Astaroth and Viola Announced at TGS

Tokyo Game Show started today (half a day ago, due to timezones) and already a metric ton of information has been released about various fighting games for the upcoming year. Soul Calibur V is of course no exception with Famitsu getting the details on two new confirmed characters!

The first revealed character is a returning favorite... Astaroth; who if my math is correct, is now 23 years old. The second new character is "Viola"; who attacks with disembodied jewels, very similar to Z.W.E.I. She is working with Z.W.E.I. to accomplish something or another.

I love how they made Natsu's bombs look. They're more fire-like than Taki's.

 

Why are people still making solid assumptions on what little we know...I'm already hearing tier talk on characters we've only seen use around 10-15 moves. And the Amy/Viola theory...I'll validate it is a possibility but the 100%'ers should be pretty modest their theory is unlikely and not backed by any solid proof yet...evidence thus far is very weak and has more counter evidence. Complete change in style, different facial structure/eye, nothing hinting at vampirism..but most importantly she's tied in with Zwei, not raph, and seems to derive her powers from a similar source.

Game looks better an better. I approve of new Astaroth for the most part, the face looks awesome, the skin tone and boots will take some getting used to. My only criticism i have thus far is the audio in this game....music is completely out of place for a fighter and the announcer is shcokingly similar to MK...which may not be a bad thing...but its weird to hear and then we hear a fantasy-esque theme of up lifting strings and chimes and not tension through percussion or other elements.

 

Both are even from the same company... Viola being Amy is certainly a possibility, though I'm not saying I think she is.

Also, if she is Amy, then Raphael has to come back as THE fencer of SC. Hopefully cured and just an arrogant nobleman again instead of a vampire, but that's unlikely. He could totally pull off the middle-aged, stuck up noble character. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. I'll just be happy to see my main back, and hopefully higher-tiered.

Unlikely considering Project Soul thought they made Raph more unique by making him a vampire which is sad. You could let him be a dickish French fencer who likes to dance flamenco or you could make him one of a bajillion vampires. I prefer the former.

But anyway I'm betting Viola is Amy. I mean yeah Namco said she was new but then again when has Namco ever lied to us.......

You can see the quickstep animation when Astaroth does 22/88B at 1:43.. It looks like they did tone it down a bit, but seeing it with every 22/88 move will get pretty annoying.

Well, it's understandable. It's not like M.Night Shyamalan went around in interviews saying "Check out my movie coming out this weekend. Bruce Willis is dead in it."

im guessing it'll be his main punishment tool as in sc4 he didn't have the best punishers. Also im very curious as to weather or not it'll work as a air throw.

I think his CE looked really stupid. Seeing as it's a throw, I think Ivy's would be better. It took over 1/4 of the HP bar in videos.

With those conductors on his back, Astaroth needs the SCIII 236B+G air grab so that he can crush and electrocute ppl. His CE is really lame unless it has an alternative air throw version.

Dude, I have an eyegasm every time I watch the trailer. I can't get over how AMAZING the stages look. Everything about this game is beautiful.

 

Look everybody is entitled to their opinion, but im with those on the forum who agree the "viola=amy" thing is horseshit. There is nothing other than a similar dress to even try to make that comparison. Just get over the fact that there is a possibility Amy is NOT in SCV.

YAY, woohoo! I knew Astaroth(who btw looks bad a$$) was going to be in the game. So speaking of "cloned" characters does this mean no Rock?!? I hope so, I want to see Bangoo(sp?). And Viola does not appear to be a memory lost Amy. Sorry. I think that Z.W.E.I and Viola are two new characters that are working together like it says above. Viola actually reminded me somewhat of Ivy (in design). The hand thing. . .(just on different hands) , white/light violet hair but young. . .? Anyone notice this as well?

I want to see Bangoo too. but he needs a new fighting discipline! let's pass on the giant axe/mace idea. i want to see him with double tomahawks, or tomahawk and knife combo, or the fresh weapon i designed for him which is companioned by a knife.
