Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

I can see that honestly. As I said, it helps we have CAS to create fodder characters and not have to turn established characters into jobbers.
I always hate when stories do that, bring a main character that had no reason to be there just to make filler battles. Speaking of characters, I just thought of something: how do you guys think Bonus Characters will be handled this time?

Not really, I guess this would be the time when he'd fight minor characters, maybe from the Schwarzwind, and end up killing someone he didn't want to, he'd be "invincible", until an important character came to beat some sense into him.

The times where Nightmare whoops ass and wins is when you should be paying him, the times where he loses is when you should be playing whoever his opponent is.

It can also have a lot of storytelling value in showing you his perspective.

I’m excited for the story mode a lot, and it seems the gameplay has had a lot of work done on it already. What are the predictions for he 2018 release? I am guessing since SCV was rushed, and that was like 6 months after announcement, we’re probably at he 9-10 month border??? So October?

Is there an official twitter account or way of contacting Project Soul? I would just like to ask them to bring back two characters...I know my request will likely fall on deaf ears but I figure I should at least try and let my passion be heard. I don't recommend slamming them with requests. For example Harada of Tekken is a real jackass when it comes to fans wanting certain characters back.

I follow some of Aris' streams (somewhat prominent guy in the FGC) and he's not pleased that it appears a lot of the SCV mechanics have returned. But he's pleased with the removal of GI needing meter.

I would really love to see the SC5 characters brought to their full potential (only Patroklos and Pyrrha are truly close to irredeemable, but its still doable), but if it doesn't happen in this game, it doesn't mean it will never happen. The thing is that the new generation was brought in a very bad way, they simply removed the original characters and gave slightly changed versions of their movesets to characters that didn't bring much more than different personalities (Leixia didn't bring even that), so people didn't have time or a story to bond with them like they did with the veterans and they felt like bad replacements.

You can't blame Namco for trying to appease their playerbase, and bringing back the old stories (which are quite obscure, because of the multiple arcade endings) is a good way to not only work on appeasing the players, but also to flesh out the story of old characters and even setup the new ones in a better way.

If it bothers you so much, consider that Viola could technically appear if they actually equate her to Amy and gave the orb to the latter and we may even see Elysium in its true form, since Inferno is also expected. But don't set your standard too high, MKX and Injustice 2 are not a rule, they are more like an exception. SC6 can still be very good without being on their level.
I'm going to try to be optimistic, but I better see something good to come out of this, especially with how rushed even Tekken 7 seemed outside of game play.

The idea of replacements wasn't the issue for me. It was Project Soul's pure laziness of them and their move sets, and not giving veterans a proper send off. Same applies to Tekken.

But then again, Soul Calibur has Astral Chaos, so PS can very well touch on that aspect. Will they do it? I would hope so. We still have more sequels to find that out, but I do see Hoshino in particular being in favor of the more marketable new characters instead, like the Alexandra siblings. Viola, maybe.

EDIT: oh wow. I spoke too soon. He left.

So, it's basically confirmed that Hoshino has packed his bags and left. Kind of weird that SC leaders have a high turnover rate. Harada also basically said that Okubo jumped at the opportunity to lead this, which makes sense as Okubo doesn't seem to have prior experience in Project Soul and only worked on Tekken 7.
tbh how hard is it to become/be a video game producer?? like at this point I might as well apply and I can produce SC7 considering this turnover rate lol

If we're going over SCI, what events do you think we'll see? Because they had only been referenced in the past without explaining them, I'm assuming they're taking the chance to show what happened in detail. Some things that happened:

  1. Kilik gets corrupted by the Evil Seed, and Xianglian makes the sacrifice to take it herself, forcing Kilik to kill her.
  2. Kilik sets out on a journey where he meets Maxi in India where they hold off an attack by Astaroth at the cost of his crew, which made Maxi decide to join him. Later they meet Xianghua, forming the trio.
  3. Ivy vs. Seong Mi-na - Ivy wins
  4. Taki vs. Ivy - Taki wins
  5. Sophitia vs. Rock - Draw
  6. Maxi holds off Astaroth as the trio storm Ostrheinsburg Castle, while Kilik and Xianghua defeat Nightmare and then Inferno.

Looks like my earlier comment about Hoshino leaving was right. I kind of wish I wrong considering how many directors and producers this series has gone through.

It was confirmed he left, it was as well officially stated in Soul Wiki.

Agreed since i think Hoshino did well in SCV, the only main problem in this game was the roster. To be fair, the guy didn't have enough time to prove himself. When you think about it, Harada got a bit lucky since Tekken has the many years Arcade Cycle, wonder if even Harada can handle well a straight console Project. If Tekken 8 will happen it has chances to be a Console straight game, and that would a first time ever in the franchise, gonna be interesting too how Harada and the Tekken Team are gonna handled it. (It definitely won't happen soon tho that's for sure)

And speaking about Harada he seems explaining in his last tweets that he and Tekken Team are helping PS mainly in the technical aspects of the game, that's great, i love of course Tekken but i want Soul Calibur to keep having its own identity and presentation.

Who do you think was to blame for us getting HDO, LS, US, and Pachislot instead of SCVI; Hoshino or Namco? It was easy to blame it all on Namco, but I wonder if it was all Hoshino's idea. The fact that we're getting SCVI now with a new leader makes me wonder if he only looked at making money with low effort versus the risk of making another big game.

I think those games were just a side Hobby for team, i wouldn't be surprise that many of the PS team were working on other BN games, and in which they may gained more experience in developing in the generation and with UE4. Right after SCV was release i would guess they didn't had a right idea about how SC6 should be especially after the reception SCV got from the fans, so instead of doing just nothing SC related, they did those "Testing/Not so serious" games and that at the same time make them easy money, which i would suggest most of it goes to SC6 development budget.

If that's the case i think they did great.

Definitely Namco. Around the same time as Lost Swords was happening they had Tekken Revolution, Ace Combat Infinity, and Rise of Incarnates. Namco was doing a huge push for free to play titles with many of their IPs.
