Bereavement Symphony (soundtrack included with story)

Chapter 6

There was a groan heard in the room before to the one the officer was in. Madeline stood up aware that whoever or… whatever had done this could easily still be around. She could make out the outline of a person in the dark space shambling towards her.
“Officer, help.” Madeline called and the man instantly ran over to her aid. He looked into the room and drew his gun, training it on the approaching figure. When he aimed his flashlight at what he was looking at he sighed. “Luke?”
Luke stumbled out of the door.
“What—” Luke’s eyes traveled to the blood stained walls in the hall and the trail that led into the room next door. His next instinct was to cover his nose, the smell of blood overwhelming. “—happened?”
“We were going to ask you the same thing. I called and then you fell silent after you answered. Next thing I heard was you screaming and I came running. I thought…” She let her sentence fall not wanting to think of Luke being gone.
“We should get out of here.” The officer said. “Believe me, I’m glad that you’re safe but then that leaves us wondering who the hell the guy in there was.”
“Brad, right?” Luke asked. The officer nodded. “Thank you.”

When the sun was starting to break the horizon the ambulance was just carrying the corpse away to the morgue.
“It seems like we won’t get an ID on this guy until the autopsy.” Chief McSaph said. “Under normal circumstances Luke would be a primary suspect to the murder but since the way the victim died is so…bizarre then this is being kept under wraps from the public and we are assuming this is from the same case we’ve been working on until we get further evidence.”
“Do you believe me or not, chief. That’s all I want to know. It’s obvious that this murder is involved with the others.” McSaph let out a breath.
“I personally am starting to wonder if this is out of our league. This is a lot more dangerous than I thought. The killer can easily kill any of us anywhere.” The phone on the chief’s desk rang. He quickly picked it up. His face suddenly was drained of color. “Are you sure?” After a couple of more moments he hung up and quickly grabbed his coat.
“What’s going on?”
“It’s nothing much. I just need to take care of a personal errand. I’ll be right back.” The chief left through the door.
“He used to be a much better liar.” Madeline commented then she turned to Luke. “Are we following?”
“You got that right.” After McSaph drove out of the parking lot Madeline and Luke rushed to their car. Luke gripped the steering wheel and Madeline could see that his hands were shaking and she was pretty sure it wasn’t because of the cool weather.
“I think I should drive.” Madeline suggested and Luke nodded as he stepped back out of the vehicle to sit in the passenger seat.
It didn’t take long for them to catch up with the chief’s car. It seemed like it was going to be a long drive because McSaph pulled onto the freeway. Dark clouds once again threatened the sign of a storm that was coming.
“Brad should be on this case too.” Madeline said to break the silence that was weighing down.
“What makes you think that? Is it because he saw that mess?” Madeline nodded her head. “Do you realize that if you put him on this case that you’re putting his life in immediate danger? The man has a wife and kids. I wouldn’t want to carry the burden of his possible death on my shoulders.” Several more seconds of agonizing silence passed.
“Well, we can’t do this alone.”
“We have to.”
“There’s more strength in numbers.”
“Don’t you get it?” Luke’s sudden outburst caught Madeline by surprise. “This is not your typical game of cops and robbers. This is not Dick Tracy. This is real and we are dealing with something more than your average criminal. Think about this like a war. If you fire a missile into a populated area you are more liable to hit someone right? This is the same thing. If there are more people on this case then more people will die.”
“You seem to know a lot more than anyone else.” Madeline muttered and Luke either didn’t hear or didn’t care because he said nothing more.
The chief’s vehicle finally turned off the freeway into a town and within a little while they were on the outskirts at a train station. The chief didn’t seem to notice he was being followed because when he got out of his care he didn’t bother looking around.
“Looks like another crime scene.” Luke commented seeing the other police cars gathered. They got out of the car and continued following the chief. Everyone was gathered at the boarding area.
“Good morning, sir.” A police officer said to chief McSaph and Luke and Madeline stayed around a corner to avoid being seen.
“Good morning. Where is the girl that survived?”
“She’s in the ambulance at the moment. The poor girl’s in complete shock.”
“You can’t really blame her. Seeing her friend and mother get killed right in front of her. How do you get over something like that? So the bodies…”
“Umm, one is next to the tracks a little ways back. The other is on the train in that car right there.” The police officer pointed to the third care down on the train. “If I may make a personal suggestion,” The man said as the chief started for the car. “I wouldn’t look at the body in the car. It’s a kid severed in two. There’s no way that I’ll ever forget that.”
“I know but I’m afraid I have to. Not just as a chief of Section thirteen,” McSaph turned and started heading for the car again. “but it’s my duty as a father.”

