Super Smash Bros Wii U/Nintendo 3DS

I do not want to troll just asking: Why are there so many fire emblem characters? Is that series so popular (in japan maybe)?

Great to see that Falcon is back, my brother mained him in melee and we had great matches against each other. Only Ness is missing from the original 12 but i think he'll be confirmed soon.

Fire Emblem Awakening is the best selling Fire Emblem is a very long time.

The series was always popular in Japan. Not to a crazy degree, mind (especially is more recent years), but during the heyday of the SNES era, it was up there along with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. As later games became more difficult (and shorter!), the series faded from view. It didn't help that during the N64 days, there was no Fire Emblem released, and the series has had long dry spells (6+ years).

Many of Nintendo's biggest franchises always sell better in the US than in Japan, but Fire Emblem is one of those games that's still popular with Japanese gamers. In the US, Fire Emblem's main audience comes from Smash, though not every Smash player plays Fire Emblem.

how did you know palutena would be an obvious playable character?

Because of Pit's inclusion in Brawl and Uprising's revival of the franchise. Plus the history of Smash has always expansions in the roster in later sequels. Link got Zelda and Ganon and Sheik. Kirby picked up Meta Knight and King Dedede. Ness saw Lucas, and Pokemon saw Trainer, Lucario and others.

It's true that not every franchise sees expansion (at least directly), but Kid Icarus was one that saw overwhelmingly positive response and it was a game Sakurai directly worked on. It made sense that an addition to the roster was inevitable, and Palutena, the xo-star of Uprising made her the obvious pick.

Personally, I'd like another addition, whether it be Dark Pit, Medusa or even Hades, Pyron or Viridi would cool. I'm not expecting to see a third Icarus character, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one that hidden in the game and never got any media attention (ala Wolf from Brawl).

I'm going to leave this here and maybe you guys will get the reference. It's pretty long and pretty funny too

Seems like a good hint, but... who could they add for Metroid considering Ridley is already hinted at in that same trailer as a boss character?

As for Zelda, Ganondorf has yet to surface (he's never been officially revealed in prior games, either), but I suspect he could be replaced with Demise. Impa might be fun too.

Anyway...

Robin is looking to be a very interesting type of character. It seems his abilities are based on his Tomes and the weapon he's wielding at any given time. According to a recent picture of the day, Robin pulls out the Levin sword whenever he does a Smash attack, and can even perform Smash attacks (Meteor attacks?) in the air. But like his tomes, the Levin sword will wear break and it will take some time to regenerate.

Speaking of his tomes, rather than him having four different tomes for each spell, it looks like all his tomes can be charged similar to Samus's, Lucario's, Marth's and Ike's neutral B. At max charge, the tomes will fire off their most powerful spell, but it looks like one of the tomes (the dark tome) is actually a throw and not a special attack. Another thing to look at - much like the sword Robin wields - his the tome he's currently equipped with changes his basic combo attacks. If he's equipped with a Wind tome, he finishes off his basic combo with a wind spell, and with a thunder tome, a thunder spell. So much like his function in Fire Emblem: Awakening, Robin's a very flexible character. And as mentioned in the character trailer, he can only use his tomes a certain amount of times before it expires, this pretty much means that he won't be able to use certain special attacks or charged attacks for a while. Robin kinda reminds me of a gunslinger character who needs to reload after pulling off a number of attacks, and I'm guessing this was sort of the idea for Robin's gameplay.

Overall he looks like he might be a tricky mage type character, but one that might be a tad bit more effective than previous mage types like Zelda. I wonder if he, Zelda and Palutena will bear some similarities with each other. Could Robin be the light-weight mage compared to Zelda and Palutena's middle and heavy-weight gameplay?

EDIT: Oh I should probably mention my predictions for Robin's special attack placement.

Neutral: Thunder
Side: Fire
Up: Wind (note that Robin gains height when he casts a wind spell)
Down: Nosferatu (Fun Fact: Robin can't actually cast dark magic while he's a Tactician or Grandmaster, in Fire Emblem Awakening).

I'd rather have Impa.
Or better yet, Wind Waker Ganon, since he uses 2 swords so he'd fight completly different than normal Ganon.

FYI, I don't really believe that Dark Pit will be revealed at SDCC. After all, previous trailers showing off two newcomers usually show gameplay with both of them. See Greninja and Charizard, Robin and Lucina. If they were really interested in bringing Dark Pit in as a newcomer, they would've had a trailer him the moment he appeared next to Palutena.

As they didn't, I don't think Dark Pit will be playable.

But also, his appears does foreshadow something, if he is playable, why didn't he get a trailer right then and there?
