Whiteshadow - I remember you saying you know Jake and the guys at GPUSA personally, perhaps you would be willing to meet me there sometime so we can discuss holding a tournament there. I'm sure they would be more open to a $5 venue fee if someone they knew personally was telling them it would help draw more people to a tournament. Also, we could take a long, hard look around the venue and determine the best spot to set up for a tournament. IMO, we would really reasonably only need 4 of the ASUS-EVO monitors set up, and I'm confident I could run each tourney in about 2 hours with 4 stations.
As far as the setups GPUSA provides, I'm saying people could casual there, so HD lag should be less of an issue during casual. Also, when Jian and I went there, we played SCIV for 1/2 hour on one of their stations with no lag. Also, having talked briefly to Jake about bringing our own setups, he made mention of the store having about 5-7 tube TV's available for players as well. That's a goodly amount of stations we could theoretically set up for casual.
I'm just trying to get something new and exciting going here in the community, guys. There are myriad reasons why GPUSA would be a great new venue to possibly hold monthlies at. However, it seems people want to focus on negatives. Let's work on solutions instead! I'm all for paying only $5 for the venue, but this is new to GPUSA as well, so we're just trying to work things out so that everybody wins. I'm well aware of the cost of traveling, etc. and I'm doing what I can to keep the cost of players down, but I'm just relaying to you guys what has *tentatively* discussed. If some of you wanted to get on the GPUSA Facebook page and express interest in attending a tournament there, but also make your concerns about venue fee and setups/space known in a respectful manner, it would go a long way in helping get another venue going for the community as a whole.
Just jump on the GPUSA Facebook, tell em' you're an SC player from 8WR, and you've heard about a possible tourney being held there. Tell them you're intrigued, but express your legitimate concerns and let's get a healthy discussion going with their staff/ownership. It wouldn't take long, you'd be helping me a great deal, and the more of you that take the time to do this, the more they will come to realize that there is a large, dedicated FG scene in their area. Surely they wouldn't deny the will and wisdom of so many players and potential customers. You have to cater to your target demographic, so show them you guys are serious about your local FG community. Thanks.