“If I may make a personal suggestion,” The man said as the chief started for the car. “I wouldn’t look at the body in the car. It’s a kid severed in two. There’s no way that I’ll ever forget that.”

Delete "Kid severed in two" we know what's in that train car already, the chief wants to forget about it, so why would he mention it again?

I get a feeling there's something I'm missing as far as the story goes.(Vincent, I do notice we're both writing or at least posting these on the forums like tv shows, ending each of our parts with a reveal or whatever, I find it kinda funny)

I'll print these out and read them on paper (with your permission of course), I hate reading on a computer screen, much less editing.

Ooooohhhh... the characters are going to meet and their stories are going to intertwine! Exciting! Just one question, but what will be your main theme in your story vincent? I'm in a writing and reading club at school and that's one thing alot of authors lose track of as their story progresses so it's critical that you have a firm idea of your theme/message. Anyway, keep up the great update. :)

That cannot be stressed enough. But your main theme can evolve and change.

Chapter 7
Madeline and Luke stared at each other. Most likely the same thought played across their mind and then they realized why chief looked as if he were a ghost before he left. Suddenly, shouting was heard from the car that the chief went into and the police officer that was speaking with him moments earlier rushed to see what happened. Madeline and Luke decided to follow. When they reached the scene Madeline instantly covered her mouth and turned around, stumbling back off of the train. The chief was kneeling down next to the torso half of a severed girl.
“What or who did this?” Luke asked the police officer while flashing his badge. The man shrugged.
“Hell, if I know. The only person who can offer any explanation is the girl that survived. She saw the whole damn thing. But unfortunately she won’t speak to anyone at the moment.”
“Can I go and speak with her? Meanwhile my partner needs some help of her own.”
“Yes, sir.” The officer led Luke next to the parking lot that the survivor was in and returned to check on Madeline. She insisted that she was fine and quickly joined Luke on his way to where the girl was. When they reached the ambulance there were many other squad vehicles in the parking lot. There were a couple of people trying to talk with the girl but by the look on their faces seemed to be getting nowhere.
“Excuse me gentlemen,” Luke flashed his badge. “I’m here to talk with the girl.”
“She’s all yours.” One of the men said as they walked off.
“Madeline, are you okay to do this?” Madeline gave Luke a quick nod and stepped up to the girl.
“Excuse me. I’m here to help catch whoever did this but in order to do that I need your help. Do you think you can do that for me?” The girl slowly looked up at the two. Madeline tried to give off a smile but knew it would do little to nothing to erase what had happened. “You can just tell me what to person looked that did this and who he or she did it, okay?” Madeline brought out a notebook and paper ready to write whatever the girl said. Seconds ticked by and soon it became apparent that the girl wasn’t going to talk.
“She isn’t going to say anything.” Luke broke the too long silence. Madeline turned to him shocked by his rude outburst.
“Luke, shush!” He merely shrugged.
“Look, if she was going to then she would have said something by now. You’re too soft.”
“And what is that supposed to mean?” Madeline replied in a cross voice.
“Let me use a more persuading measure.” Luke sat next to the girl. “You know that you were very lucky to make it out alive. It’s a wonder you weren’t killed as well but at this rate it is only a matter of time.” Luke paused for a moment. “We had a run in with a person that did the same type of crime we have here. If it is then she’ll come after you and will kill you no matter how many guards are protecting you.” Luke then put his face close to the girl’s, his icy glare meeting her eyes. “Do you want to die like the others?”
