Asta Matchup chart discussion

This isn't just about tournaments, but having the opportunity to play quality people off-line. Providing a list of "top" on-line players means nothing. Let me elaborate why like so many have before me....

Don't treat on-line like it's off-line. It's not the same game. It will never be. Yes, it completely changes the way the game is played. Moves that are safe become spammable. Moves that are somewhat safe become completely safe. Moves that are dangerous become somewhat safe and only lightly punishable as opposed to a massively punishable. Lows that can be blocked on reaction off-line can't be on-line, throw break attempts can't necessarily be done on reaction, mix-ups that are blockable on reaction can't be blocked on-line, etc. blah blah blah.

I suppose I came off like an elitist asshole. I apologize. Regardless, the fact still remains that on-line SCIV will never be off-line SCIV.

This thread is too quiet. Where is Saitoh? Clint from ATL? Suirad? OffBeatNinja?

Tiamat, I would like some more thoughts on the Asta vs Sieg matchup.

I fail against Sets and DK but I do surprisingly well against Voldo

Who I fail against with EVERY OTHER CHARACTER

Oh and for Sieg, my matchup with him is 5:5

It greatly depends on who's holding the controller and how well I can keep him on the ground.

If the person is great at breaking throws and blocking low I am FUCKED.

Oh, who am I kidding... it's more like 2:8. If I was fairly good it would be higher though

I meant for people at my skill level lol

Sorry but I'm not really in the mood for long matchup chat atm :)

Oh, and I'd say 6:4 for Astaroth against Siegfried :)

I feel that Asta vs Ivy is 5:5.

It basically boils down to Ivy having more tools to work with than Asta but at the cost of damage.

I almost completely agree, but I feel that the majority of the mindgames are still there online. Obviously if you're playing somebody who's spamming BB/1A all the time, it's not really a legitimate mindgame, but there are people online who generally only use tactics that would work offline anyway.

In almost all cases, my ability to beat somebody online has been consistent with my ability to beat them offline. I know that's going to be hard for a lot of people to swallow.

Would Tiamat and Saitoh elaborate on why Asta has an advantage over Sieg ? Not that I disagree, but I just want to see how you guys feel about the matchup.

Ivy vs Asta ... by the time Asta chases her down, he has to make up for the damage/SG damage done by Ivy's superior spacing game, and then chases her again ~ also, Ivy does good CH and command throw damage (iCS has insane range) to compete with Asta's damage.

Recently I played with the 7th best ranked person in standard online (PSN) and he was a Cervy

He was a pretty tricky guy and countered almost anything I did, I managed to make it to a final round bout and I almost beat him... I guess now i finaly played a good Cervy and change my rating to about 5:5

His range is way better than I thought and he knew how far away he should be from every move. He also through alot of lows and caught me with 98% of them... Im really bad at low guarding.

I don't think I ever said Asta has advantage over Sieg I was just making fun of someone for saying stepping is "overruled"

I don't have any opinion on the matchup

So yeah, we recently re-opened a match-up thread here in France, and here is what we got for Astaroth at the moment :

Amy 5:5
Cassandra 4:6
Cervantes 5:5
Hilde 3:7
Ivy 4:6
Kilik 5:5
Lizardman 5:5
Maxi 6:4
Mina 8:2
Mitsurugi 5:5
Nightmare 6:4
Raphael 6:4
Rock 7:3
Setsuka 4:6
Siegfried 5:5
Sophitia 4:6
Taki 6:4
Talim 7:3
Tira 6:4
Voldo 5:5
Xianghua 7:3
Yoshimitsu 4:6
Yunseong 6:4
Zasalamel 5:5

--

I really think Setsuka is a 3:7 match-up but others Astaroths and Setsuka players here are still not agree.
Some people think 7:3 against Xianghua is too much, but I dont think so.
I've heard from Lizardman player that it may be 6:4 for Lizardman, too ...

Let's chat about it.

I think the Mitsurugi one should be 4:6. Mitsu has good tools to close in on Asta. It is hard for an Asta to deal with Mitsu up close because of speed.

I agree with you on Setsuka being 3:7 for the same reason as above. Once she is too close there is nt much you can to stop an onslaught of attacks. JF Umbrella makes me sad :(

I'm agree about Mitsurugi but others people (basically everyone outside of me and Kingusha) dont :p

I guess that make 3 of us haha

I don't think Mitsu's speed is a problem here ...however, MST is epecially good vs Asta ... usually RLC is a superior stance vs other characters.

There is no way Asta vs Hilde is in Asta's favor. However, just how much that matchup is in Hilde's favor is debate-able.

I don't fully agree with Saitoh's list, but I can see where he is coming from for a lot of them. However, the one matchup I can't understand at all is the Asta vs Cassandra being 4:6. Can someone explain this to me ?

1) She's top 3 in the game for punishing regulary (read:100%) ducked throw with hurting bombs
2) She can use crouch throw to stop the usual asta's mixup aka bullrush/throw
3) She can basically use 236 as a poke/mixup
4) 1K is "safe" against Astaroth, and -1 on hit is frametrap against Astaroth

Basically =)
