SCV- New CHARACTER ideas

And "Soul Edge did it" Is a legitimate reason? Soul Edge is responsible for all kinds of stuff that isnt realistically possible but we just roll with it.
If it weren't for the swords, there wouldn't even be a story. Yet alone a proper title.

The swords are the main focus of Soulcalibur. The people are just in the middle of it.

Just because it's a plot point doesnt mean the magical powers it grants are any more legitimate than people having them for no reason. With writing that lazy why is it so hard to believe that soul edge could turn someone into a magical sorcerer? You said you wouldnt like it for characters to have them "for no reason", well now there's a reason. Soul Edge did it, and that's all you need. It's all the series has ever done since the beginning.

Cassandra's is obviously exaggerated, and probably used from anime and comedic influences. Raphael.....I say exaggerated, but if he wants to practice vampirism go right head.

I consider them to be extra, somewhat exaggerated kinks to attract players to the series.
Thanks. I thought Raph's wasn't all that exaggerated but seeing how it's just an illusion and how the wounds he suffered from Soul Edge made him think he's a vampire, I'll just say he can go ahead and practice vampirism or act delusional and think he's a vampire.

But even having a "weaponless sorcerer" would take away what the main description of this series is: being a "weapon-based 3d fighting game", which is what makes this series stand out compared to others. SC shouldn't have to be like Blazblue to make the series better, and even with Viola and ZWEI, it still isn't like Blazblue.

I don't know. He may be a vampire at this point. Stupid, compared to his debut, but it defined his character i guess.

But it's still fantasy (if Nightterror, Abyss, and the flying dragons in Nightmare's stage were any indication), regardless if it's concentrated on SoulCalibur and Soul Edge or not. In fact, hasn't the series been referenced as a "historical fantasy?" As far as I'm concerned, everything supernatural/fantasy still relates to the swords..
Night Terror and others are demons, they also get the boss card for that argument. Whereas the Protagonist/Antagonist groups are and always were supposed to be historically based or culturally referencable which ZWEI is nothing of that sort. They werent the supernatural ones of the series, Cassandra isnt anything magical she jsut fights because she's good at it. The only relationships the heroes have with the super powers are only in small hints if they are associated with prayer or healing.

In other words if they're demons or bosses, then there are exceptions to the "rule" that anything supernatural must relate to the swords? So if ZWEI and Viola were bosses, would that be more accepting? Also, according to you and other players, Night Terror and such should not have been considered at all. I'm sure a gruff veteran knight who commands an army would have been much more accepting as a boss than them, right? It may be an overused concept, but it'll be closer to the "realistic" view SoulCalibur should be restricted to.

I may not favor ZWEI and Viola, but they have just as much a right to be in SoulCalibur like anyone else. Complaining about them over their weapons seems like pointless bitching.

If they were bosses they'd be inhuman demons or god-like super humans. Regardless other then algol no one fights outside the swordsman rule.

No. Night Terror is the accumulation of the sword's complete power and its a given he'd be the way he looks but the fact is, he is all demon not a human with summoning powers. Its like a Zombie game, Zombies are super natural alterations of the normal society, flying zombies from a different dimention would be breaking the barrier betweeen plausable and unfitting.

It isnt pointless bitching, its showing proof that some sections of the fanbase are actually following the series atmospherically. If I had a better example I'd give it but compare ZWEI to Persona characters or Bleach Shinigami. Then compare that to Soul Calibur or Samurai shodown. There IS a wall in between what would fit well and unnoticable compared to what stands out for the wrong reasons.

Which is why you give him a weapon like a staff, besides "weapon" is a vague term when anything can technically be one. Even ZWEI and Viola use them. Despite the claw being an accessory she uses it like a weapon. Steel claws being far from harmless.

Her spiked glove isnt a primery tool of hers nor is it even barely considered or a masterable style. ZWEI's weapon is his long sword. EIN breaks the rule of the character's standard limitations within the game's basic description.

