest who uses Sword & Shield style is just going to be adding salt in the wound for people who wanted Cassandra, so I doubt that will happen.

Nice thing about Dark Souls bosses, in most cases their weapons are available and even clothing. So in a way they are kinda playable. Bosses are also very memorable to players even if they dont pay attention to lore because of repeated deaths.

One in particular comes to mind....

Seeing as Groh exists, not sure they really care about all that.

disagreeing=/=triggered

It's amazing how much people project their own interpretation of text with no emotional inflection onto someone else.

You know what is getting triggered?

SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU FUCKING CUCK! I'M TIRED OF KNOW IT ALL DUMB FUCKS ON THE INTERENT WHO THINK THEY CAN "READ" INTENT FROM AN INNOCUOUS SET OF WORDS WHEN NO ACTUAL INFLECTION WAS USED "LOL SO TRIGGERED BRO, SALT MUCH, GET MAD XDDDDDDDDDDD" FUCK YOU AND YOUR SELF IMPOSED IDEA OF WHAT YOU "THOUGHT" MY REPLY WAS MEANT TO CONVEY!

That's getting triggered.

Now ask yourself, was I triggered by posting that wall of caps? Do you know for sure i'm not being facetious? Do you know for sure I didn't reply to you to initiate a particular response in the first place? Do you know I'm not posting this right now to get a particular response out of you? Do you think I'm writing this as a cover for the fact that I'm triggered? Will your canned response be that I'm salty or mad? I'm curious to see how you infer this.

well that's the thing, groh is "realistic" something like Deku from my hero isn't, it was specifically "popular anime" which all have the very simplistic art style that just doesn't work in 3D

it's because you said it never worked... except it has!
