Official SCV Stage Discussion

My personal wishlist and thoughts about SC V stages:

-Valentine Mansion needs to be in. I'd love to see how it has changed after 17 years and Ivy always looks great on her home turf. Looking back over every past game in the series, no other stage exudes the same vibe as this one in my opinion.

-A final stage that is on par with SC3's Lost Cathedral Ruined version (Abyss stage). That stage was amazing with so much going on and great lighting effects. PS2 was pushed to its measly limit right there. Let's see them give the same effort on Xbox 360 and PS3 hardware. Both are much more powerful than the PS2 was. SC IV was a letdown in this respect.

-There needs to be a very good Japanese themed stage and maybe bring back Zasa's Clock Tower stage (minus the Clock gear shenanigans).

-Multi-tiered stages with more environmental interactivity would be incredible if they could implement these aspects well enough. SC lends itself well to this due to the general time setting. However, it won't be easy to do without becoming a potential issue with high level play. DOA successfully did it, which proves this can be done. But that series is nowhere near as good as SC if you ask me. This one is only wishful thinking.

As for where we stand now.....I'm sure there will be another floating raft stage. We already have our new Colosseum, which is a series staple. Let's hope that Project Soul does something creative with the rest of the game's stage design and layouts in general. We need more creative boundary implementation. This was another weakness SC IV had.

I want SC V to blow SC IV away. It can at least improve in areas where there was nowhere to go but up.

Thank you for taking out the time to read this
I want precisely zero of that. Actually, I’d be ok with – no, scratch that, I’d genuinely like – such gimmicks in a “special versus” or single-player tower mode. Those kinds of weird variables add to the variety and fun of such modes. But for genuine fighting competition, the core versus mode, absolutely not.

Now, graphically speaking, I really, really, really hope to see more interesting stages. Not just stage backgrounds, which they are doing a good job with; I mean the actual platforms themselves need more interesting surfaces - whoever talked about waving grasses or splashing puddles is exactly right. That would be a huge upgrade in dramatic effect without negatively affecting the gameplay at all.

I remember they pulled something like this in the original SB, specifically Rock's stage, where you can see tall grass swaying in the wind.

6 stages thus far...

Torture Chamber
Pirate Ship
Colosseum
Nighttime Battlefield
Wolfkrone Kingdom (the town level)
Forest Gate

I'd like to see the Phantom Pavillion stage/or a variation of the stage to return.
It had cool elephants, people swinging back and forth, and a huge crowd in the background. Like an awesome circus!

Can I just say that the two most recently revealed stages (the ones with Hilde and Maxi) are drop dead gorgeous. Easily better than anything included in SCIV. And SCIV had some nice stages. I am very happy with all of the stages revealed so far. I really hope they keep this up!

Wall Break that opens up Ring Edge
I like the circus stage in SC IV that featured this concept. However, I think the victim should just get rammed through the wall and take a little bit more extra damage rather than stand there and get comboed further.
Saved from a combo, but now at Ring Out is available.

Also, a ruins setting would be better than a circus.
The arena could start out in a cramped room (I'm thinking it should be in Ostrheinsburg Ruins and as such, roofless); when one of the walls is broken, it opens up to an open area near the cliffs.

Big Arena to Small Arena
I do like the concept of SC IV's Ostrheinsburg Castle stage with the knights marching and reducing the arena size. However, I hate the fact that the knights are oversized. They should just change the setting to some ruins, with walls moving closer like some Indiana Jones deathtrap.

Changing Arena Conditions/KO on Time Out
Fighting in a burning mansion (SC III) is cool but I thought, why not make it a race against time?
After 1st round, a portion of the roof will crumble. If the match ends with a time out, whoever's standing under the part of the roof dies; if no one is standing under it, decision by health bar.
After 2nd round, the remaining roof will crumble. If the match ends with a time out, it's a double KO.
The 3rd round will be fought outside the burning mansion, with the burning mansion as the Ring Edge (You get burned to death if you get knocked into the burning mansion). The gates of the mansion serves as wall.
The 4th and remainder rounds will see rain quenching the fire. Ring Edge gives way to Wall Splat.

I think that they should do some stages like this: (Credit to Reignheart for the first one).

Time Stage:
They should bring back Ivy mansion that is burning down due to a lightening bolt striking the house. You two must fight each other in order to make it out. Round one: The Study; fight in a formal enclosed area with flames creeping down the wall as you fight. Round two: The Hallway; an area that is covered in rubble and flames. Round 3: Top of the stairs; fight to the death as the fire gives chase to its prey (if you knock your opponent down the stairs, it is a ring out). Round four (final): The Balcony; fight to decide who gets to jump into the moat to escape the burning building. At the end, whoever wins will be showcased in a little scene showing their character jumping of the balcony into the moat.

Moving Stage:
I think they should make a stage at the docks and depending on where you stand will predict which boat you will fight on in Round 2. The boat breaks away from the dock and you are fighting on a freely floating boat.

I am not sure of what you might think of my ideas (credit for first on goes to Reignheart); but I like them.

I'm interested to see how many stages will actually not have ring outs too them. I hope they aren't preparing us for the abolishment of ring outs. they are the only true skill comeback factor.

Two thirds (4/6) of the stages shown so far have ROs possible. Torture chamber walls fold down; Pirate Ship we’ve seen ROs on; the forest castle stage is a drawbridge over a river; and the city square stage is, again, by a river. Wherefore this fear of RO “abolishment?"
----
On a separate note, the forest castle stage looks amazing (actually, both new stages look amazing, but the long youtube vid with Pyrrha and Voldo is what I want to focus on here). Leaves blowing over the drawbridge, a siege engine straining against the gates, being pushed by soldiers and... um... orcs? WTF? Anyway... various catapults, some fires in the surrounding hills, archers firing at each others, glorious foliage everywhere!, waterfalls, beautiful light... I applaud the effort, it looks like a much more dynamic background than anything from IV.

That new stage where astaroth is featured is really appealing.

Long and narrow, with 3 walls and 1 edge. Fights remind you of those old 2D fighters.

the stages are completely awesome but but...
I've yet to see dodos Q__Q i am quite concerned...
could someone please ask namco to put dodos in SCV on daishi's twitter?
I don t have twitter :(

This awesome new image has really hyped me up! Looks like story mode includes an incedibly detailed world map once again, so hopefully we'll see an epic world journey and loads more amazing stages!!

real world instead bs fantasy land = epic win

Agreed 100% mate. I was getting a little concerned, what with the increasingly "colourful" new characters. This map brings it right back to reality. Regnum Brittaniae represent!!!

There are so many exciting locations on the map -

Paris, London, The Alps, Venice, Bude etc! We've seen a Germanic location with the townsquare, so bring on the Valentine Mansion.