Well if a CAS can fight exactly the same without them then they are harmless ;)

Also why just magic? Lets go with something bigger: shapeshifting, telekinesis, elasticity.
Actually the last one is my favorite, a character using a dagger who can stab you from miles away.

The fact that something can be used in combat in the real world doesn't make it a weapon possibility for the series. You've probably heard that weapons are extensions of the human body, and if you've ever held a sword or fired a gun you know it's true. If you cut a watermelon with a sword you'd say "I cut the watermelon", not "The sword cut the watermelon", just the same way you say "I'm gonna turn right" and not "I will make this car turn right". The Soul Calibur series operates under this principle, and making a character that doesn't follow it feels odd. This is the reason why Viola feels out of place to most people.

If you consider the reason why each move has it's corresponding input you'll notice that it matches the animation. For instance, consider Hwang (or Leixia if you're new): A very simple style in which the character holds his sword with his right hand. The right button (X or square) moves the right hand to the left (and therefore the sword as well) and pushing it again brings it back (causing a second hit). The top button does the same but downwards from the top. The left button -which is the opposite to the hand in which the sword is held- triggers an attack that doesn't involve the weapon. The bottom button -located closer to the player- brings the sword closer to the character in a defensive position. And the left trigger (which feels like you're grabbing when you press it) makes the character grab the enemy with his left hand. Once the most intuitive way of projecting the player's thoughts in the game through the representation he chose (the selected character) is created, the rest of the characters are modeled after it to make all of them feel like they all belong to the same group.

So just keep this in mind when sharing your ideas.

Its not like Zwei and Viola are casting fireballs out there. Zwei is what Cervantes would be if he used his gun more, and he does use his gun quite a bit anyway. Viola smacks you around with a floating orb and claws, like i said shes not casting fireballs.

The only people who make these rules (like your boss and swordsman rules) seem to be players themselves, not Project Soul. As such, they do not need to restrict themselves to realistic weapons. Besides, I don't understand how two characters that still technically use conventional weapons (Viola's claw and ZWEI's sword) "break the series's atmosphere," despite countless other characters who wield more realistic weapons.

To be honest, every aspect of this series seems fantasy, from the movements to weapons to the fighting. Sig's and Nightmare's swords are definitely fantasy, because they would likely die using them in battle (a zweihandler isn't made for that type of combat), Taki/Natsu jump by superhuman means, Talim's somersaulting in midair, Pyrrha's 22_88BAK has her ascending/spinning in the air like an angel, Setsuka/Setsdude move so fucking fast, Cervantes flying with moves like 4A+B, etc, etc, etc. With SoulCalibur already being fantasy, what does it matter if they made a few characters who are more "honestly fantastic" than others?

Btw Your ZWEI example seems very opinionated rather than being an actual comparison. Samurai Shodown is not SoulCalibur and that atrocity known as "Samurai Shodown Zen" needs to be erased from everyone's mind. And as far as characters like Night Terror goes, he is STILL fantasy no matter how he's conceived in the story.

We are discussing ideas. I suggested quite a few character/style ideas. Bangoo and Riki being two of them.

these.....

I like the idea of having a Zulu warrior, an Arabian warrior, a Scottish or Irish warrior and/or an Aztec warrior (why weren't these characters added in the game) but I think I can add some other warriors in there also.

* A Rajput warrior from India: The Rajput uses katars like Voldo (maybe a replacement for Voldo perhaps) as well as a whip sword (not like the one Ivy has), or a straight bladed sword.

* A Mongol Warrior: Maybe this character could be a descendant of Genghis Khan but as far as weapons are concerned, I think either a Mace and Ild Sword combo would suit the character.

* Siamese or Khmer Warrior: This one is farfetched but I can imagine seeing this character use twin sickles and having a Muay Thai weapon based move set.

*Maori Warrior: This character would more than likely use a Shark Tooth Club or a spear, and one of his throws or grabs is where he or she bites you on either your arms or legs.

