I have to agree. Knowing some of the personalities in here as well as the fact that 90% of us are just grateful to know that something is alive, to come with such an instigatory comment in a clearly public setting truly defeats the concept of simply ignoring something. In similar fashion, you could have ignored what you think is unoriginal and let us keep our positivity and morale up.

Thank you.
To be honest, I knew a reboot was coming anyways, but I just don't see this being another MK9-MKX, where they reboot the game from 3D era, timeskip with next generation characters, and then lead to a sequel with returning and better looking 3D era characters.

This is definitely being retconned.

I would at least be okay with the SCV new characters having the possibility of returning and being better and developed than ever. Will Bamco do that? No. They more than likely would have if it was a Western developed fighting game.

My standards are very high now with Eastern games after playing MKX, and Injustice 2. Project Soul needs to set the bar higher, especially with this retcon. I need to see, not only the SCV characters being mentioned, but the single player content this time.

You can always pretend. o3o
You know what is weird, I googled images of them and I did not immediatly find porn art of them. Weird, right?

Main thing I wanna know rn is if my opponents are gonna keep screaming when I kick them after they die
Probably... why not, right?

It's kind of hard to build hype by continuing from a game like SCV. This was probably their best move they could've made.
Indeed, and its even better if its not just SC1.

Alright, and people in this thread since the mid-200-page mark have consistently brought this up, multiple times, and in multiple variants, and have discussed it. This comment is very valid and is how you should have introduced your opinion, as the way you chose was a bit . . . dangerous, to put it respectfully.

I'll take that mistake, but when someone tries to take a jab, I jab back. For future reference.

So I guess the Greece theme being a remake of Sophitia's SC1 theme really does cement this being a retelling of SCI.

Before somebody says "Can't be because [insert X leaked character] is in", just remember that you can do whatever you want in a reboot regarding ages and placement (Talim, Tira, or even Viola can all exist in this universe's version of SCI). You also have to remember that not everything Vergeben said is true or accurate. He said there was a Switch port, no X1, and that this game took place after SCV, none of which we have seen to be true. There's also the fact that not a single veteran character named by Vergeben or Hayate was revealed so far (though the dual sword fighter does add some credibility).

Nintendo may be waiting to announce Switch, he never specifically said there was no Xbox One version but rather he hadn't been told if there is one, that he only guessed it wasn't a reboot based on what he heard, and the last point isn't fair because we've only seen all of two returning characters.

We must remember our game lore allows the developers to literally have paradoxes if needed. Heck, you can enter the Astral Plane and appear 500 years later or earlier if the game story needs it because, hey, Astral Plane!

What platform are you guys getting this game?
I'm getting it on PC. Tekken 7 was amazing on PC and is declared the best version of the game. I would expect the same thing for SC6
Definitely PC for me. I bought a PC version of Tekken 7 for the sole reason it would encourage Namco to port SC6 to PC in case it ever got announced.

EDIT: Though if it were to come out on Switch i guess i'd buy that too.

I would really love to see the SC5 characters brought to their full potential (only Patroklos and Pyrrha are truly close to irredeemable, but its still doable), but if it doesn't happen in this game, it doesn't mean it will never happen. The thing is that the new generation was brought in a very bad way, they simply removed the original characters and gave slightly changed versions of their movesets to characters that didn't bring much more than different personalities (Leixia didn't bring even that), so people didn't have time or a story to bond with them like they did with the veterans and they felt like bad replacements.

You can't blame Namco for trying to appease their playerbase, and bringing back the old stories (which are quite obscure, because of the multiple arcade endings) is a good way to not only work on appeasing the players, but also to flesh out the story of old characters and even setup the new ones in a better way.

If it bothers you so much, consider that Viola could technically appear if they actually equate her to Amy and gave the orb to the latter and we may even see Elysium in its true form, since Inferno is also expected. But don't set your standard too high, MKX and Injustice 2 are not a rule, they are more like an exception. SC6 can still be very good without being on their level.

The trailer wouldn't have flashbacks of events in SCV if it was just a SC1 remix.
I'm thinking it's only there for thematic reasons. You see Mitsurugi preparing a powerful strike on Sophitia as she's floating helplessly in the air, then it shows story images from later games (from the time Sophitia had died in the story), but after the imagery Sophitia suddenly "powers up" and manages to fight against Mitsurugi.

That's the impression I got from the inclusion of that. It's kinda the opposite of the imagery in the first SC5 teaser trailer which suggested something bad had happened to Sophitia. And SC6's press release specifically says this is a retelling of Soulcalibur 1. But we'll see what they end up doing.

This question is inevitable in the wake of any and every new SC game, but, since we're always expecting newcomers, what kind of ethnicities/cultures and fighting styles do you think they'll touch upon for VI?

Storywise I would suggest not really putting any weight into anything prior to the game actually coming out. When Mitsurugi was introduced in SC5, it was because he heard news of his "long lost brother" which didn't lead anywhere and was quietly ret-conned at launch

Cultures and tehnicities, I don't know, but movesets...:

  • Twin fans
  • Knuckles
  • Cloth (think Rose from Street Fighter)
  • Throwing daggers
  • Poison weapon
  • Whip
  • Grieve edges
  • Naginata
  • Maybe more, but can't think about more