“Luke!” Madeline screamed at him and he snapped his head in her direction. The intensity of his eyes erased any words Madeline had on her tongue. He looked as if he could kill anyone at any moment. He turned his attention to the now shivering girl.
“It was a little girl with long black hair wasn’t it?” She nodded her head. “How did she kill?” The girl let out a deep shuddered breath.
“I don’t know. She didn’t even touch them. When I first met her she seemed a little strange but I didn’t think she would kill anyone.”
“Wait a second. What do you mean when you met her?”
“I met her not too far from here. In a wooded area. She said she didn’t have any friends. She said that the only reason I’m still alive is because I was her friend.” Luke stood up.
“I see. Thank you. It seems like you don’t have to worry about her coming after you then.” Luke started to walk back towards his car with Madeline close on his heels.
“It seems as if you know something I don’t. A lot of somethings.”
“I do.”
“How about filling me in?”
“How about later?” Madeline grabbed Luke by his arm and spun him around to face her.
“Luke, I’ve been with you on this case since the beginning and you not telling me anything could be jeopardizing my life.”
“Then why don’t you quite the case?” Madeline was once again shocked at Luke’s harshness.
“I think I might. Me risking my life over something I have no clue of isn’t my ideal line of work.”
“Good. Then you’re off the case as of now.” Madeline gasped.
“W-wait, you can’t. I’m your partner. You just can’t--”
“Madeline, you forget I’m your superior. I’m in charge of this operation and I want you off…NOW. You can catch a ride with the chief.” Without another word Luke got in his car and pulled out of the parking lot. Madeline fought back tears when her arm was tapped. She turned around to face the girl again.
“Oh, is there something you needed…”
“Sabrina.” Madeline force a smile again.
“That’s right, Sabrina. What’s up?”
“There’s something I didn’t tell you before. It was something that the girl, Kayla, and Salem were arguing about.” Madeline dug in her coat pocket for her notebook and paper. “I think that there is another person like Kayla.” Madeline felt her heart skip a beat.
“What do you mean by that, sweetie?”
“Salem said that Kayla killed a group of people before we saw her on the train but Kayla denied it.”
“Well, it could have been something else--” Sabrina shook her head.
“Salem, said that those people were killed with out the person touching them. That’s all that I know.” Madeline scribble all of the information in her not book.
“You said that Kayla was kind of strange when you first met her?”
“She was burying a dead crow and was saying it was her last friend.” Madeline finished writing and flipped her notebook closed.
“Thank you, Sabrina. You are very helpful.”
“I didn’t want to say everything to the other guy because he was scaring me. He looked just like Kayla when she killed my mother and friend. I wish you luck.” Sabrina walked back to the ambulance with the two detectives from earlier waiting for her. Madeline’s mind felt like it was going too many different places at once. Luke withholding information, the possibility of another psycho path, and Sabrina’s last comment was too creepy.
Whatever the case is I’m starting my own little investigation on the side. Luke, I don’t know what’s gotten into you lately but I won’t be left out. Madeline decided to try to get a lift from one of the patrolmen. She was sure her chief was too traumatized to do anything much at the moment and Madeline needed to start investigating anything about another possible Kayla.

I'm thinking sabrina should've acted alittle more traumatized and that it should've been alittle harder to pry some more information out of her. Luke's interaction with madeline was good though. I can tell he's being so cold because he's actually really stressed and worried (right....?) and the fact he kicked his partner off the case might be because he didn't want her to get hurt. Anyway, good chapter vincent. :)

you're right on why Luke acted the way he did. i was gonna edit Sabrina for the reason you stated above but i thought i'd do all the editing after the story was finished but thanks for the insight. right now the story is going to start diving a little bit deeper from this point on.

