While I love Amy, I'm not sure the statement that she is a more popular character than Raphael is necessarily accurate. I've seen Raphael be more highly requested overall - even on the youtube vids, comments that ask for Raphael get like 50+ likes while not a lot of people are asking for Amy.

I mean, that's pretty much the ideal if they want Amy to be Viola moving forward. It helps Raphael be more viable and lets us have both characters with unique fighting styles, it seems pretty win-win-win across the board if you ask me.
But I stand by the fact that they're not modifying the story, that they're expanding the story, so Amy's story relies on Raphael, so if we don't have Raphael, we don't have Amy, so Raphael comes first.

Anyone have any thoughts on the "Azwel" leak? There's an anon who shows up now and again in /v/ SC threads who claims to have worked on the localisation well over a year ago, and says the base roster was clear to him from how the game files (specifically the "narrator" strings) correlate to the following characters:
Talim
Tira
Voldo
Astaroth
Cervantes
Raphael (he's confused by the sweating over this and claims that Raph has full narration strings; "he's in there, clear as day")
Lizardman
Seong Mina
Hwang (however, supposedly he didn't have a narrator segment at the time, so he might not be playable)
Azwel (related to Groh, they apparently belong to the same organisation, likely his rival/father and the other newcomer)
He also mentions a bunch of generic strings addressed to the "Player", probably the CaS, and that plenty of characters fight CaS characters (Taki versus some dudes from the Fuma clan, Sophie fights some Malfested; Voldo and Yoshi also have a lot of mook fights).
I take this with a huge grain of salt, as should you, but it's interesting to me and honestly about what I realistically expect at this point. I'm also desperate for Raphael and will embrace any delusion that he's in there...

I was thinking Soulcalibur would do the same thing Smash did with Mii Fighters. Either make CAS size uniform or give the same size as whatever style you pick.
I think Talim's SC let's her chain more moves together and have them combo as well.
When Astaroth gets announced, I think his SC will give him more guard breaks, quake stuns, or super armor.

Let's solve this debate with Talim's size, right here.
Talim is the same size as Sophitia in SC2?! Remember that SC2 features the largest character models in the series, with SC3 featuring the smallest and SC5 and 6 being more or less bigger, but still smaller than SC2.
Things you guys gotta realize, though.
One, we're working with characters from the SC selves and characters from SC2. That means that Xianghua is 16 here, Sophitia is 21, and so on and so forth. So for Talim to be the same size as Xianghua is not unusual given that they're a year apart effectively in SC1.
Secondly, models sizes are generally very uniform since SC3. This is not a game where certain characters got to tower over others and really tends to help with game balance. We don't want a situation where characters are so short that highs generally whiff the targets.
Thirdly, model sizes can be changed rather easily. Animation on the other hand, is a little harder and some animations can cause problems if the character is too small or too big.
Fourthly, character stances make heights difficult to really grasp who is taller than the other. Talim, historically, does not take a wide stance compared to other characters. This is also why Nightmare - when he became his own character with his own move list - also became shorter, because he's taken a slightly different stance from Siegfried.
Finally, hats and hairstyles can make character heads look bigger or smaller depending on the size of the hat and hair. You're probably getting fooled by optical illusions.

Leaks at this point, I feel like are just too easy to get right. Tira, Voldo, Astaroth, Cervantes, and Lizardman are basically 99.999...% inclusions. Hwang is really the only name that fits the last spot that makes sense with between SoulBlade/SoulEdge and SoulCalibur timeline, so that's also pretty easy. That leaves two or three slots. If we do have Hwang, Seong Mi-na seems fairly a given. Raphael is pretty obvious if they really are trying to keep all the unique styles, there's no way they'd leave out the rapier. Grøh's father, whatever his name is, if it's Azwel or Calynpolk or whatever in the hell it actually is, that leak was so forever ago that anyone can add it and claim their leak is legitimate. Cassandra could also make it, quite very possibly.
This isn't "leak" so much as "rational thought", at this stage of the game.

I agree. If you look at this more recent poll, Raphael beats Amy 15th to 24th.
I realize in past polls that Amy has been more popular, but honestly I think a good chunk of her popularity had to do with being a stronger character than Raphael in each game they shared. Raph has be regulated to the bottom 3-5 characters tier wise in every game he has been in except pre patch SCV. Bamco needs to stop that. :P

Totally agree with you. I guess giving the other newcomer a name will betray the rest of it as true or false sooner or later, but yeah, it's definitely "safe". No surprises in there.

Placing Tira in as a possible character as "rational thought" is not rational. Certainly plausible for a DLC character, but not part of the base roster.

Once again, looking at this, there's no way that Talim ISN'T occupying the space above Zasalamel. It fits in terms of timeline, and we just got confirmation that the timeline goes no further than 1590. A full year before SC2.
Even assuming that Tira would not feature in the story mode(doubtful, but possible), She would be one of the three characters who wouldn't be in it. We can't quite nail who wouldn't be in the story mode, but can assume that Cervantes wouldn't be in, the second newcomer probably wouldn't be in it, either. But of all the possible characters to get a story mode, Tira would not, over a DLC character and two fan favorites (Talim and Zasalamel). Doesn't make sense. The third would be an Edgemaster/Inferno, probably.

To be fair, it's not that hard to turn him into a minor character in Amy's backstory if they wanted to go that route. Although It would definitely feel weird.
Frankly I don't care about popularity and I don't care which one makes it in. It had just better be at least one or the other, if not both.

I have no clue where this "Amy is super popular" stuff is coming from. I barely heard anyone complain that her style wasn't in SC5 but there was a ton of people complaining that Zas and Talim weren't in. I don't remember seeing a huge amount of Amy players on SC4 either.

Can't say if it's true or not, but it does line up with my thinking of the rest of the roster. Azwel would fit the blur beneath Groh, Cerv/Lizzy/Asta below Ivy, Voldo above Yoshi, Raphael would fit the blur below Yoshi, Talim above Zas. That would leave Seong and Tira as DLC. Hwang as well if he's actually in, if not, probably another guest character instead.

When you work with statistics, you rarely can poll the entire "audience" to get 100% perfect data. You take a sample size that gives you a reasonable margin of error. Most presidential polls here in the states don't use 10,000 or even 5,000 people for example.
Now, for a game like this where there is a large roster of characters(candidates) there is more of a margin of error, but in this case Raphael has almost double the votes Amy does and is significantly higher on the list. That likely exceeds margins of error.

Tira goes below Sophitia. Tira is confirmed to be a fully-fledged member of Bird of Passage at the age of 9, which would be the year 1583. She can be in all of this game and is completely justified. We know of her time as Bird of Passage, but we have not seen it. Now we can see it, we can also see how she discovered Soul Edge, how she found out about Pyrrha, there's a lot of room for Tira's inclusion in this story, far more than Talim. Talim is on the tail end, Tira is actually in the meaty portion of the story.

The problem is when someone says "cHaRacTer B Is MoRe PoPuLaR tHan C".
I'll use Mi-Na as an example, In all polls Mi-Na was in excellent position, but if you get this specific thread or Gamefaqs, a lot of users don't want her back because "she is a clone" or "she has no relevance in the story", but if you look at comments on YouTube, Twitter, SC Reddit, SC Facebook you will see that the demand for her is big.

I'm sorry, but it's borderline asinine to argue that Tira is unlikely to be in the base roster or story when at this point she's one of the MOST LIKELY characters apart from the ones who have already been soft confirmed such as Astaroth and Cervantes. There would be no viable reason to leave her out. What's your reasoning for trying to say she has no place, bro?
