Story Mode, Additional SCV Images from Famitsu

Some people may have missed this, but along with today's announcement of the four newest characters to be added to the Soulcalibur V roster, Famitsu also released details and images from the game's story mode. Also included is the first images of Patroklos wielding Soul Calibur, Tira handing Pyrrha her mother's weapon, and images from various cutscenes.

If you can read Japanese or use Google Translate, you can go to Famitsu's website to read the details on Soulcalibur V's story mode.

Because hilde is now a character of soul calibur regardless of validity.

Good point, the sword does bad things to good people. Let's hope Pyrrah won't get controlled only to break free and prattle on about redemption like Sieg did.

:$ why did so many people 'like' these comments? Siegfried certainly was evil! He ran with a band of theives and killed people! He was infatuated with his own sense of self-righteousness.

I suspect that Tira will manipulate Pyrrha into wielding SE. Anyways, what does Nightmare now wield if not SE?

 

As much as it appeals to me that Raphael would be more central if he were the new Nightmare (lol), I really hope he's not. I like him being his own thing, the deranged, pompous, fencing vampire.

Though, it is true that Raph had smoke coming out of his boots in the drawing. It's possible that the Raph they revealed is a specter-like presence (like Raph's soul or something) and that the new Nightmare is Raphael's body. I hope not, though. That would be really convoluted.

In any case, I'm glad they're putting more effort into the story. Can't wait for it's release.

Because she's awesome, has a very unique fighting style, and the sickest design in the whole game. Besides, you don't just make a new character and focus the game on it to just drop it right away.

 

I like Hilde a lot, I don't play her but she's the kind of characters I admire ! : she's a Princess, but very strong mind with good values like honor. She takes her responsabilities, she doesn't fear to take weapons and fight for her kingdom !

Also, Namco included her in the game to show the players that they are aware of their mistakes from SC4, and that they'll make a balanced game. So they totally relooked Hilde's gameplay and made everything to prevent Doom combo ! :)

Hilde is one of my favorite characters design/art wise. Never played her though. I think she looks better without the helmet personally but considering what we've heard of characters and their profiles I expect her to have some role in the story as well. I applaud Namco for taking a character that they had problems with and fixing her.

We don't really know. I think that's why they want us to play the story mode...

I think because of the language barrier, it's saying that the two soul swords are of polar opposites. And correct me if you understand differently, but it seems like Siegfried destroyed the Soul Edge and Nightmare, but a rift was created, because of the clash with Soulcalibur. And things were thrown into an alternate reality (the "negative")where the good guys were persecuted as being the bad guys. So Patroklos who wants justice and Zwei and Siegfried are standing ground on their beliefs even though they are hunted.

and yet again we go back to the whole situation of Why does Tira have Sophie's sword? She would not give it up even if she were malfested...this just gives more credence to the belief that Tira killed her and took it from her. I can see no other reason for Tira having Sophitia's sword aside from her being involved in her murder/death.

unless the sword Tira gives Pyrrha is not actually her mother's sword and is actually Soul Edge in disguise. This would explain why Pyrrha hears her mother's voice/spirit from the sword...it it merely Soul Edge pretending to be her mother (similar to how Soul Edge pretends to be Vercci and other people).

I totally was going here for a long time. The Soul Edge is in Pyrrha's hands and compels her to do thing to which she replies "NO!" but is too weak to oppose. And if you further want to discuss dialogue, maybe Pat says "sorry mother" because he must cause harm to his sister. Or Pat knows that he must find his sister and educate her about everything, but must digress to do something more impending. Maybe he says that just cause its the phrase he utters as you lose the battle and he fails to keep his promise to his mother.

Well I do not expect a fighting game to have a decent story to begin with, much less soul calibur. You have played soul calibur before, you know there will be many cheese tastic moments XD.

You got that right! In SC2 alone, it said that Xianghua destroyed the Soul Edge at the end of SC1. That's why there are fragments all over the place in the intro. But then Nightmare "somehow" survived and came back and he was Siegfried until he was totally overwhelmed once again by Soul Edge. They aren't even trying. Well, maybe now they are.

I don't think so, Raphael can be Nightmare. And even if it's the same person, why can't he have two different slots ? It's the same thing than Ryu and Evil Ryu in SSFIV AE. You can play both, it's the same person but they are different at same time : one is normal and the other is dark, and they have different fight styles.

As I said, why do Raphael and Nightmare have so much in common ? Same size, same blond hair, same eyes, and Nightmare pretended to be a noble to the Emperor. I don't think it's impossible.

I don't understand. I see a huge bunch of red hair on Nightmare; not blonde. For 17 years worth, they could write in some one we never heard of. A lot of people can be the same size and both be quick with a weapon. That's a large leap IMO.

It helps when they have a different team working on the story. I expect this time around for them to have great exposition (what cc2 excels at). But a good story over all? We will see, I am just not holding my breath XD.

 

Hmmm...So if they're doin' their story mode along the lines of how Netherrealms did MK's, I believe we'll see a bunch of different chapters, and play as a different character for every chapter. Then the Arcade Mode is where they'll be personal, non-canon endins' for every character. Personally I think this is a great idea because this'll organize the plot for games to come, and we won't have to figure out which endin's are canon, and which aren't.

About the "Raph=Nightmare" theory, I really can't see this bein' true. I mean, I always thought Raph was always on the evil side from the jump. He has always wanted the SE ever since his inclusion in SCII. Also, I think he's too strong willed for the SE to take over and control him. I think if he ever got a hold of it, He would still be sane and the SE would take a form to the weapon of his choice [Rapier] like it did with Cervy when he wielded it, not the other way around. Finally, there's a big difference between SCIII-IV Nightmare and SCV Nightmare, and that is the SCV one has a person inside of it. And seein' that both Raph and this person-full Nightmare are in the same game, separated from each other, and with completely different styles, I think it's say to assume that they're not the same person, but hey...I've been pretty wrong in my beliefs before [*cough-Sophiemaretheory-cough*]. I actually think that the person inside Nightmare could be Kilik, but I also think it could be a completely new character, altogether. We'll se once the game's released, I guess....

I do not take any of that stuff seriously. Just because the possibility of a relationship is present, it does not make it valid in my opinion. But then again we are talking about soul cal. XD

*shrug* Like I said, she is introduced, she is owned by project soul, she is a member till the end. Even if they choose not to use her in following games, she is still a member.

But after a second look:

-So is Raphael a Ghost?
-But wait, I thought Hilde's father was Nightmare
-Is the "Ghost" Raphael looking for Amy
-But Viola is Amy right
-What does Hilde have anything to do with the game if her father isn't Nightmare?
-Why are Zwei and Pat looking like allies then?
-Zwei is on the evil side and Pat is on the good.
-So Pyhrra holds SE and Pat holds SC
-But wait, Pyhrra isn't evil, so screams "No!!" while she fights
