Nightmare Video Thread

I am a 63% win Nightmare, but am still a beginner. Here are some random matches in ranked. Any feedback is nice :)

Personally I give no feedback on wins, or singular videos. Feedback is given to people that are struggling in a specific area...and I need more than one video to analyze.

I see. Well I do have many loss videos, maybe I can post those; see what I'm doing wrong.

My weakest points are fighting against people that turtle I don't know what to open them up with when I don't have the life lead 22a doesn't help when it starts to get punished and 22aa just gets JG

Only way those moves are punished is on whiff. Maybe play turtle style yourself? Trading gauge damage with Nightmare is in your favor.

Congrats on the tourney win. Good shit!

Your problem is very easy to fix, basic NM 1o1. You don't throw enough. Yes, this is a different game from SC4...turtling is way weaker. But it's still an effective strat against NM.

Block + Punish = profit.

In SC4 NM had this simple problem where he couldn't open anyone up without throwing. And to boot his Guard Crush damage was pathetic.

In 5, his throws were nerfed because he's still very much a throw/mid character, but his whiff punish game is faster thus more prevalent than it was in 4. And because of how unsafe movement is, it really benefits NM's anti step. However, most NM players forget his throw/mid game is still his biggest pressure tool. (I don't mean flapjack throws)

So I say to you, throw more and work on your guard crush game, particularly against turtlers. Characters that excel at punishing NM, need only block, most veteran players know this.

You don't have to change your style, but every player and every match up requires different strategy. I myself employ a variety of styles with my NM for different match ups and to counter certain styles.

Flapjack WS B mix-up. Try more of that.

When you enter GS, throw/mid>flapjack/mid unless you're looking for a ringout. Flapjacks are strongest from a neutral position. Where you can take advantage of their i19 speed.

88B can't be punished by most of the cast, is obnoxiously hard to step, and works the guard gauge.

There's also 4A+B cancels into throw or flapjack. Keev seems to be a fan of those.
