Yeah nori, you obviously weren't there. Everyone there can tell you how energetic the finals were for SC. Worst thing that could've happenned is hilde vs hilde finals. That would've fucked evo.

What kind of thing to say is that? He was being honest. When you win some matches it's just because you guessed right more than your opponent. Sometimes that's just luck. It happens in every game, every competition, ever, and says nothing about the players or the balance.

And I watched the stream and read the failchat. If people don't like ROs, too bad; they're ignorant, and I would never cater to them.

Also saw such brilliant comments as "Nightmare is top tier, he's the RO king." Frankly, I couldn't care less what people with that mindset think.

Yes she is top tier.
Yes you have to be playing our absolute best to beat her.
So are you saying that because she's hard to beat that you need to Boo her?
FFS. That's seriously Booing any other top tier character in any FG. And to be honest all it proves is a POOR community.
Look at the SF4 community. Shit like "ZOMG ZANGIEF LARIAT IS TEH BROKENZ!" gets shut down almost instantly and the 99.9% of the community just regard it as a trash thread, explain why it isn't broken, How to deal with it, people get smarter and they move on.
Here it's all "ZOMG HILDE IS BROKEN!" and despite people explaining the holes and ways around it, the majority of the community sit on their BanWagon high horse and refuse to even learn that you can deal with it.
Look at how KDZ won. Look at How malek won. Hilde RO is cheap - If she can land it. It's slow and step-able. she can use it as whiff punish sure, but that means you took a risk that was step-able. RISK-REWARD, IS THE RISK WORTH THE REWARD? KDZ from what I saw took almost no risks against Ceirnian OR RTD.
C3A is nasty nasty business. If it aGI's. Kick's are gonna tear Hilde apart if she relies solely on C3B and aGI C3A.
For christ sake, LEARN THE MATCH UP.
 
Booing the doom combo brought a heel heat that brought a ton of energy to the SC4 matches and made the whole thing feel more exciting. I don't think anyone that was there live would interpret booing the doom combo as booing the game.

The whole top 8 was fantastic, and represented SC4 really well. Hopefully well enough that it will be back next year. Mad props to everyone.

Maybe i should've worded it different. I'm not saying he won the tournament by luck. I thought he was saying he was lucky to beat Hilde, in which case sometimes he was. But, I'm making that point because of how powerful Hilde is, not because I doubt Malek's skill. Dude is good and played his ass off. Hats off to him
 
I think top 8 was GREAT... and the booing of these "broken" characters brought some brevity to the scene, especially because they lost. Obviously they are not "broken" to the onlookers who don't play Soulcalibur, because they didn't win. They are stoppable, and because of this, maybe they will think better of the game and it's balance.

There was so much hype going on, and audience interaction that there is NO WAY SC4 won't be at EVO next year. Soulcalibur was kicked out of EVO because it was boring, there were splitting issues, and generally it made for a game that had no hype. This tournament brought us back into the spotlight...

This game could have been better, but it's way too late to worry about that now with the game being almost a year old. It is what it is. Play Broken Destiny.

But the top 8 put on a show. Y'all were great. I never been so hyped for a video game as I am right now. And my interest was waning a bit, but the tourney at Jay's and now Evo brought that shit back. I'm hoping that by next year, I can do some damage.

Hopefully this will put an end to the constant bitchin' of those crying about Hilde and Algol because ultimately it boils down to the skill of the player. So stop q_q and get that money.

With the show that was put on today and the strength of this community, there is no way the Soul Calibur is not back at Evo next year which I will be at. I need to be there live.

Lastly, i dont think the booing helped the reputation of our community. Does the sf4 community boo every time somebody picks sagat???

Outside of random shenanigans which will be talked about for ages, here's what went down.

Bibulus and I were some of the first people to boo hilde, and it was a good thing. It got people going, it got people hype, and to use wrestling terms, it made faces and heels. You all should be thanking me for making our finals exciting for the many many people in attendance. Its better to have love AND hate than silence

Best shit ever - I started a USA chant for thugish pond, but as soon as he switched to hilde the crowd turned on him. Thats some brett hart shit right there!!!!!

So yeah, Hilde got booed, KDZ looked like a hero, and people were interested.


KDZ I would personally like to thank you for saving the SC4 community. Malek, you too, you represented, youre a humble champ. OmegaMitsurugi - Thank you for standing up for lower tiers. AlphaMale - thanks for showing us what the new generation can do. And Ciernian and RTD - thanks a million for playing really well and being the villains, the crowd and the game really really needed that.

Honestly - bestfinals ever.


Anyway time to go watch sf4 and go have sex with more random girls and get this community to party and loosen up. we earned it.
 
Well that is one way of looking at it.

But I can't help but think of the players doing something else at the time overhearing all that booing, probably thinking "What's so serious about that game to generate so much hate?" and recieving a bad impression about the game/player base.
 
First I need to say I was not one of the first people to start booing... well when it came to thugish I was THE first... but yeah at first I didnt think it was good for the community. But it really did give the spectators sides to cheer for even if they didnt know the game. I do think it was a good thing and you guys need to stop bitching about it when you werent there. Like seriously if you werent there to experience the whole enviorment in the room shut the fuck up because you dont know shit. Like the GG, 3rd strike or tekken finals didnt have near that kind of hype and that everyone who wasnt in the SC community was involved and cheering is alot more then you can say for any other game yet

People said that SC4 would be dead after EVO and Nats. And to me, right now, it looks like it's more alive then it's ever been.

Nori: I felt this comment was necessary since I dont take kindly to unjustified disrespect. Just make sure whatever level of disrespect ur bold enough to act out on online u dont translate in person since I believe I may meet u at Nats. Its not a threat but I figured it would be informative.
 
The booing may have helped the Hype, but did it help the community?
Do you think people are going to want to play a game that people will actively boo?
It's essentially just creating a Brawl type expectation for SC4 - "Oh lawl, it's all Fox v Fox, no items, Final Destination."
 
Please the only thing the booing did was point out what we all already know; that bitch is cheap as fuck.
All of EVO saw that shit, you're that close to winning and one mistake...ringout and it's all over. Yes the doom combo is a flaw to the game. Even if no one had booed that shit, the silence after those doom combos would have been unbearable. Everyother character has to work for their ringouts, let that be known. Even asta doesn't get ringouts that easily.

Like Serge said, Malek and KDZ in the G finals saved this community, despite a not so epic Gfinals at that. Hilde vs Hilde would have been some fail ass shit.