*Russian Noble: Okay, we have a French Noble (Raphael) but this one should have ties to Ivan The Terrible or be one of his henchmen, The Oprichniki and the weapon should be a long saber or a long cleaver.

*Tibetan Assassin: Now this character would have a lot of range to deal with: twin daggers, a Khadga (Fire Sword), and a Flying Guillotine. The character story is probably going to revolve around being in a lineage of assassins who have fought against Chinese military and eunuchs.

*Spanish Conquistador: Yes, I know we have a character from Spain but think about a young Hernan Cortes with a flexible sword and halberd (he can switch weapons after every round).

So those are my character ideas.
an Assyrian character with a an assyrian sickle sword (sappara)

Yohannan is our family name. Most Assyrian first names were originated from the bible. idk though in ancient times.

My grandfathers name is Khamu Yohanan

also most modern assyrian names are associated with some russian influence.
EX: cousins have Yakob/Yakov/Yakhof as a last name, which is "Jacob"

Yosip = Joeseph.
Maryam = Mary
Gahbrel = Gabriel
Eesho = Jesus
Geewrges = George
Pileepoos = Phillip
Shimoon = Simon
Andreeoos = Andrew
Yakhoo = James (Kamu is also a variation)
Meteu/Matehee = Matthew
Baartooma = Bartholomew
Yookhena = John
Pootroues = Peter
Yehooda = Judas
Aday = Thadeus
Mooshee = Moses
Owrraahim = Abraham
Nookh = Noah
Adam = Adam (The second A is more stressed like Adaam)
Khaawaa = Eve

Interesting/fun stuff: http://www.learnassyrian.com/aramaic/
It also helps with pronounciation if you dont know =)

bottom one is cool.

i figured the style can work like using the "hook"part to trip and grab the opponent. Unfortunately, this would be kinda like zasalamel's style.........

if possible can he/she speak modern Aramaic? its a rare language. My family speaks it.

chicago university made a dictionary for the ancient aramaic also....

The assyrian people were called the "lords of massacare" in ancient times.

More physical structures:

....are all excellent ideas too.

Other weapons I noted in a post somewhere:

  • Dual Sliding Sword, or a Dual Ended Sword (I think a Dual Sliding Sword could be pretty inventive, especially for Leixia)
  • Wave Swords (Revenant's weapon on SC3)
  • Melon Hammer (or Melon Hammers)
  • Nagamaki (Will probably be Xiba's weapon)
  • Tsukubo
  • Kama, or a Sickle
  • Wire claws (Sima Yi's DW6 weapon)
  • Umbrella (lol)
  • Kusarigama (will probably have the kama included)
  • Tessen Fan (I would like to see a large one (for more further distance) with a Jutte as the secondary weapon for up close)
  • Bladed Bow
But I guess "Deadliest Warriors-like" characters aren't good enough for this series, while fantasy characters are good enough *shrugs and rolls eyes*

I know they aren't new, but Ashlotte and Kamikirimusi had a great design. They have great weapons, and should at least be given new styles. A bit redundant, I know, but still, some bonus characters should at least be taken further. Like Lynette(that's just me talking) and Revenant.

Hey, maybe we should add in a character that can summon meteors and can do 100 damage tech traps with them. Then a gimmicky telekinesis character that wins by doing force push and his CE just flips the opponents controls so he can have a feel for controlling minds. Can't forgot a nercomancer. He fights with a bladed wand and all of his brave edges summon undead minions that get in the opponent's way and soak up to 45 damage while allowing up to 4 on the screen at once so he can just sit back without fighting himself. But wait, there's more! How about a that can control water so on every stage that has water ringouts they can do an unblockable i30 CE that traps the opponents in a ball of water then crushes them for 240 damage. Man that sounds awesome!

Whiny snip

Sounds like you're more worried about them being over powered, than them fitting the game...Which isnt a suprise since you still believe Siegy is so terrible (which he isnt) while Viola is arguably the best. But dont let your prejudice get in the way of the series, being fantasy =/= being an OP character.