I'm posting this chapter quickly because it's not in my word document with the rest of my story. (weird) so i had to retrieve it from my writing website. it's pretty short anyway. Shoot now that i think about it i'm missing two chapters from my word document. WTF? so i might post the other chapter later tonight. wow. this is catching up quickly to where I'm at. when that happens then the postings might slow down to once every one or two days. i was thinking about posting up another story while i working on this one some more that way it doesn't seem like there is nothing being posted while i work but that would probably only bring confusion. the whole going back and forth between stories. i would rather here what you guys want. i'm good with either way. i can work hard and try to put up a Bereavement Symphony chapter everyday or i could post one up every other day with another story being posted up on the days i don't post Bereavement Symphony and have some extra time to brainstorm on the story.
CHAPTER 8
Luke still wasn’t sure if what he did was a mistake or not even as he pulled back into the parking lot of Section Thirteen headquarters. On one side Madeline’s life was in immediate danger and after seeing that Kayla could appear anywhere as anyone made up Luke’s mind. On the other side Madeline would probably hate Luke for a while but he could deal with that for the time being. What was important was the immediate situation. After what had happened staying for any length of time by himself was completely out of the question. That was why he began staying at HQ at all times because it was a twenty-four hour working place. The building was never empty and there were always over a dozen or so people in the office area where Luke worked.
Luke walked through the door and immediately knew there was something wrong.
Where the hell is everyone? The building was completely vacant by what Luke could see. There was no sign that suggested a struggle.
“Everyone is gone out on call.” The voice behind Luke made him jump. He spun around and recognized it was Brad, the man that came with Madeline when Kayla was at the projector room.
“Why are all of them out on call at the exact same time? Didn’t anyone find that a little bizarre?” Brad shrugged.
“I did. But you know most of the people here. They do what they’re told and without question.”
“Do you know where they were called to?” Brad shook his head and sighed.
“Everyone was called to a shit load of places. There were about hundred people in this facility and every single one of them were called out to one place or another.” Luke nodded trying to assess what was going on when something immediately came to mind.
“And why aren’t you out?” A confused look played across Brad’s face at the way the question was asked.
“Hell if I should know. It might be because I’m not even on duty yet. What about you? Where’d you get back from?”
“A crime scene.”
“Anything to do with that weird case of yours?”
“Unfortunately, yes it does. The bastard got the chief’s daughter.”
“No, shit. At least tell me you have a lead or something.”
“The only thing I know is that the suspect is branching out a little but who knows if that is legit for long. I can’t seem to get the connections together for her victims.”
“Maybe you could ask your partner for help.” Luke remained quiet for a moment.
“She’s no longer on the case. I kicked her off.”
“What the hell for?”
“She was in immediate danger.”
“Everyone is in immediate danger.” Luke eyed Brad.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Everyone I’ve talked to and even me can tell that we’re being followed when we go home at night. I don’t even feel safe inside my own home.”
“Who’s following you?” Luke asked.
“I don’t know. Some black vehicle but it’s the same one every time I head home. I have some weird feeling that this is connected with your case somehow.” Suddenly, the lights went out making the building virtually dark due to the rainy weather not providing sunlight. Luke reached for his weapon but was hit in the back of the head and instantly blacked out.

Nice cliffhanger ^-^ Well, good luck with the brainstorming. Listen to music, that's what I do when I need to brainstorm.

