SOULCALIBUR 6: News, leaks and information discussion.

SoulCalibur I had Siegfried and Nightmare as two separate characters, because it retold an abridged version of SoulBlade where he was still Siegfried. It's likely because this Nightmare is using SoulCalibur III-V moves that we will also get Siegfried using his proper Siegfried moves which is a lot of what Nightmare was doing in SoulCalibur I-II.

No he's not. At a glance it looks like he's using Nightmare II's moveset, but upon closer inspection he's also clearly using Siegfried's stances, like the Chief Hold, he has a couple of Siegfried moves that Nightmare II did not have. It seems like they're making him a mixture of Nightmare II and Siegfried, which makes sense thematically because Siegfried is possessed by Soul Edge at this point.

Here's my input on the trailer reveal characters.

Grøh: He looks very interesting to begin with, though I was hoping that he would have a more Asian appearance (a la Dynasty Warriors). His moves are dope and I can't wait to see how he and Kilik connect in terms of story.

Nightmare: Glad to see Nightmare back and more badass than ever, especially with his special move.

Xianghua: YAAAASSSS XIANGHUA!!! Her moves are fast, slick and fun to watch. Plus, she's got her Krita-Yuga sword back, which could only mean that she'll be wielding Soul Calibur again.

Kilik: YAAAASSS KILIK!!! Glad to see him back with his Kali-Yuga again, but when he tapped into that evil energy of his and went berserk, I was blown away.

Overall, that was one hell of a trailer.

Also because the stance thing really drove Siegfried mains away, the devs might have given some of them to Nightmare instead. Also it's gonna be weird seeing him use specials without the ice if he never gets SC in the story.

I'm not a huge fan of Groh's design as it seems strangely... Modern? His gameplay looks very fun and varied though. I think he will be a 'management' style character and will no doubt be juggling a few different things while he plays - including his opponents ;)

The rest is pretty exciting, but also felt like a checklist of major players. I think I will be more excited when some of my mains roll out, but the fact that these characters are getting OTHER people hyped is good enough for me. I hope this game garners enough of a following to grant the same longevity that SCV enjoyed.

Edit: I'll be honest with myself - little as I like Groh's design - it's clearly going to attract fans of anime/shonen.

But that does not rule Siegfried out at all. Sure, both were the same character for a while, but in SC3 and SC4, it was Siegfried's armor, filled with evil, right? Different characters, yet it would still make sense for it to be Siegfried's voice.

Well that might have made sense, except he didn't have Siegfried's voice actor in either of those games.

EDIT: Dante already mentioned. That's what I get for keeping the thread open while I'm distracted with work

I just hope not all the new characters are like Groh, design wise. There are plenty of untouched places in the world they could take some historical inspiration from without going into overdesigned anime bunkum.

It's sc2 nightmare (Siegfreid) and scv nightmare combined with some new things as well. I just watched a YouTube video with gameplay.

I really love the redesigns of old characters (Xianghua costume is lovely, Nightmare's cloak is an awesome touch) and the new character as well! Now can't wait to see some gameplay video, hopefully tomorrow? Maybe in the build we'll see a new stage as well?

Overdesigned anime bunkum? Tell me a single time when the Soul series was not anime inspired. I really find this funny, people complain that more recent japanese games are way too "anime-inspired" in comparison to old ones, but I'm sooooo sorry to disappoint you, ALL of them were ALWAYS anime-inspired. They did not become more anime now, you are just more familiar with anime now than you were before, thats why now is more easily noticeable. The thing is every single anime aspect of Soul Calibur has always been in it, including designs.

Yeah, saw that video, it's more Nightmare than Siegfried, but it's not straight Nightmare II. Again, makes sense thematically since this was when Siegfried was possessed and thus some of his personality is getting through, but only some.

Are we seriously semi panicking over Siegfried not being in? Gotta love this series. Each game everyone is holding onto their mains for dear life in hopes that they won't be cut!!!!!!

Edit: LOL at them reusing some of Kilik's 13 year old voice clips from SCIII

I'm not saying the series was never anime inspired, but you can be inspired without dialing it up to 11.

To me, the series has been straying further and further away from its historical roots. I've seen reactions from several people on various forums saying that this new character looks like he's from the future, having no anchor to the time period whatsoever.

So I disagree that this guy is just par for the course.

I do think it's cool that Project Soul sometimes unintentionally takes ideas from fans.

I've seen on a few message boards for years the hopes of a character with a darth maul kind of sword and others who wanted a dual sword staff thing. So this fulfills that idea that I and other have dreamed up

Interesting thing, if you catch in the gameplay video, Sophitia taunt Groh, not completed, seems to be "A miscalculation...", Sophitia taunt is usually "Perhaps I was too much" and only changes to characters she had relationships, like most characters.

In IV she would say
Naughty Child- Tira
Give Up- Lizardman and Cervantes
What a shame- Nightmare
Don't try to confuse me- Cassandra

I wonder if that hints that he is involved in her story.

I don't think Groh is over-designed. He's not nearly as bad as the costumes in SC4, anyway. Then again, my opinion might change depending on how often he goes into glowing-rave mode.

But I do agree with your point that more historically-inspired characters would be nice. I really hope Groh fits into the world of SC and he isn't just a goddamn time traveler.
