1. indeed google translate says ozuru means sorry. but google translate results may be edited, thus unreliable without understanding of the language.
please provide a different source, screenshot of a japanese dictionary, or a sentence, where this word appears in the context of apology

2. japanese surname, yes, you probably mean 大鶴. first off, this would be written as ooduru, or oodzuru, since the second character reads originally tsuru. then, tsuru afaik is a crane.

3. lastly, there is the issue of actual spelling on the website. オーズル. no japanese person would spell big crane/stork in this way. there are several reasons for that which I don't currently have time to get into.

4. can you provide a screenshot of オーズル for a male given name? I'm quite interested in this.

You're acting like this piece of information is CRUCIAL to the game and knowing is going to make a big difference. It's not. Right or wrong, there is no impact on anything gameplay or story related, really. Calm yourself.

The name Curtis triggers me so bad. I have a whole new level of respect for 'Groh' because at least it doesn't sound like a name you'd expect to hear in the modern era. I hope Curtis is just a mistranslation.

Either that, or Groh really is from the future and Curtis is too. That's the only way that shit would make sense.

Is this game a reboot or prequel?, or requel or preboot....kinda annoying how vauge they're being about it.

From the facebook interview with Okubo:

First, in SC6 Mitsurugi and Sophitia have become young again, in terms of timeline we will be returning to SC1 & SC2. Reviewing the whole series, the origin, the tale of where Soul Edge separates from Soul Calibur haven’t been told in great detail, but that is where we think is most important and where we are confident (in telling a moving tale perhaps?) and we would like to tell this tale, and for that returning the timeline back to SC1 & SC2. You might think, hey doesn’t that make the story the same as SC1 & SC2? Well, how the destiny and fate of each character turns out, please play to find out after the game is released.

I remember they've specifically emphasised the reboot angle previously as well, so it sounds like it'll be an alternate (and expanded) retelling of SCI and II.

Maybe I'm just not reading it correctly but it seems they through around the word "reboot" but when they go into detail it sounds like a prequel. Only reason I'm saying anything about it is because of roster speculation based on what story they're going with.

Interesting bit of trivia: If SCVI doesn't feature a new female character, it will be a first* in Namco's history. Every Tekken and every SoulCalibur previously has introduced at least one new female.

(*Although this is excluding the Tekken Tag Tournament games, which don't typically feature any new characters.)

It's a retelling of the original Soulcalibur era, it's a new timeline so in turn it's a reboot.

“Grøh” doesn’t make sense - “Grø“ does though ;)

You say it like it rhymes with”sir”.

And although Curtis sounds very modern, it’s actually a very old name - it’s old French and literally means, as you’d expect, “courteous”.

Only having two newcomers, both being male and related, would suck horribly. The classic SC characters are great, but the last thing I want is another SCIV where the roster is just the kitchen sink with almost no design innovation. If you won't add a bunch of newcomers, at the very least, if it's a reboot, change the vets to be dramatically different from the original timeline. If I wanted the same old characters from SCI, I'd just play SCI. It's still a great game.

That leaked list, while a little light on vets and heavy on guests, is a great balance of new and old for a reboot.

It's a retelling of SCI within a different timeline.

It does feel weird for there to be no new females in a series that can be considered waifu-friendly. I'd be okay if she replaced Cassandra. Yeah I see the latter as the Joe to Sophie's Steve.

You mean SC V, because it seems you are asking for SC V

Also, can we stop the whole "Only male new comers suck." why is it relevant? In the slightest if the newcomers are male or female.

I've been reading that "Groh" is either a mistranslation or an incorrect Norwegian name. If his name would make more sense to be "Groholt" as it suggested, then I would want them to fix it and rename him that. Its just a detail that would irk me if thats the case.