CHAPTER 9
Madeline managed to get a ride with a patrolman but unfortunately had no clue where to start. She had been told that there might be another killer and if that was the case then finding out if it was true was top priority. Madeline was also told that in a wooded area near by was where Sabrina first found Kayla and then Sabrina’s friend supposedly saw the murder of several other people by this other killer. That at least gave her two leads. She wanted to at least see about her second option first because it should be easier to find. Finding out where Sabrina met Kayla in the woods would be like finding a needle in a haystack and Madeline mentally kicked herself for not asking.
“Did you hear anything about the murder of several people last night?” Madeline asked the patrolman.
“No, the only reports I got were a series of random screams but everyone assumed it was just a bunch of drunks on a night out. It is Saturday after all.”
“But were any bodies found?”
“I’m afraid not and it hasn’t been late enough for people to file any missing persons reports.”
“I see. Well, I want to check it out anyway. There might be something there that whoever cleaned up the scene left behind or didn’t see during the night.”
“Either that or the bodies will turn up.” When they arrived at the area where the yelling and screaming was said to have taken place Madeline got out of the car and immediately started looking around for anything suspicious. The area was a T-intersection that was on the outskirts of the city and therefore busy at all. After a half-hour of searching the area Madeline climbed back into the car, her long dark hair a little damp from the light drizzle.
“Well, if there was any blood then either it was cleaned up very well or the rain that went on all last night washed it away.”
“I see.” The patrolman put the car back in drive. “Where to next, then?”
“I want to check out those woods back in the area from where we came.”
“You got it.” The drive took less then five minutes and Madeline got out of the car and into the drizzling rain once again.
“Sit tight. I’ll be back in thirty minutes.” Madeline told the man and he gestured a salute. As Madeline headed deeper into the forest she found herself wondering more and more why she was there in the first place. The woods were creepy when there was no one with her and everything looked the same everywhere she went. If it weren’t for the compass on her watch she would have most likely have gotten lost. After seeing that every tree was like the other Madeline finally decided to turn back. It had only been ten minutes since she had left the car and that meant another ten minutes heading back.
As Madeline trudged back she notice a brush that had a small mound underneath it. Madeline rushed to it hoping that her luck wasn’t too good to be true. She fitted on her rubber gloves and started removing the dirt. She saw what looked like a wing and then heard a noise from within the woods. Madeline spun around and looked to see if anyone was coming. She suddenly had a heavy feeling of someone watching her and she quickly uncovered the dirt that was covering the crow. Madeline took out a plastic zip lock bag from within her jacket and place the dead crow inside. The feeling was still with her even as she practically ran back to the car. When she arrived at the car she was relieved to she the patrolman and his vehicle still there.
The man had his face covered with a newspaper and his seat reclined back. Obviously, getting a quick nap while Madeline was away. She opened the door and sat in her passenger seat with a heavy sigh and put the bagged crow in the back seat.
“Alright, this was our last stop for the day so you can rest after you drop me off back at the train station.” Madeline said and pulled the newspaper from the patrolman’s face to only have a distorted expression starring with white eyes out the front window. Madeline screamed and fell out of the car. Her heart feeling like it would burst through her chest. She quickly opened the back seat door and grabbed the crow. She then started to run in the direction of the train station. A lone vehicle on the rode approached and Madeline waved her arms to flag them down. The vehicle slowed to a stop and man exited the SUV with a gun in hand. He was dressed in a black suit with an earpiece in his ear.
Madeline turned to run but slipped in a puddle on the road and hit her knee on the pavement. The man was instantly on top of her. She managed to turn over and punch the man, quickly, in the jaw. The hit knocked him off balance enough for Madeline to push him off of her. Madeline reach for the assailant’s weapon and another person grabbed her from behind. The first person that attacked her threw a hard punch to Madeline’s stomach and she doubled over and didn’t move.

Yikes! Poor madeline, facing such horrors. Good job vincent. Oh, but you should add a few more commas in your story. That's all. I await your next update <(^o^)

