The Weight Loss Thread

Im going to give you some advice (even though your probably already doing what im going to say) because I have been doing this for the last 4 years.

Oh and the way to lose fat is like lobo said, eat every 4 hours to keep your metabolism high, Virtually eat no sweets or candy, max out at 40-50 grams of fat a day, and the most most important part, is to drink at least 1.5 gallons of water a day. This is essential, only drink water. Drink water all the time with everything.

Your workouts have to be a combination both lifting and cardio. I highly suggest the stairs machine if your gym has one; it will burn fat much faster than running will, though it does get a little repetitive and boring.

If you do all this you will lose fat but gain muscle instead, so you will not be loosing all that total weight you want to, but your weight lose in terms of fat will be much higher.

Oh and its impossible to burn muscle in only ten minutes. I am a very hard gainer, because my metabolism is faster than anyone I know, but that means that even if I eat too much sometimes It will go into refueling the calories I burned in my workout and never my waist, and I can run for 40 mins and not lose muscle as long as I lift that day.

I feel what you're saying but my du', on my diet it's not possible to lose 14 lbs. every two weeks. (I don't know if you were exaggerating to make a point or not.) Only the first two weeks does that take place and that's because it's doing a cleanse. After that point, it breaks down to really apprx. 2-3 lbs. a week which is healthy (and that's with exercise.)

It's a possibility that my immune system could be affected—true—but that's also possible after any new diet you're putting your body through. With this regimen I don't go hungry, it's easy to follow, I know it works because I've done it once before, and I don't cut out any food groups entirely. Seems healthier than how I was eating and doing before. BTW, I take a multivitamin everyday as well.

I looked at a lot of diet and exercise plans and scoffed at most if not all of them until I came across this one. If I start to feel sick or anything I won't hesitate to stop.

Note: Running up and down the steps for 20 minutes is hard.

It was too cold (20°F outside) to be joggin' and since I have no treadmill at the moment, I opted for the stairs. That was a harder work out than I thought it'd be. I usually run, jog, and walk for 30 minutes easy. I wanted to do 10 more minutes but I thought it not too safe. Don't feel like falling down a set of stairs and killin' myself. Just thought I'd share...

Gotta do it again sometime after lunch.

Yep stairs are a solid ass workout. Sorry I filled you up with info specially since your already doing all this lol. And 3lbs a week is prime weight lose, specially for someone who (I think) is not actually too overweight.

Don't apologize. It's informative. It doesn't lose its value.

And what you mean "is not actually too overweight?" You talkin' sh*t, n*gga!? Noted...

Lol ok when you said you had to lose weight I imagined you being way bigger than you actually look in your picture. It was a compliment! haha

I'm just messin', dude. The picture was me when I was at somewhere between 140-150 lbs. That's what I wanna get back to. Posted it for my motivation and to let folks know. Last I weighed myself I was 191lbs. So I'm chunky, or as my 2nd cousin, who's 4 says, "fluffy".

i'm gonna go ahead and clean up this thread as well as the p90X thread. if you feel like trolling, maybe try doing it somewhere where people aren't trying to better themselves.

For my new years resolution imma try and go to the gym 5 days a week.
I used to do it sometime mid November, but I stopped due to work, school, and late night christmas shopping.

It's extremely hard for me to stick to a strict diet because I LOVE food (especially the kind that's bad for you) and I love to eat... My dad's a doctor and has made me a nutrition list, but it's really hard for me to stick to it. :\
But Imma try and stick with it next year for sure! I've gained some weight during the winter so I am looking into burning it off, wish me luck!

And good luck to y'all putting the work to work out after a busy day or work/school or both at the same time! It's extremely hard and you deserve a pat on the back for achieving your ideal weight!

^

Yea that stuff is crazy! some days my shedule would be class from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m to go to work 5p.m. to 11 p.m. only to wake up to going to class at 8 the morning the next day, which often led me to doing p90x until midnight and later and not going to sleep till about 3 in the morning (due to homework and all that). I'm really suprised I pulled all that off. School and work is pretty hard but stack a extreme workout schedule on top of that and it's mental murder! Lol, but it's so rewarding when you top it off.

GL with your goals guys!

Planning on gaining 10 pounds during this two week winter break (wishful thinking lol) so I can hit 154 lbs. Also need to to lose maybe a pound or two of fat that I gained during exams week. I was planning on making a "Weight gaining" thread with some pics and my workout schedule so I could get some feed back but I think i'm going to leave that for 2011 :).

No. Actually not necessarily. If a body is kept in a sedentary position, and there is no jump-start to a persons metabolism, such body could adapt to the low calorie intake and thus remain at a specific weight.

Unless you are talking about not eating which is possibly the worst thing you could do if you want to lose fat. When you don't eat for extended periods of time, your body takes note of the energy deficiency and thus stores your next meal as fat, so it is "prepared" for another period of low energy intake.

So no. its not just calories in < calories out.

Curse this amazing body!

Either way, I don't have too much to say along the lines of workout routines, but I will say that it's easier to do more monotonous workouts with a friend or two. And, other than that, try to do something you enjoy. Though it's cold out, you can go to a gym and really try to take up something like tennis, do water training, basketball, or something (something you, ideally, find fun and have been interested in). But whateva.

And don't forget to stretch and do your calisthenics!

OH! GOOD THREAD!

I my self am in the process of trying to get my body fat percentage down from 15% to at least 10%.

It's tough stuff. I finally started eating right, which can be very tedious at times. I'm still finding new fun stuff to eat but I am still kinda weak in the dinner department. Assistance?

There's this lady at my job who eats nothing but Lean Cuisines for lunch. She doesn't necessarily work out at all but I know another coworker who eats those and does work out. Seems to be getting really good results.

I was browsing through a couple of their selections at a grocery store and I noticed that some of them do have some tasty choices, and really cheap depending where you live and which store you buy them. I was thinking of starting off my diet with those + working out.
Maybe you can look into those for dinner!

But one thing I will recommend is to eat something light like a fruit or a small piece of bread to settle your stomach. I used to do that and it really worked well for me!

Good luck!

Yep, they do. I'm not a big fan of them, they have a myriad of preservatives and chemicals which I wouldn't want in my body.

Mizu how fast do you want results and how hard are you going to realistically work for them? Because how you go about it is completely different if your willing to go all out.

Hm... I don't think I need/want the results to be fast, this seems like the kind of thing that should be done at a steady pace. As far as how I work for It, I'm willing to work as hard as I can. I think I'm on the right track with the whole eating thing so far, eating right every day and giving myself one cheat day (Usually Saturday). And I go to the gym about 4 days a week (sometimes more) with every intent of finishing my routine for the day no matter how long it takes me. Thank god Anytime Fitness never closes. ^.^V
