SC4 Committee

It's true you can't force someone to love something but you can create an atmosphere where loving a game is much easier. Part of the reason people consider something is ugly is because they were told that. There was a time where people thought fat people were sexy. So obviously what people say in this community has a strong effect on people who play the game. If we are trying to get people to play a game I don't see how complaining about how cheap it is will help people to play it. It's like trying to sell a car and talking about how bad it is and how there are better cars out there. Sure people have their initial opinion of the car but it changes depending on what you say about it.

People love the game, they hate specific content within the game...this is true for most games.
SC4 is a great game if you stick to single player. But when it comes to competition, one on one action vs other human opponents...balance always plays a role.
My little brother is like 6, and it's pretty obvious to him I am better than him. I have beat him countless times no problem, until one day I picked Algol and bubble spammed him. For the first time despite the obvious skill difference he was well aware of he actually complained...lol.

Point is nobody tells you this is bad, you shouldn't like it, and you follow...especially for video games. Sure as hell no one was telling those idiots during the Evo stream that hilde was broke, they saw that shit and cried, about how dumb it looked for our game.

Now I think your stance is other FGs have a lot unbalanced BS and people love those games? So why shouldn't it work for SC...To be honest I don't know, maybe it's because the fighting system our game runs on is very unique...What is certain, is that we have never been able to tolerate BS in SC.

In SC2 it was easy because WCMaxi, just banned shit that he thought didn't fit the game.
In SC3 after a lot of hell, people pissed off, VC was finally banned officially.
In SC4 so far, it's been back and forth, nothing is concrete.

So my point here is let us do something about it now, whether it's to allow everything or ban specifics, because later on this shit will come back to bite us in the ass.

My personal take on it. Bans aren't to keep the status core and please the elite players, bans are usually for the new guys, because they complain the most. The old players and veterans are almost guaranteed to stay, but new players are hard to come by with so many other fighting titles out there. And if we get more players, we get recognition, and this falls back to Namco actually giving this game more attention.

Do the complaints hurts us? Yes, but we're never quick to resolve them, ever since SC2 were WCMaxi dictated the rules, without any real leadership, we just do whatever. And since we can't resolve the ban issues fast enough, the complaints drag on. Best solution, is to resolve them, from the get go.

There's nothing to do since no one else is implementing a ban. So basically you guys are arguing for nothing. So relax and keep playing Soul Calibur.

KingAce: despite you position, i still have to disagree with the banning (even tho i still think button binding should be banned.) Honestly, there is nothing concrete against with some of the things that "could" or "should" be banned.

Assuming the worst and this version doesn't pick up a BD patch, the worst that comes from this is:

Hilde's Doom combo
Algol's bubbles
Kilik's Asura
Yunsung's SG Game
Voldo's SG game
Amy (no more needed)
Mitsu's 2K,B
Rock being terrible

Now, grant it, you are looking at sarcasm there. However it wasn't as painfully broke as VC, and you right, that shit should've been dealt with from the get-go, and not believe idiots like Chicago and Canada saying it add's depth to the game. Because if that was the case, you should be AWARDED for breaking a throw, not PUNISHED for breaking a throw.

My point is, i may have joked about banning hilde (i love you RTD), and i have told people that people need to deal with Algol being banned(only because it was a nats ruleset and people needed to move on), but they have NO real reason for them being banned. HOWEVER, a national ruleset does need to be in place. So if this committee does exist, it's sole purpose is to create a national based ruleset so everyone is on the smae page.

and if nominations are still intact, i nominate myself!!!!! but to be serious, i would nominate Whodat, Tiamat, and ICE. i really can't nominate myself, it couldn't be allowed

Again, no other region is implementing a ban, so there's no need for a committee or a need for a national ruleset because everyone else would be continuing with the game as is. Plus it is way too early to be discussing this when we don't know what will happen with the console version of the game or the interest level of the game.

So unless you guys like going back and forth without producing any results, my suggestion would be to wait until January before starting any committees since there's nothing you need a committee for right now. Plus that way we know if a ban brings people back to the game or not. So relax, keep playing and trying to grow the game in your respective communities and end this committee talk. If needed, it can always be picked back up, but right now it is not needed.

Resolve from the get go? People only thought Algol was cheap from the get go, took a long time for people to think Hilde was cheap and just now for people to want Amy banned. So obviously banning from the get go really wouldn't of done too much. As for Evo, calibur players did tell the announcers how cheap Hilde was. Aris and Chacha both talked about how cheap she was while they were commentating. Also one of the announcers still thought Hilde was cool so why did you use this as an example? As for catering to new players, that would mean banning button mashing, kilik, and raph. When the Soul Calibur Universe forums were up those were the top complaints and main things those people wanted banned.

HEY HEY HEY NOW!!!!! i played kilik *cries*

But to be serious

Malice: why are you still on that? i think most of us have established that we don't need the committee now, just we would like to know what to do once a committee is needed, espically for next year's nats.

Yeah, I probably should have, but I'll let another mod do it. I don't want to get involved.

On a side note, I say instead of banning characters, we ban bitching about characters.

Now THAT is progressive thinking! May I also add that we ban bitching about bindings to that as well? Or just bitching in general?

Can't we ban something that's harmless, so at least the word ban doesn't have to feel useless? For instance, what if we banned these smilies: :A::A::B: It's actually more work to click on these things than to type out AAB... ban it.

I just offered a suggestion because I knew this thread would produce no results and would turn into a thread about bitching and nonsense. You don't have to take it if you don't want to.

Plus I am sure if and when there is a nats next year, that those involved in the planning can and will handle the rules which also defeats the purpose of trying to create a committee, especially if none of the organizers are in the committee to give it any legitimacy.

But don't mind me, continue on.

Malice: you're right about that fact, i guess that i'm trying to be too optimistic on the subject. but knowing how long on the whole algol banning issue took. I just wanted to be a little proactive only because of the fact that for some ODD reason, that this community takes forever on sensitive subjects like this. but it's not like i digress your opinion, but to me it seems like you're saying the same thing over and over again. Maybe it's just how i'm looking @ what you're saying, and instead of how you're saying it.

meh...it doesn't matter now...I guess this thread probably does need to be closed then since the committee won't be happening anytime soon.

Well to those that i pm'd: again i apologize for what was said (not like it was being angry anyway) but yea, it really doesn't look like this is going too much furthur on this. but it is at least good to know that some progress is being made. Which in fact is better than NO progress at all

:sc4amy1:

Well it's been a good boredom killer. Kept me busy 'til college started up again.

I do think Nationals rules should get taken care for early though. Hopefully that gets done.

Its not just about who knows the community or whos been around the longest. The guys who can bring in lots of new players are just as if not more important.

DUDE...that sux. For realz. Yea, hey, if you stop by lynchburg for WHATEVER reason...and i really mean that...for whatever reason.

there's a place called Moore's. Famous chili dog/conveince store. gotta try it. i make sure i go there every time i go to VA
