Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

If by many fans, you mean the people who come here in addition to the dipshits on the facebook page, that's unfortunate. You don't really get to decide what the fan opinions are because you need to be reminded that you exist within a particularly small enclave with very echo chamber-like qualities. While this is probably the de-facto place to come and talk about SoulCalibur, it hardly accounts for the millions of players who have purchased the game/played online. Same goes for Tekken Zaibatsu in the face of a game that has sold millions of copies. While a pillar of the community, certainly, they are not "the fans", and by extension, neither are we.

I'm certainly not going to call developers idiots when they are more aware of the situation than I am. If anything, speculating and conjuring entire realities based on virtually nothing is what will make *us* the fools. Bamco doesn't really owe us anything - not even an explanation, not even a game. It's so frustrating watching people tear Tekken 7 (In my opinion the best Tekken ever made, but coming from the standpoint of someone who is more interested in mechanics and a diverse roster versus single player content) a new one because it doesn't have a freakin' character in it. There's 36 amazing characters to choose from, each with so much to learn - I don't even miss Lei.

What was even more frustrating was watching the SoulCalibur facebook page over time. Any time there was an update that wasn't about a new SoulCalibur, there were just these rabid fucking... retards just spouting the same "wow no SC6? Fuck you guys worst company ever" over and over again, just like Rick and Morty fans in the absence of a goddamn sauce. I almost wished there was never an SC6, out of spite.

Also, you know what? Geese is sick. I'm a KoF fan as well. You can knock him if you want, but you can't say it isn't impressive how well the boys managed to cobble him into the game and actually have him work just as Geese would, but still play nicely with with the core Tekken mechanics.

By many fans, I meant many fans. I didn’t decide opinions for everyone. Contrary to what you seem to believe I am, I am not so short-sighted as to wholeheartedly put all trust into TZ, 8WR, Facebook (although I haven’t used it for years), etc. and that I’m unaware of this being an actual planet. However, SNS are extremely considerable especially at this point, as not everyone is so ignorant and lazy as to organize their damn thought process and think of others’, i.e. the creators. What I’m saying is that I would like to know the alleged factors behind what I’ve actually been directly told by Harada to be the thought process. Because of course the developers are no joke, but when the product is out, fans are no joke either. Only half-related but my university has a FG club of 74 members collectively; someone asked us before holiday break, “best and worst game of 2017” and I said I didn’t really know the best, but I wouldn’t say Tekken 7 was ‘the worst’, but I was just hella disappointed. I was extremely shocked at the majority of the room agreeing with me.

Arms and Pokken were new-ish ips and Nintendo exclusives
Revelator 2 was more a expansion than anything really
Those are also factors-
As far as we know, right now, most big fighters got updated in 2017, so it is most likely there won't be a lot of competition, as far as new sequels to other fighters.
And as much I love GG, it is very niche in the scheme of things, and Rev 2 wasn't actually that great of an update (the balance changes weren't that good)

ARMS is more of a boxing game with a fighting game twist.

Pokken DX was a re-release/update. And Switch exclusive like ARMS.

Ultra Street Fighter II was another re-release/updated version of an old game and exclusive to Switch too.

Then you have, MvCI. A game which shit the bed and rolled around in it.

Honestly, Tekken 7's only real competition all year was Injustice 2, and Tekken 7 lost fighting game of the year awards to it because NRS got that perfect balance of content that pleases the casuals and gameplay that attracts pro players shit on lock.

Right now the only game I think might be competition for Calibur is Dissidia, but Dissidia is not a traditional fighter and it is really an early year game(I have no idea how it didn't got rushed for Christmas)
Especially with how rushed Dissidia already is too. lol

I don't think you're short-sighted at all. You're just passionate about a franchise and you feel as though you've been let down. I can level with that. I don't think an iteration of a game has come out where people aren't disappointed. Aris is constantly disappointed every time SoulCalibur 2-2 doesn't come out. But much like Aris, I think people need to consider their disappointment pragmatically. You called Harada an idiot earlier, and when I asked you why, you said because he didn't give a shit about fans and making sure everyone's favorite characters were in the game. That's also fair. But that doesn't mean that Harada doesn't care about what the fans think.

