Broken Destiny - First Impressions

LOL at the quick battle AI. Setsuka like, wavedashed back and forth with umbrella and throws freaked me out. Then I think it did something along the lines of 1B:B, 1B:B, FC 3B:B, jf umbrella, 33B. Lol namco.

You probably fought the holder of the 4th title (Katana Master), and they indeed made her CRAZY. She never misses a JF and wavedashes at inhuman speeds, and she rapes you if she steps your B attack. She was one of the few AIs that I couldn't beat with Dampierre, I had to switch to Astaroth for her. .-.

And Dampierre better be permanent, he's just too lovely.

I'm kind of annoyed that there isn't a straight forward arcade mode, but other than that I think it's pretty awesome. The game looks amazing on the PSP, and the ability to make the same customs I have in SC4 is pure enjoyment. I just find it really difficult to pull off some of the movesets with the cramped controller - I'd hate to try the game on a PSPGo.

Love the game. The AI is pretty alright for an AI, and decent enough for some fun games. In fact this is probably the best AI Soul Calibur had so far. The pad although awkward, takes a while to get used too but it just take a little practice to get it all down. Many casual players and those interested in SC's story (LOL fighting game story) may moan the lack so story mode, actually I think Dampierre's story might be really interesting if the game had a story mode.

Oh and a minor thing, hey guys, remeber the official artwork of Dampierre sitting on a throne with a bunch of goons around him? Do those characters appear in any form in the game?

They're only mentioned. I didn't read much in Gauntlet because it was painful to do so, but I know Dampierre's journal entries talk about them (unlocked by getting Honors).

Some of these AIs are so hard to beat it's insane. xD The pad is meh, I modded it so the d-pad's easier to work.

But Gauntlet... god it's painful to go through, there arent even real matches. You know what'd be good? If it was like SCII WM, where only the first few chapters were tutorials and the rest were matches with a purpose. I'm kind of just going through it for the lulz.

As far I have tested SC BD, I say this game is more balanced than SC4.
I don't say that because Zas was improved but I have more pleasure to play at this game than SC4.
So, I hope we will have a patch 1.04 for SC4 to set all SC4 chars like SC BD.

Armor break in BD is much more consistent, and seems to depend on damage taken. Zas 66A+B, for example, breaks mid armor in 10 hits, while 3B4 66A+B breaks in 5. Because your opponent must have full armor to perform armor purge, making sure to break at least one piece of armor can be important for gauge-heavy characters and might reasonably impact which moves you perform in your juggles. Zas 3B4 4A+B does more damage than the 66A+B ender, for example, but it does much less armor damage.

Some moves cannot break armor- probably the same set that cannot CF. They do cause armor damage, but cannot knock anything off. Standard throws cause armor damage to multiple locations, but also cannot break anything.

That's completely untrue. Armor purge gets the same results with one remaining piece of armor as with all three.

That's not true either. I've broken high armor with a throw, and had mine broken with a throw. Standard throws are high moves, and they can break armor.

Did you test anything? Or does everything you say come out of your ass?

It came from a couple matches in which I was trying unsuccessfully to armor purge after losing my mid armor. You're right, though, so I guess my PSP input skills are just garbage.

You're also right about throws. They will break armor, though it's not always high armor.

Apologies for the misinformation. The swine flu has surely reached my brain.

And with any other new or changed moves that you know of :)

How's the new single player modes? If I buy a psp for this, I'm unlikely ever to get any other competition around here on it, though the thought of Soul Calibur on the go is very tempting.

Agreed, I'm selling a lot of my things to GameStop, like my DSi, just for a PSP go for SC on the go.

Anybody have trouble with shoulder buttons behaving kinda weird? I'v tried out BD on two PSPs now, and esp when playing shoulder bind hilde, sometimes when I release B I'd get A charge instead, and sometimes holding down a shoulder would activate some kinda gimped rapidfire of that button (A, AA, C1A when when I'm still holding down the button w/o releasing).

The PSPs I tried were 1000 and 2000. Anybody have similar experiences? =( I dunno if this is a hardware or a software bug problem.

The PSP's triggers weren't designed well for holding. I find that games where I have to hold down triggers (Monster Hunter) that I have to press down pretty hard to make sure it doesn't think I let go of it early. I haven't bothered much with Hilde in BD, but I imagine I'd have the same problem.

The triggers work just fine if you press them down once for a command, but holding doesn't respond as well.

Those buttons just suck. When I was playing Rock Band on my brand new 3000, the shoulders would double or even triple register my presses all the time. No mistaking it. Very aggravating.

Switching between tracks in Unplugged is super sensitive no matter what button you map it to, I wouldn't call that the button's fault. Holding a track switch button down for more than .1 seconds = Im'ma scroll to Bass now, enjoy.

The AI on Quick Battle are retarded at times...

Throw spamming Rock, Ninja Bombs everywhere from a Taki, Umbrella spamming Sets and a bloody Sophitia that spams TAS B/236 B and never misses the fricking JF! >.<

They gave certain quick match AI's personalities, per say. It usually coincides with the title you earn for beating them. The umbrella spamming Setsuka for example, has the title "Reckless Fool" because of how unsafe she is.
