Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

So far as mimics are concerned, Inferno and Elysium are the only ones that make sense to me and also have interesting unique gameplay changes like Inferno's crazy unblockables and combo extensions in SC2 and Elysium's modified movelists and her awesome CE.

I suppose it would be cooler if instead of randomising movelists they instead combined all movelists of everyone who ever wielded the swords in canon; since they can change forms at will it would be super cool to see Inferno brandish Cerv's dual blades, launch the opponent and in a fiery haze it transforms to Nightmares' greatsword for a follow up. Pyrrha's style could also be super cool in a mashup list but ig that won't work in SCVI.

I don't really like Edgemaster as a mimic. I would rather he was a cool CAS-able NPC.

That's certainly an interesting idea. Inferno's moveset being a mashup of Cervantes and Nightmare and maybe Elysium being a mashup of sorts of Xianghua and Siegfried? Though, of course, Sieg didn't wield Soulcalibur until SC3, did he?
Also, design-wise, what do you think would work for Elysium if they ever brought her back? I've always thought that some kind of crystalline angel would be pretty cool. With her face resembling the one we see on Patroklos' version of Soulcalibur (pre alpha pat obviously).

That's basically Necrid, isn't it?

They could go with a sort of "The sword knows which form to take because it knows its worthy successor type thing" like how Soulcalibur changed to Setsuka/aPat's sword of its own volition. That way they could include the next gen of wielders as a sort of premonition, so then ØPyrrha(if it's still canon) can be included in Inferno's and Sieg/Pat can be included in Elysium's.

I would love if Elysium had a semi corporeal form for her SC similar to how her wings looked on CAS characters (I think they were white on her but on CAS they were semitransparent and shimmery) with an outfit similar to her P2. A proper, divine looking armour with gold accents and rich materials/patterns would look nice but that's all dependent on what form she takes as she can't present as Sophitia in this timeline. I would love her face to be a reflective mask actually, so to whoever she faces, she resembles themselves?

Edit: For Elysium's Soul Charge I imagine her transformation being something like this:

except faster, with less bloom, and more menacing like:

Yeah but Necrid didn't really make sense so

Necrid's a bonus guest character, he's got about as much chance of returning as Angol Fear. I suppose that doesn't eliminate his kind of moveset from returning though (like how Aeon ate Kratos and absorbed his moves).

The main reason why I want him to be in SoulCalibur VI is mainly because I enjoyed playing Assassin in SoulCalibur II and his gameplay is very different from Yun-seong. That moveset is just a lot more fun to play with than Yun-seong's moveset and I feel a lot more comfortable with it than Yun-seong.
I'm in complete agreement. I loved his moveset in SC2, and honestly think it was better than his SC3 incarnation. I think they changed the input for his A+K kick to 33_99K, which seriously hurt its usefulness. I liked that they gave him some back-turned moves, but his "Assassin" version is still my favorite.

As far as adding stuff to his moveset, I'd love for him to borrow Yun's crane stance. Personality-wise, I think it fits Hwang better anyway.
More than anyone I worry for Raph.
You know, one thing I don't think we've discussed much is the issue of cultural representation. It's usually a topic that comes up more often in regards to modern fighting games, but it's a thing in SoulCalibur too.

The Korean characters were added to appeal to gamers in Korea, and Raphael was designed to appeal to French players. In Raphael's case, I remember reading that his inclusion was (at least in part) inspired by how successful SoulCalibur 1 had been in France.

I think it's nice when game developers do stuff like this, because it's an acknowledgement that they're aware of these communities around the world. It might sounds sappy, but it almost suggests that they care. Unfortunately, the flip side of this is that removing these characters sends the opposite message. "We don't care about appealing to French/Korean players anymore" is how it reads.

While I don't know how active the Korean SC community is, the French SC community is probably the strongest in the world. Bamco better not insult them, or I'll be offended on their behalf.

Seong-Mina was in Soul Edge in the arcade version and was Korean. There was no attempt at appeasement here. Arthur was the one who was created with the sole intent of of appeasement. And only in the Korean arcades.

Please don’t look at any character or any other character not named Arthur as an attempt at appeasement. Characters and styles were brought because they wanted to be, not for any other reason. Once again we’ve had Korean representation in every Soul game since the first. On,y SCV dropped the Korean characters.

You'd need 4 or 5 mimics to equal the amount of work put into a fully fledged character at the very least.
& @Klimat
Maybe I failed to express myself properly. I meant that a slot wouldn't be wasted on a mimic. Instead, it would be used for a single style character.
Forgive me if I missed something crucial in this conversation. I otherwise really just skip speculation posts. :P

That still wouldn't happen. We wouldn't have a slot left for a normal character, we'd just have one less total slot. Mimics are done because there's enough time and money in the budget for a few models, voice, and a handful of animations, but a full character would be manifold more expensive and unable to be created with the game's budget.

I hope there are no mimics. Its really just random select as a character. Have one or the other imo.
No, its not. Randomselect selects one character for the whole playthrough, a mimic picks one moveset per round which challenges a player's mastery of multiple characters and an enemy's ability to adapt to a changing enemy.

That can simply be added as an option with random select. No need for mimics.

Actually I'd rather have a mimic than I would random select. The mimic is useful for the reasons he mentioned, random select is just a person being lazy. Plenty of other ways to do that than having a slot dedicated to it.