Much like first person shooters and various other genres, fighting games are slowly pushing towards being more of an online mutliplayer experience. I think that Harada predicts Tekken (and perhaps even SoulCalibur) eventually being a much larger presence in the competitive fighting game community, and is making decisions around that reality. What we used to think made these games good aren't going to cut the mustard moving forward, and Harada knows that. Tekken 6 and TTT2 had astounding roster counts. Everyone was in 'em. Those games sold like dogshit, which tells Harada and Bamco that rosters alone won't sell games.

Yeah I noticed that. Any time they posted anything on their Facebook page people would be like "Oh that's cool. You know what would be even better though? SOUL CALIBUR FREAKING SIX!" I figured they quit updating their Facebook earlier this year because they got sick and tired of listening to it.

They told people to spam them about scvi. If that upset them it's their own fault.

I mean, sure, but I don't think that's what they meant by spam. Just go and look at some of the comments if you wish. It's just people ruthlessly putting down the company and the franchise.

Regarding the Amy/Viola thing. I hope they keep both to be honest. Even though I hate Amy's design, her moveset is pretty cool and so is Viola's.

I forgot to address whoever likened Amy’s moveset to “an insult to Raphael” . . . What the fuck? Amy’s moveset is gorgeous. Although she had many moves from Raphael, her father who wields the same weapon, her style is extremely balletic and made very interesting by the use of parries that doubled as stances. The diversity and expansion she was given was beautiful, so what went wrong with Raphael in turn?

They already did that in the the relationship charts of New Legends of Project Soul, as they decided that Viola and Amy are shown as separate characters in that despite all the evidence and logic that she's just Amy. So it then became implied that she's her twin sister.
It just comes across like they scrambled for what origin and backstory to go with since they weren't forced to go with the original idea that would've been realized in the story on V.
But, due to the crap and hacked up incomplete story, Viola only got information and "development" in outside materials. Which are even kind of inconsistent and muddled.
If any one character would benefit from the retcon, it's absolutely Viola. She was a lot of ideas, and none of them properly ever realized.
In a reboot, they can do whatever they want.
Make her Amy but keep the Viola name.
Simply give Amy her moveset.
Make her Amy at first then Viola by the end of the story.
Whatever.
But her being Amy's twin sister just feels redundant to do now in a retelling like this as it feels as if it benefits less by doing so.
I don't agree with your assessment. The relationship chart is hardly complete or telling of much of anything, like Raphael shares no ties to either Z.W.E.I. or Graf Dumas while he would have traveled with / fought the former and the latter was using his body as a host before he was defeated and Pyrrha took Soul Edge. These are also pretty obvious to people who paid attention in-game and then the supporting lore (primarily by New Legends of Project Soul) more or less confirms at the very least the Graf Dumas = Raphael part, which can logically flow into the fact that Raphael's body and Z.W.E.I. both being dumped off the same cliff in story mode, they would have met, possibly teamed up, to look for Viola and Amy, unknowingly looking for the same person. When they found her, then conflict would arise and the rest would be the actual story developments that we never got.

But what if they take Viola....
and give her Amy's color palette (including the hair color)?

She'd look something like this (Amy's all grown up now):
SC5.Viola.1pCAS4.jpg

the inverse would be:
SC4.Amy.1pCAS.jpg

Bamco doesn't really owe us anything - not even an explanation, not even a game.
Bamco should care about their fans if they want more money. If Bamco make shit game then of course revenue will be low or even don't cover costs.

Pro players will play any worst shit game just for real money, rewards, prizes and they absolutely don't care about how bad game (Tekken 7, SCV example). Casuals will never play any shit game because they play game NOT for real money, rewards, prizes. Tekken 7 lost because it's even worse than Tekken 5.

so.. you are saying Pro players are the true loyal fans and that Casuals are only fickle bandwagoners ?

Always found interesting how in Amy's art her colour scheme uses Raphael's as a base

Oh yay, another Casual X Tournament players fight, like we hadn't had one of those in a whole day. In a seriousness guys, please keep in mind both sides have their rights to think the way they do, it is a video game and you play for whatever reason you wish for, stop antagonizing each other and try to think about how fun SC6 will be aslongasregettousemeter