CHAPTER 10
Madeline awoke, suddenly, from her coma and looked around the room she was in.
Where am I? She wondered. Then her memories came flooding back to her. She was attacked by a couple of men in dark after finding a piece of evidence that was connected with Kayla.
After lying around gathering her thoughts Madeline realized that she didn’t hear anything. Normally, hospitals were noisy with the sounds of the many people bustling around. She pressed the call button on her bed and waited for a nurse or a doctor to come. After a couple minutes she pressed the button again when no one came.
Madeline finally decided to get herself up and check what was going on herself. She found swinging her legs over the bed to be very difficult. It felt like there were fifty pound weights attached to each of Madeline’s ankles and then noticed several small tubes were protruding from her body that she hadn’t noticed before. Pulling out the tubes was surprisingly painful and she felt exhausted after the last one come out of her arm. The woman sat still to gather up her strength and the pushed herself out of the bed. When her legs hit the floor they instantly gave out. Madeline hit the floor with a grunt. Her legs felt like there were millions of tiny needles prickling her skin. The feeling slowly went away and she gained feeling back in her legs.
Madeline steadily raised herself again and took slow, small, steps towards the door. She poked her head out the door and looked down both ends of the hallway. There were no signs of life. Madeline suspected that the power was out because there were no signs of any televisions, computers, or any type of machinery to be working. The lights were out as well making the hospital’s only source of light the sun coming through the few windows in each patient’s room.
“Hello!” Madeline called out. “Is anybody here?” Only silence answered her. She stepped out the door and proceeded down the hall. There were papers strewn throughout the long hall. As Madeline slowly stepped down the hall she spotted an elevator and then realized she would have to be taking the stairs because the power was out. Before proceeding down the stairs Madeline found the garment she wore to be uncomfortable and went behind on of the desks in search of anything to wear. After search for a couple of minutes she found a nurse’s uniform. After changing she felt like she wouldn’t have to be embarrassed if someone saw her.
If anyone sees me. This place is a ghost town.
At the end of the hall was a door that led to the stairway. Since the stairs only led to the floors below that meant Madeline was on the top floor. She groaned at the thought of descending countless floors before reaching the bottom level. Her feet slowly shuffled towards the first step. The descending of the stairs was going to be a slow process because Madeline’s legs were still weak. She used the railing to support herself with each step and to keep her from falling down. It felt like hours before Madeline reached the final step of her descent. She leaned against the door, leading out of the stairway, to rest briefly and wiped her long dark hair away from her face. When she stepped out into the first floor hall it was just as silent as the other floors. Not a living thing could be seen nor heard.
“Hello!” Madeline called out once again. There was still no answer.
Where did everyone go? And why was I the only one left here? She pondered to herself. Her eye caught the waiting area and saw a soda machine next to a snack vender. She realized that was the reason why her body was so weak. Who knows how long it has been since the hospital had been emptied out and who knows how long it had been since Madeline has had any source of energy in her system. She didn’t have any money so she couldn’t buy anything from the vending machines but then an idea came to her mind. Madeline took one of the chairs from the floor and, with all of the strength she currently had, thrust the leg into the front of the soda machine. She had only punctured a hole but after tearing the plastic pieces away made the hole large enough to put her hand through. She grabbed a beverage and drank it greedily, completely ignoring the fizz burning her throat. She tossed the empty can aside and reached in to grab another one. She drained the next three beverages equally as fast as the first and with them felt her strength return to her body.
Madeline turned and grabbed the chair again. She then threw it against the snack machine, shattering the display glass. She reached for whatever snack, she felt was highest in sugar and ate it quickly. After she ate a few more bags of chips and cookies Madeline eventually turned to more of her favorite foods. Madeline rushed behind the front desk to search for something and emerged with two small plastic bags. She put one bag into the other to make it more durable. Madeline then headed back to the vending machines and stuffed as much snacks and beverages into the bag as it would carry.
As she exited the hospital she looked at the name.
“Angel’s Hospital,” She whispered to herself. “I remember this place. But where is everyone?” Madeline looked around at the area around her. It felt as if someone had stopped time. There were vehicles abandoned in the middle of the street signifying that the people had to leave, quite, suddenly. “What happened here?” As if to answer her question Madeline noticed a News paper drifting towards her and she quickly picked it up. The headlines read, “VIRUS EPIDEMIC FORCES IMMEDIATE EVACUATION!”
Madeline remembered something about a virus on the News. She really hadn’t considered it being much of a threat taking into account that she was focusing on the Kayla case so intently. This wasobviously a big threat too, if it forced cities to evacuate.
But why was I left behind? The question hung heavily over her. She wondered if anyone else had been left behind and was also lost somewhere. She decided to start by her house first to prepare herself and then look for any other people still in the city that may have been left behind like her.
Her house wasn’t too far from the hospital only about several blocks away. When Madeline finally reached her house she didn’t even bother with the front door. She picked up a nearby rock and flung it through one of the front windows.
I can’t believe I’m breaking into my own house. Madeline thought to herself as she climbed through the broken window into her bedroom. She lived alone in a pretty decent house she rented when she moved to the area to join Section Thirteen. Most of her boxes still remained unpacked because the case took much of her attention and the fact that she really didn’t spend time here much. So Madeline spent less time scavenging through her house to find what she needed.
“Transportation…” Madeline thought aloud. She was pretty sure her car had been totaled in the collision and it wasn’t likely that someone fixed it up and placed the vehicle in her garage but she checked anyway. The car wasn’t there but a motored scooter was sitting off in the corner. She hadn’t ridden it in a while but Madeline hoped it still worked. She raced to her kitchen and opened the refrigerator. A fetid smell came from the foods inside and overwhelmed her. She slammed the door closed. Madeline didn’t have any canned food because she had just moved in.
Thunk!
A noise from a room farther in the house sounded. Fear started to rise in Madeline’s throat at the thought of a stranger in her house. She stood in place, frozen, until she saw a black figure turn the corner from the hallway. Madeline turned to run but slammed into another figure similar to the first. She looked up and saw that the figure was a person covered in black clothes except for the red lenses from his or her gas mask. Madeline felt herself get weak again and then all went black.

