What made you give your characters the style that they use?

i agree with the style thing, its like what i said, as for your thoughts on the trident why not have a contest to see who can make the best Poseidon from the Wrath of the Titans movie? that would be a challange

Le Bello would, but I'm not so keen on recreations. Even my "Talim" contest was based around designing a new, fitting design for her, rather then remaking something existing (concept or otherwise).

However, in saying that, 'recreate' IS a theme of the next challenge... =|;}D

If you haven't checked it out, and voted, you all should. All the entrants deserve some praise! Le Bello can self-promote himself too.

that's why i avoid the overly serious players. there are more people on the game who rather see creations then are worried about being some super unbeatable player. i even seen one of those type kicked out because he was complaining people were more worried about making chracters
That's why I only make characters or recreations that I can use efficiently. For instance my Ayane (DOA5) uses Maxi's style instead of Phyrra/Omega. Both of her versions have some twirling moves but Maxi's 5 simple looking, one turn moves where enough to warrant me choosing his style over another character I'm terrible with.

see the nice thing about Poseidon is since he doesn't have a normal design and through the ages has had multiple ones he'd be perfect. have them make an original Poseidon, you get to stick to your preference and at the same time use the trident like you wanted. and as i said it could be a fun challenge. i won't be doing it how ever i make my guys from chracters i like from other games or shows and would like to try on Soul

well each they're own.

I know. I'm just saying authenticity can be found in things other than the weapon.

Few Ex.
Johnny Cage is a prime candidate for the Devil Jin style but Maxi's cocky poses and Dragon Kick brings me closer to what I actually like about Johnny.

Dante from DMC uses more then a giant sword (Do people even know this?) so theoretically Maxi, Cervantes, Devil Jin, Viola and Asteroth could also work for him. Yet every Dante I see has either Seigfried or Nightmare's style.

agreed cage is best with maxi, as is lou, and dante, absolutely cervantes since though most of the game most people have him gun blazing AND slashing

I've been kicked from rooms for not using a custom. I would be 100% fine with custom characters if they forced the default height of the character upon your custom. Max height Viola customs are annoying, you have to fight them like it isn't Viola. Same with min height Astaroth, you'll never know his throw range...

The style of my main char was depending on her looks and her costume
sow i used as her main the Cevy style (wich i also used in SC4)

I go for the most accurate weapon-discipline available for my characters. One of my original characters (as shown on my avatar) uses ZWEI's fighting style because:
-Previous Soulcaliburs lacked a proper einhander user that didn't have a ridiculously-long sword. Katanas are out of the question, and he's a character who uses his weapon in an unorthodox manner.
-EIN serves as a symbol of what he can do in his story-setting. He has the normal-sized, one-handed sword, but he can also throw "pieces" of his inner being at his opponents at close range. To clarify, in place of his heart is a living, alien metal that's sentient all on its own (and even resembles an insect), with the power to shape-shift into whatever its avatar (body) desires. It's the brain behind the brain and EIN happens to be the closest thing to a "piece" that it can generate.
-No recognizable real-world style whatsoever, which works because my character is not even from Earth.

The rest, again, go by whatever fits closest to their weapon-discipline. Sometimes, I end up using character-styles I dislike lol

Depends

-Usually the ninjas I made automatically get Natsu/Taki's style.
-One character has Alpha Patroklos style, or more like Setsuka's since both Setsuka and the CAS character both have that geisha-esque attire.
-The rest are based on the character's nationalities

Someone else knows this? omg (though I don't see Asta--he has never had an axe OR grapple moves)

In SC4, I made a Maxi Dante (first recreation I ever actually kept--never got heavy into them until SC5). I got sick of seeing big sword Dantes in every soul calibur game, so I made a DMC4 Dante using Devil Jin's style and included Gilgamesh in his design.

No one has ever "gotten it" or commented on it, sadly. Ever. :\

However sometimes I might be inspired by an actual weapon itself. Take Xiba's trident for instance. I've been trying to find a use for that that doesn't involve Atlantean princes and kings, and I may well have done just that..

I believe Asteroth has a scythe like ax and Dante's Sparda sword turns into one if memory serves. Also I think his electric guitar from DMC 3 did too. In DMC 5 he is wielding both a scythe and something like Ivy's weapon. Of course if the real and totally awesome scythe wielder was in SCV I would replace his name with Asteroth.

I'm eager to see if someone can pull off the Lucifer weapon with Viola's style.

Most of my characters come from a story I'm creating so I just pick the style with the type of weapon they use in that story and if the type of weapon is not available then I just pick a style that can still fit them.
