Dampierre Non-Gameplay Discussion - Oh come now. Take it easy.

I was watching the other evening the film "The Gangs of New York". In the movie I see Daniel Day Lewis's character appear in his first sence. Then I am like OMFG it's Dampierre!

Doesn't this actor from "Gangs of New York" look like SCBD/SC5 character Dampierre? He would make a great live-action Dampierre.

As I am hoping to cosplay as Dampierre in about a year from now, I have really come to appreciate the awesome complexity to his outfit. Everything from his shoes and gloves to the designs on his hat. There was a lot of work put into his appearance, probably more so than any other character. It is especially apparent in some of his concept art, which depicts him even more awesome than he is in the actual games (it also makes him look quite a bit older; has anyone else noticed how young Dampierre actually looks in game? He looks 18). Would love to have a figurine or something of this guy. He is the classiest character in all of fighting games.

I figure I should post this here incase anyone else has experienced it or even figured it out...

Last week something very strange happened. During my fight, Dampierre's hat turned white and started glowing.

Now this is not a joke and I was not hallucinating. My wife was there with me and she saw it too.

I didn't pull out a camera to take a picture because I figured it would show up in the replay. Strangely it did not, the replay showed it as if nothing happened.

I don't remember exactly at what point in my match it changed color, so I have no idea what might have triggered it. All I know is that just the black part of the hat was now white and the hat seemed to be glowing slightly.

It could have been a graphical glitch, or perhaps a secret that the devs implementeď.

Anyways as hard as this might be to believe (I wouldn't have believed it if someone told me), it really happened and I want to know how to replicate it because it looked insanely cool.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

Hmm. Do you think it could be related to that white flash that occurs when you select a specific part of a character to customize in creation?

None of Dampierre's areas can be selected in CaS sadly.

Sadly I doubt it's something the devs put in, could be a graphical glitch like you mentioned OOF.

But then again...why his hat...?

Honestly I was so focused and playing so well that match and landing B!E! so consistently that when I noticed it happening I thought that it was some secret "Super Saiyan" type of effect that the devs implemented to let you know that you're doing good with him lol.

Dunno what else to say about it except that I was in the torture chamber stage and fighting Cervantes, if that even matters at all.

It's been bugging me since I've seen it. I'm gonna try tweeting Daishi about it, although the fact that it didn't happen when I played back the replay gives me little hope of it being anything other than a graphical glitch.

But like you said; why only his hat??

Yeah I saw this movie the other day and the entire time I thought of Dampierre every single time Bill the Butcher appeared. I even had to go ahead and make two CAS of Bill the Butcher, using Dampierre's moveset of course.

I am now convinced that Dampierre's appearance is at least loosely inspired by this character. If they ever make a live action SoulCalibur, I hope Lewis gets the role. His acting in Gangs of New York was incredible. I watched the movie just for him and he was all I liked about it too.

Specifically I feel the resemblance is stronger in this outfit. The similarities are not so high that Dampierre seems uninspired. Either way he is a really creative design. If anything I appreciate it even more having seen the film.

I figured you SCBD/SC5 Dampierre players would appreciated when I pointed out this similarity to Mr. Lewis character to SC's Dampierre. ;)

Yes it would have been great if he did. I figured you fans would start making SC5 CAS "Bill The Butcher" using soul of Dampierre. ;)

I did just make a Watson with aPat style not too long ago, I will try to make Bill the Butcher soon xD

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but an interesting thing that I've only just noticed now; if you have voices set to english and taunt while fighting Hilde, Dampierre will say "Please, hear Le Bello's Story!", which is what he says during his Critical Finish in Broken Destiny!

Didn't know that before o-o I'm going to do that right now xD

I'm pretty sure he said "Please listen to my tale" in BD but it's close enough I guess.

Does Damp have some kind of history with Hilde? I didnt play BD to be honest also whats the deal of him saying "Now lets see whats under that disguise?" to Pyrrha and I think he says that to other ppl too

He's a perv who wants to see under her disguise, what more is there to say? :P

As for "Please, listen to my tale", it's part of his Critical Finish (finishing move). Normally every character's critical finish is some crazy attack that sends them flying, but Dampierre's was a story about his sick daughter and how he needs money for her. It ends with the opponent giving Dampierre a gold coin and then crying from his sad story. You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=FisaiqltBH4#t=38s

In BD Dampierre and Hilde knew each other before the events of the story take place. Hilde thought he was an annoying perv and con artist but Dampierre insists that he wishes to help her, Cassandra and the player get the ridiculous potion or whatever. The story isn't canon but I guess they're just acknowledging the game with the taunt.

As for Phyrra, I'm guessing Dampierre "likes" her and his win pose speaks for itself.

Dampierre a pervert? Why, I would never have guessed xP and thanks guys, cant help my curiosity
