Soul Calibur V Gameplay Demos from EVO2K11!

Word on the news vine is that during the upcoming top 8 stream for Tekken 6 at Evolution 2K11, Namco Bandai Games International and @FilthieRich will be announcing a few new reveals for Soul Calibur 5! The top 8 stream for Tekken 6 will begin immediately after the end of top 8 for BlazBlue.

12:25pm : opening statements. Introduction of Katsuhiro Harada and Daishi Odashima.

12:27pm : new character announced: Leihua, Xianghua's daughter.

12:29pm : gameplay demo with Zwei and Patroclus, explaining the new critical edge system; it appears that critical edge supers can also ring out. In addition, we also get to see a significant amount of gameplay featuring Zwei's "partner" Ein.

12:37pm : gameplay demo with Mitsurugi and Siegfried. Match takes place on Zwei's new "boundless" stage which has no ring outs or walls. The game looks much faster paced than its predecessors.

12:41pm : closing remarks from Daishi Odashima and Katsuhiro Harada wishing that the game will be featured in an upcoming EVO tournament. Planned release for the game to be 2012, as expected.

2:55pm : @filthirich announces a playable demo of Soul Calibur 5 at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

Oh God I hope they won't return... Hey, in the video from Comic-con CFs were called as "unfair"... So I think that they'll be removed entirelly...

Had to double check, but none of the Comic-Con videos said they are unfair (which they're not really).

If I remember right specifically it was that they didn't like the CF system as it was, and it needed to be changed. I read that as them saying 'no CF's', but mileage will vary :p

Without facts, its kinda hard to rule something like that out. We know for sure, is they are looking into a 3rd factor for Critical gauge, and the life bar still flashes red.
My point is, its cool to assume, but lets not pass it off "as a sure thing"

I like the critical finish but they can make something better. CF is fun but maybe its better if it is something you can do after you win.

 

Think the reason they had came up with CFs so it'd be easier to punish turtlers. (Since Ringouts aren't really a good method). But I'm not sure If i want CFs back since they have supers... @Amy but I like your idea about some kind of match finisher or something.

 

Looks like that guard impact or parry used some of Mitsu's meter. I don't know if i like that or not but the game looks pretty good so far.

 

I'm going to miss Xianghua, but it'll be cool to have her daughter. I've been thinking that X and Kilik will be replaced by their child(ren). I wonder if anyone will inherit Kilik's style? I half expected their kid to fight like Maxi, just to knock out three birds with one stone XD But that would be kinda lame.

I'm hoping now that the rest of the new characters don't use old movesets... I know it's going to suck to see your main disappear, but come on! I want some more actually completely brand new characters. Like Zwei. I mean, if Raphael is not in it, I'm going to main a new character. So far, likely Zwei. Half the fun is going to be learning new movesets, no?

I saw somebody say Xianghua was the youngest female... Is somebody forgetting Talim and Amy?

I'm hoping both of them will return. No Talim's young cousin who fights exactly like her or anything like that, please.

On a side note... I thought Pat's name was spelled Patroklos, not Patroclus?

I'm pretty disappointed with the way they played in the video. Nothing but BB's and messing around. I understand that they were just trying to show off the mechanics, but this is EVO - a place where competitive players gather, Project Soul must have some players who can play at high level and master these characters to demonstrate the game at high level competitive play.

She should be wearing the most revealing outfit in the game while we're at it.

Only it should show things that nobody wants to see.

 

If I remember correctly Tobal 2 had a chunky female wrestler. I haven't played that series in years. I need to dust those disk off again.

Really, I think they've just run out of ideas on how to design a unique and interesting character that stands out, so someone just said, "how about we make one that's stupidly fat?" He stands out alright, but at the expense of pushing their already tenuous hold on realism completely over the edge into absurdity.
