Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

If they're going to do what DOA5 did and lazily milk the playerbase dry past the point of absurdity for years and years on end instead of developing an actual new game, they can fuck off. I hope DOA5 was the exception, not the rule.

Of course they'll milk it. Soul Calibur 6 is literally re-using assets from 5 and maybe 4? I mean the Sophitia character model has the same hair and body. That's the... heh... calibre of sequel we're getting here. I'm glad we're getting 6, but this isn't a sequel built from the ground up. I would not be surprised if clothing assets from 4 or 5 were present in 6 as DLC packs. They did the same with 5, which was already starving of original CaS assets, most of which were carried over from 4.

What do you guys think the pre-order bonus will be? I'm thinking if they did like a revamped version of the SC5 pre-order costumes it'd be cool, but actually make them look good this time lol

I'd say late 2018 to early 2019. I just don't want the game to be rushed like 5 was so I want them to take thier time
I'm learning towards winter 2018.

I’d rather have a delayed release and be happy for 6 years or a quick release and sad for 6 years
This.

Like GameStop another phone call from nightmare and instead it’s a threat and I sue for pain and suffering
Hahaha! I remember Anna's voice message.

I don't think you understand. DOA5 was the literal definition of milking a game, the DLC went on for five fucking years even after most people moved on and they spent no time developing a new DOA even when it was perfectly reasonable. All of it amounted to over $2000 which consisted mostly of skimpy costumes. I pray that we don't get into a situation like that with this game.

What do you guys think the little lines/notches on the life bars mean?

I assume one of them is an indication as to when you can use your super, but there's a bunch of them. What do you think they will do?

I'm sure Namco are well aware of their effective ability to entice people into buying "aesthetically appealing" clothing for the lumpy sum of whatever they charged for the packs in the last game. Problem is, while DOA5 got milked, it mostly gave you different assets, as opposed to recycled ones. It's shit for shit, but that's something to consider with the way Namco does their Soul Calibur DLC. I have no doubt they will do the same and most of their work effort will be put into cranking out re-used assets repackaged as new content. I'd take skimpy bikinis with different patterns over a lazy import any day.

But I get it, DOA5 is a used up whore and that will probably be the case for DOA6, but Soul Calibur could be just as bad... and this is supposed to be the big refresher sequel that reboots the franchise.... and they couldn't even start from scratch. Sigh.

DOA5 had the worst season passes ever. The season pass was for costumes. I hope classic costumes are included in the game without DLC.

I'm more excited to see what kind of loot-box system we will get.

Namco doesn't do loot boxes.

I wouldn't if they'll do that after the backlash against them following Battlefront II. I guess it could work it they're cosmetic only, but given the nature of the industry I'd worry about that.

I'm not condoning DOA5's DLC practices because it definitely went on for too long... But the outfits were really, really good. Also you can't forget they added new characters and crossover characters too. I would be okay with SC doing CAS DLC with like 25 well thought out equipment pieces per pack every month for a year. Add new guest characters and some new stages for a reasonable price and I would get them too.

If they did DLC characters, I'd prefer new characters with new styles who can return in future games than guests. Like I said, get too many guests in and it becomes ridiculous.

I also notice that once your life is on the last indicator, you take less damage. Kinda like in SCV when you have less than 20 life any move that cause 20 or less damage is cuted by half. But here it seems to happen with any move. At 4:32 sophitia did 66A but did so much less damage than normal.

I agree, but the incentive to buy new characters as DLC is lower than buying already loved characters. If they were to make new characters they'd need to do what DOA5 did with theirs and market the hell out of them.

I would not put any value into anything put in the soul calibur wiki site. I have no idea who runs it but some of the content there has no basis in factual context.

In the translated NLPS book where they describe the history of the series, it was stated that Raphael defeated Nightmare outright clean. Even I don't believe this, since it always took a team effort (or Siegfried with soul calibur) to beat him. This just goes to show that even the writers may change things around as time progresses.

Landing a blow, where the opponent sneers immediately after does not equate to "defeating".
Do we have a thread with the translated NLPS on here?
