Whoa, Hilde is top tier? Maxi is bottom tier?

From what I've read, the basic consensus is that Maxi is a bottom tier fighter, while Hilde is top, which I find completely ridiculous. From all the matches I've ever fought, both online and offline, the result is exactly opposite. Hilde is slow, clunky, and easy to disrupt, while Maxi is fast, powerful, and completely impossible to predict. Even at my best game, I lose to 9 out of 10 Maxi players, even noobies. Hilde, on the other hand, I wreck all the time. The only time I ever lose to her is when they start LOL INFINITE RINGOUT COMBO spamming, and walled arenas negate that completely. Is there something I'm missing here?

All I know is that I can't begin to comprehend his moveset. I tried playing him, I really did, but none of it made sense to me, and the same goes for when I fight against others. His moves are stupidly fast, half of them stun, and just about all of them combo into 3+ hits. And he has an unshakeable, fast low stun! What the fuck is up with that!?

Oh wait, so does Amy. BUT STILL FUCK THAT SHIT.

Is there something I'm missing here?
yes.
i know from my experiences and general opinion, hilde is far superior. i dont know how long you've been playing or what kind of people you play against, but i think some changes are needed. or atleast watch some tournement vids for better insight.

Nar: You live in Chicago, meet up with Thugish_Pond. He's the current National champion. He can show you why you'll never beat Hilde.

hilde kills you in one hit

maxi kills you with easy to read mix ups

you do the math

i love maxi tho

i will continue to play him

It's no joke. Hilde is responsible for people quitting SCIV by losing to her, while Maxi is responisble for making people quick by losing with him.

Hilde might be "slow" in some sense, but she's + on block frequently, has tremendous range, a quick/powerful sidestep and the ability to RO you from way way too far away.

For all of maxi's stance "speed", there are holes in his stance game all over, he only trashes you when you don't know them.

You have to learn how to fight against Maxi. He has so many choke points...
Don't tell that to the enemy! ;)

But seriously. Maxi's got predictable options from neutral stance, relies on blockstrings which he then mixes up, and must put the opponent on defense to open up his best options. And when he's got that going, it's usually safer for him to continue attacking than blocking. Though he's got a lot of TCs, TJs and stepping moves for that.

Usually it's harder playing against people not used to Maxi or your playstyle, because they don't know when they "should" be defensive, thus they're shutting down your options. It takes rounds or even matches to condition your opponents to certain responses you need to set up big damage, and that playstyle itself isn't suitable for tournament competition. Though I can't say I have any tournament experience.

Hello, lets play sometime, where in chicago are you? You'll see why Hilde is good =)

general anti maxi:

-2A beats alot of his strings

-AA and BB are unsafe

-4BBK's final hit (the K is high)

-fuzzy guarding tears maxi up

-RC B beats 2A

-learning to duck LO K on reaction makes maxi so much worse

i hope that helps a little

Really?! We're really discussing Maxi vs Hilde here?? There's nothing to discuss, Maxi is god awful and Hilde is god. Someone gave the right advice earlier, if you have problems fighting Maxi it's because you don't know him. The only way to really learn him would be to play a Maxi player frequently or learn Maxi yourself so you can begin to recognize his strings and how you should counter them. For example, that 'low stun' you're talking about is probably his RC KK, a slow low sweep that causes an unbreakable stun into a flip kick and then a bruce lee style flying kick if they do the just frame. When you can recognize each stance Maxi is in, you'll see this move coming from so far away, even online, you'll be able to block the low sweep and GI the flip kick everytime. Other shitty strings of Maxi's include 44A,B where the B part of that attack can be GIed everytime, this is hard to do online but offline it's a snap. Ducking the K in Maxi's 4BBK series is probably the first step to exposing Maxi for the trash he is. If someone ever uses AA or BB on you and you block it, stop any other incoming bullshit with 3K just in case the Maxi player tries to get cute with the B+K auto GI. Certain attacks of his gives frames which means even if you block it, Maxi will beat you to the next hit. Most of these frame traps come from high moves that can be ducked and gives you a free hit on him.

As for Hilde, since she's so slow and clunky as you said, we don't have to give you advice on her lol. But I'll just warn you that all the Hilde players you must have fared against were.....well, garbage. If you weren't flying out of the ring every single round, then the Hilde player wasn't doing her job. Even in a closed arena, a good Hilde player will fuck you up.

he doesn't have advantage into the flying kick, there's no need to GI, just punish before he gets it out. Some characters might be too slow for that though.
Maxi is a god cause his hair is top tier.

edit: oh my bad, you said GI the flip kick. I don't think I've done that. Why question KrayzieCD

The general rule against Maxi, is to do a quick BB or something after blocking the 3rd hit of his attack strings.

A Hilde that doesn't do her charge combos is going to just plain suck, the rest of her moveset pales in comparison to those. A Hilde that spams her charge combos is easy to beat too. A Hilde that intelligently uses her charge combos to punish you... is tough (but still very much beatable) and will completely destroy you if you don't play safely against her (learn what moves you have that are safe and don't get auto-gi'ed by her A charges).

Walls don't make you safe from Hilde either. If you're not sent sliding off the ring, you're eating 100+ damage instead, just because she happened to step one of your attacks and punish with C3B. Eat that combo again and you're finished.

...or just play Yoda and put a stop to her doom combo once and for all =D

;/ Obviously if you are being beaten by button mashers you're doing it wrong.
Even before I cracked open Maxi's movelist, I simply 2a'd or K'd him in the face. Zas pimphand or Amy 6BB him after basically anything.

yoda is not a hilde counter

C2BB spacing makes it impossible for yoda to get close

I can't believe this is even being discussed. I won't say Maxi is "awful," but Hilde is so obviously strong. I don't think you've been hit by enough doom combos. Can someone post a link for the guy of some of Hilde's strings or a match of a good Hilde? I'm at work and I can't get on youtube (but I can on this site, haha).