Madeline was abruptly awakened by a splash of water thrown at her face.
“Wake up.” A low demanding voice could be heard as Madeline tried to open her eyes. She awoke to find herself in a darkly lit room with a single dangling lamp light overhead and her hands were bound to the chair she sat in.
“Where am I?” Madeline asked confused.
“That doesn’t matter at the moment. I’m sure you remember September 6th.” Madeline stayed quiet knowing that this person was only confirming a fact he already knew. “It was the day you took up the assignment that you’ve been working so diligently on.”
Is he talking about the Kayla case?
“You mean was working so diligently on. I’ve been removed from that assignment.”
“Oh, really? Then what were you doing with this?” The man held up the bag with the crow in it.
“That’s from a different investigation.”
“I probably would believe you otherwise but we found your escort. His kind of death is only something that can be done from Kayla. So that leaves me to believe that you did something to provoke her like digging up this dead crow. There’s dirt all over it and it’s soaked which meant that it was probably buried outside.”
“What do you want?”
“We are conducting an important experiment. Your investigation is hindering that. We tried giving you a warning but you only killed our men.” Madeline could hear the man load a handgun, pulling the hammer back. “We won’t tolerate any delays.”
“Wait! I just have to know one thing.” The man’s silence let Madeline know that he was allowing her to speak. “Is there another one?”
“Another what?”
“A person just like Kayla? Are there two of them?”
“Don’t be absurd. There’s only--” Suddenly the man clutched his heart and blood came seeping from his mouth. He then collapse to the floor not moving. Madeline could only make out a dark shadow in the doorway that led into the room and then it faded away. She quickly tried getting herself free but found that she was handcuffed. A pair of keys glinted from the single lamp and Madeline reached out with her foot to slide them towards herself. After pulling on the keys she saw that they were attached to the man’s belt loop.
Oh, God this is insane. Madeline mentally whispered to herself and then tipped the chair over. She hit the ground with a loud clang but Madeline could feel the keys at her finger tips. She pulled at them and started fumbling with the keys until she unlocked the handcuffs. Madeline quickly jumped to her feet and grabbed the man’s handgun.
The damp hall outside of the room was just as dark. Madeline swung out with her gun pointed in down the longest hall and she saw the shadow at the end.

the first song still needs some editing done to it. so the intro is a little ruff. but yeah the pic is more or less a leak to what may happen in the coming chapters.

