raphael match up chart

I'm more interested in the comments that raph is one of the more flexible characters when it comes to matchups.

Things that are a staple is almost generally a weakness to anti-step, inability to RO/wakeup/wall game (so not that great against jumpers/TJ)

He can vary the amount of spacing/poking/prep pressure and try to twist the fight towards what he's best at though.

Asta's 22B had a "4" input right after it? LOL, what's that for? A pull? Damn I hate that piece of shit.....

Anyone ever RO with VE K vs a skilled opponent? The only use I've seen with VE K(don't get me wrong, he needs it) is to make your VE safe from retaliation if they can break throws well and duck VE A. Technically it's not even safe but the move properties are so wierd you generally don't get punished.

RO with VE K, yes. Against a skilled opponent, no. Anyone with a brain would take their chances with the throw at ring edge instead of ducking.

Asta's 22B~4 reduces push back and safety on block but launches opponents straight up, allowing him to use his air grab.

LAU: Asta's 44A and 3B are also superior than Rock's haha. Asta also has 4A.

I think the fact that Rock has better step is somewhat offset by the fact Asta can whiff punish for more damage.

I have a question though ... "asta has a tech step that takes %50 that already means there is a problem for raph" ... wtf does this mean ? if you're refering to 22B4 ... it only does 95 damage with the JF throw ... more if there is a wall splat.

yeah 22B4 does a ton of dmg

i mean it takes almost %50 health

and with raph being linear its a pretty big problem

yes raph is pretty flexible

he seems to have alot of good moves

although they are are all verts

Damage will always be in his favor. One of my match videos shows my 1A being stepped and Asta punishing it on reaction with 22B4. He can sacrifice some damage and anticipation 22B which on block is totally safe and on hit is still more damage than anything Raph can do.

This having been said, I think that most of the matchups are underselling some character's abilities to step / punish. It feels, to me, that most of Raph's matchups are pretty bad, though we have found ways to deal with some matchups because of how much we've played, or we are better than the people against whom we play. Just because you are about even with your friend, doesn't mean the match is 5:5.

It's true. Not to sound elitist but the only way to have the proper perspective on Raph's effectiveness is to have played against good players of all the characters at tournaments. I don't regularly play against all characters but there are match ups I'm pretty certain of and can make a case for whether it's good or bad. I remember seeing somewhere someone had Amy as a good match up and I just laughed.

With that being said, I think Yoshi should be 5/5, Sieg is good at 6/4, and X should be 5/5.

amy didnt have a good match up

the person that said that made a mistake

amy is horrible for raph almost 3:7

Amy is a horrible matchup, I have taesto from France, on the Amy matchup chart, saying Raph can handle her pretty well. He's just not getting it, I already tried to explain. He's a french player too so aren't they supposed to be good?

X, 5-5 vs Raph? WTF do you do with Raphael that makes this match even? I can't figure out how to beat a good one.

What is she doing to beat you? She doesn't get huge combos, a launcher that's punishable on block, a 3A that's no where near as good as before. Break it down and approach it. She's not a great character which automatically means it shouldn't be too bad. Guexdeth whom I've played against all the way back to when I started in SCII has always used X against me and so far in this game I don't see it as a bad match up, his other characters are Ivy and Amy which are a complete different story.

Against Amy is certainly 7:3 at best...

X I've only played against in tournaments (not much extended practice) but she feels beatable, just have to get used to blocking her crap, but I can't really talk about this matchup.

Hudathan....

I eat her 44B CONSTANTLY, if I don't try to take advantage everytime she's in the - BECAUSE of 44B, then she just never stops attacking. I can't remember the attack, 3A+B? The one where she steps and does a mid thrust that completely evades almost everything out of prep? THAT's another big problem.

_I can't prep her, her step game is strong(22_88N B for starters), I can't 44B her like I can everyone else because she can punish it better then anyone with her own, she has some really strong lows that I can't ever see coming except the A+K,B one........

She just kicks my ass.

Also, What's the deal with Ivy kicking Raphaels ass? What does she really have outside of 214B to evade verticals at disadvantage(which she has to be in CL for, her worst weapon)?

She's negative on hit with almost everything(even most of SW), Her lows generally suck, SE is just shaking/ducking a weak UB and blocking/jumping the A+K low Command throw. What makes this such a difficult/anti christ match up for Raphael?
