I'm just making the point that he still sucks compared to most characters. Let's not start the Rock vs. Asteroth
 
As I said, I'm new to the game and have only two friends who really know their characters(Amy and Siegfried).

There are no tournaments or other serious competitions in my country so I can only assume things of online play.

I haven't played against a good Hilde, that is correct, where can I play against good opponents? Online is, as far as I know, my online option.

I also don't know the basic style of at least half the characters because I mostly see Kiliks only.

However, if you(Impemding_Doom66) could show me what you are talking about, I have more info and could present a tier-list wich is based on more facts. I even have a headset and I assume that you have a PS3.
So if you like, you could show me how very, very, very wrong I am.

This is why I'm trying to find forums about Soul Calibur IV. To improve my gameplay against people who know their characters instead of playing against random people online.

By "Friendly", Plume means "Player Match". The better offline players go to Player Match.

Ranked is good for speedy matchmaking and forcing you to adapt to an opponent quickly, but that's about it.

Hey, I take offense to that.

But, on a serious note, I don't find many good Hilde players. Before SCIV came out, I though she would be a fan favorite and be played a lot and be broken. Now that it's out, I rarely see a Hilde player.
 
That's because most people online have no idea about Hilde's charge combos, and she's not a character who you can press random button combinations and see instant result for. (Like, say, Sophie.)

But, if those online scrubs decided to spend, like, a solid hour in Training mode with Hilde, we'd see a surplus of Ring Out monsters overnight.
 
Online scrubs? I feel like I should really take offense to that, but know what you're talking about. And how good is Hilde's RO game? I've never thought of her having that good of it.
 
Well, the main concern with fighting Hilde is that you could randomly find yourself rung out at almost any time for making even the slightest "mistake" (and in some cases, it's not even a mistake, but a wrong guess). She requires very little setup for what could amount into an instant win. In other words, she'd be perfect for scrubs who don't like effort.

By 'Most characters', I think he means characters such as the Twins, Taki, and basically anyone who's faster than him. While he has a good backstory, as a fighter, he lacks in speed, which is what he needs. Power-wise, he's not lacking.

I will write a short opinion about all the characters in order of the current tier-list on page one. Then I will write a tier-list as I think it should be. I haven’t seen much of some characters because most people choose Mitsurugi or Kilik online, but I have played as and against all of the characters.
I main Taki so maybe she has more trouble with other characters than, in example, Nightmare.


Cassandra: I think she should be one tier lower due to short range. She’s still very quick but I don’t get a feeling that she’s one of the best characters in the game. I haven’t seen any great combo’s or cheap moves that I couldn’t evade or block.

Sophitia: She’s easy to use. She doesn’t look fast(maybe because I use Taki) but her attacks mostly land earlier then yours. What if two players use Sophitia? Than again, I think she’s mostly annoying than skillfull.

Yoshimitsu: What a strange character. I have rarely seen a Yoshimitsu player but from what I know he can do some bizarre attacks. I’ll trust you on this one that he should be top tier.

Voldo: I was once destroyed by Voldo. He spammed a unblockable attack that has insane range and couldn’t be evaded with sidesteps because it auto-target the other player. Maybe I’m a n00b against Voldo but he could definitely be top-tier.

Algol: I have barely seen someone who uses Algol. I think he’s toptier because of his shootingskills?

Setsuka: I secretly like Setsuka, the way she fight that is. Despite that stupid umbrella and her non-armor look(I think you should fight with armor but that’s a story for another time). I tried to play as Setsuka but I don’t seem to do any combo’s or other things that require skill. I think she’s a difficult character and should be a tier lower.

Kilik: A easy character to use and has decent range and speed. I haven’t seen any Kilik players that are actually good though.

Mitsurugi: I hate this guy. Anyway, I think he should be top tier because of his strong and fast attacks.

Siegfried: Long range and not that slow. He’s on the right tier I believe.

Amy: She’s short and very fast. Despite her short range she is a easy character to use and can use some annoying stun-combo’s.

X: Who the hell is this?

Hilde: Are you joking? She should be mid tier at max because she’s slow and her sword/lance style doesn’t work out all great. Her lance attacks can mostly be evaded.

Cervantes: He should be top tier. He can do a stuncombo wich will damage 40% of your healtbar when it’s full. Maybe you can prevent that combo or escape during it but I have not seen that happening.

Taki: Should definitely go up a tier. She can match the speed with Amy/Sophitia etc.(I know). Can ring-out people quick and has decent range.

Lizardman: Have seen lizardman only once online and ranked. I don’t like the sword and shield style(or axe and shield) and he isn’t as fast as Cassandra. But I could be wrong about him/it.

Ivy: Could be a tier up because she has a lot of grab attacks or attack-throws. She is slow though but has decent range.

The Apprentice: Same as lizardman, he looks like a mix of Yun and Taki but he doesn’t seem to have any great attacks or combo’s. Atleast, not that I have seen.

Raphael: Why is he bottom mid? Not as fast as Amy but could still do quick attacks and combo’s.

Nightmare: Should not be bottom mid. He’s almost the same as Siegfried. Great range and damage.

Tira: I rarely see Tira on ranked online matches. I think she isn’t good but you could win with Tira because she fights…differently than most characters. Element of surprise.

Astaroth: Should be at least one tier up because of his insane range and damage.

Maxi and Yun: They are both quick but most of their attacks can be blocked without a great difficult. I was still destroyed by both of them once but that could be just me.

Zalasamel: I don’t agree with him being bottom tier. He has some quick attacks despite his great scythe. He can do some combo’s(or more) and it’s difficult(for me) to see where his attacks will land(up, mid, low).

Mina: If I look back at Soul Calibur 2, she was quite good…now she is much slower and also slower than Kilik.

Talim: Very short range but could be a tier up.

Rock: I once was chaingrabbed 16 times when playing against Rock. He can throw you when you are on the ground and when you land, he can throw you again. I don’t know how to escape this because I only have seen this once but if you can evade this…than what will Rock do?

Vader: He can do a weird block-counter move but if you know this than you can do much more damage to him than he will ever do to you. Oh, and he’s SLOW.

Yoda: I don’t even want to talk about this guy. No offence to people who like Star Wars.

This is what I know at the moment. I could be wrong about some characters because I haven’t seen them a lot on ranked play. Maybe you could show me some examples?

So here’s my tierlist:

Top: Sophie, Cervy, Mitsu, Voldo, Algol.

Upper: Cass, Kilik, Yoshi, Seig, Amy, X, Taki, Setsuka.

Mid: Lizardman, Ivy, Apprentice, Nightmare, Asta, Raph.

Bottom Mid: Zas, Raph, Tira, Maxi, Yun..

Low: Vader, Yoda, Rock, Talim.


I play the game on the PS3. My PS3 account is ‘Reffy2’. You can always add me and show me how wrong I am if I’m wrong. But beating just me isn’t going to say much about the characters. Remember, I’m not a great SC4 player, I am…fine.
This is just what I think of the characters and I want to know what other people think about the current tier-list.