CHAPTER 11
Madeline swung out with her gun pointed in down the longest hall and she saw the shadow at the end dart around a corner. With her heart pounding in her ears Madeline made her way down the corridor quickly until she reached the corner that the shadow went around. It didn’t help that the halls were poorly lit to find hardly anything that could be hiding in the dark corners. There was a door right around the corner she just turned and Madeline opened it. The room was a small office area but there was a person standing in the opposite corner.
“W-who are you?” The woman was cowering in fear but the fact that she held a gun made Madeline cautious not to make any sudden moves.
“I’m Madeline. Tell me, what is this place?”
“Wait, you’re the one that they just brought in. You brought her here with you! I saw her murder that man. It‘s all your fault!” The woman pointed the gun towards Madeline.
“Hold on, I don’t have a clue what’s going on here!”
“You have to. That demon follows those who have a connection with her.”
She probably followed me because of the crow and this woman was probably the shadow I saw earlier. Madeline thought.
“What can you tell me about her?”
“Kayla? Besides the fact that she’s a psychopath?”
“Obviously. At least lower your gun. I’m in the same boat as you.” The woman hesitated but then finally lowered her weapon.
“Kayla is technically a freak accident.”
“How?” If Madeline wasn’t going to get any answers from Luke then hopefully this woman would. It was always better to know what people were dealing with before running headfirst into an investigation. Madeline would have to make sure that she never does that again because it would probably cost her her life.
“James wanted a B.O.W.; Bio-organic weapon. The only problem was that he didn’t have the money or the equipment to produce one. That’s when he decided to become a part of this company that specializes in developing and altering genetic structures of just about anything. We’ve always been trying to develop new species or revive extinct ones but never for violence but that was James intention. He secretly took some of our experiments and used of his own accord. He eventually came up with something and founded a genetic structure that resembled some type of psychokinetic freak. The only obstacle was that this being had to be developed from scratch and be born like a human. He found some woman that offered to take part in his sick experiment. Of course she had all sorts of problems during her pregnancy and was hospitalized several times. When the baby was born she died of course. People say that it was Kayla’s first killing and that she did it on purpose. By this time James was caught and kicked out of the organization for his actions but since his experiment was technically a success then we kept Kayla and studied her for several years. Other people somehow caught word of what her potential was and soon there were offers for the girl to be their own walking weapon. The girl was abused and hardened to what she is now. A killing machine.” The woman sat down at the desk.
“What happened to James?” The woman shrugged.
“He disappeared shortly after he was kicked out.”
“Do you think that it’s possible that he tried making another B.O.W.?”
“I hope not. I really don’t know where he would get his resources but these days anything is possible.”
“One more quick question. How did Kayla end up in an asylum?”
“It’s seemed like the ideal place to keep her that way her mind didn’t have much to wonder off on. The only problem was that we wanted to try to get the girl to be human like. She wouldn’t speak, eat, nor drink so we tried to change that through behavioral therapy. It obviously did nothing.”
“And then she broke free and is on a killing rampage. An automated voice came on through the overhead speakers in the room, making both woman jump.
“The self-destruct mechanism has been activated. All personal evacuate immediately. This is not a drill…The self-destruct…” The male voice continued to repeat the warning and Madeline had a feeling that Kayla had something to do with this.
“We have to get out of here.” Madeline stated. “You know the way out don’t you?” The woman nodded.
“What if she’s out there?” Madeline thought about the possibility of Kayla lying in wait for a line of victims who are only trying to escape. There was a chance that she could be right outside the door Madeline came through earlier but there was also a possibility that Kayla had already come and gone.
And she if she wanted to kill me then she would have when she killed that other guy.
“I think that if she wanted us dead then she would have done so already.” Madeline said hoping it sounded more reassuring than she felt.

The classic twisted experiment gone wrong. Always one of my favourite types of topics but now, you must make it even more unique Vincent. Delve deeper into the reasons why James wanted to make such a weapon in the first place. Describe the horrid conditions Kayla endured and the resulting outcome of such a life. I really want to see things from Kayla's point of view ^-^ and see what she thinks. Is she killing all these peoples just because she hate humans? Or because she's different from them? Oh, this is exciting to read and I can't wait to see how you'll polish it up.
Btw, some of your sentences needs some refining. For ex.
It didn’t help that the halls were poorly lit to find hardly anything that could be hiding in the dark corners
But it's just some minor tweaks. Anyway, keep up the great work. :3

thanks. actually in the next chapter i'll delve a little deeper into how Kayla thinks. I won't be doing a Kayla point of view until later. but also in the next chapter James is explained a lot more. actually a lot of things are explained a lot more. i got an hour drive followed by an hour train ride so i'll be doing writing, if not all, most time. but thank you for your insight. will take in account all your advise.
