Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

You can GI or RE anything that isn't a guard break or unblockable. So yes, you can for most supers.
Good that you mentioned that. Most people think (as did I, until recently) that RE can be activated simply, without any consequences, save for the possibility that an opponent will step, but characters are equipped with many GB moves, which further complicates things.

To reversal edge some negativity I'll just say how excited I am for the game and what they did to it. It has most of what I really wanted in the next SC, only thing lacking is Cassandra/Amy, but it got a loooot right. So, yay, can't wait to waste some of my income, and would have preordered allready if only the season pass could be ordered seperately... Still goi g to buy it though, just later.

Curse this game for coming right before my exams. But at least it will be waiting for me right after I finish them...waiting for its Papa and his mains :sc1sop1::sc1xia1:

Or something like :
- Raphaaael !
spectators : ...
- Cervaaaantes !
spectators : ......
- The end bye ! Oh we almost forgot someone... Seeeetsuka !!!
spectators : \o/

But... as DLC.
Spectators: buuuuuuh
Okubo: Sorry guys, it was Bamco's decision.
Fans: Ok we buy it.

Me: Still waiting for Hwang and Lizzardman...

Amy: Hope only brings disappointment.

All: We all knew that since SCV.

I hope they won't just reveal what has already leaked. Need an extra to generate the last straight line of the hype.
Setsuka was an example, probably won't be in, but if they managed to keep her secret in the base roster, she would be enough significant for the last hype !

Another crazy dream :
Raphael, Cervantes and...
Last game mode : shop ! With Valeria + Lynette + Hualin ! Welcome back ! *_*
Or another crazy last minute surprise, for example, the environments we have already seen but with animations, and a raft for Tira.

Odds are they will just reveal Cervy and Raph next, but I think when they do, there'll be a new build of the game (since clearly they have one that they're probably planning to bring to some event or another, they just brought it to the wrong one). So at least we'll finally see more gameplay of all the revealed characters (Voldo, Talim, Mi-Na, Astaroth etc.)

Plus there's this mystery 'Coming Soon' game mode to announce, which could just be Arcade as some have speculated but who knows what direction they might take Arcade. There could be some interesting quirks to it. If it's just Online Mode though I'll be a little disappointed 'cause that's a given and doesn't really need teasing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hwang is part of the first Season of DLC. It makes sense since they've tried to recreate the SCI roster, with some favourites from SCII and III thrown in. Rock may also be DLC too. The only thing that goes against both of them is the lack of popularity. But it looks like they tried really hard to remake/recapture the SCI era so I can't imagine Rock and Hwang being missing entirely somehow :/

Please just stop complaining or go boycott in silence. There's still no valid reason for all the negativity.
Yeah, silence everybody who doesn't agree and call thrm crazy. That will TOTALLY not make you look like a fanboy or shill.
-2 story modes
-amazing graphics
-great characters
-great music
-amazing gameplay
-CaS

and people still complain about 2P costumes and stages ...
Remove the graphics part (they're not impressive at all tbh) and you have the reasons I'm still getting this game. 2P outfits are nice, but don't make or break it for me. Stages I like just for visual variety (playing SC2 a ton only gets tiring from seeing the same things over and over), but don't make too much difference in gameplay. I'm only upset that the game couldn't at least have Hwang and Aeon to have what I'd consider a bare minimum in terms of roster for a SC1 reboot, but they're almost guaranteed to have at least one in the SP anyway.

Criticism is fine, but to keep regurgitating the same gripes about the lack of generic x or y is annoying and unnecessary.

The game is beautiful (not many high profile fighting games look good, often eschewing graphics in favor of mechanics, and SCVI doesn’t seem to be skimping out on both), there’s so much content to sift through at first glance without sacrificing quality, and the roster is somewhat fleshed out in my opinion, at the expense of what we have yet to see in the the Season Pass.

We get things like RE and simplified moves because most new or casual players are okay with not being serious. Nothing is gonna make folks be better than them putting in effort and reaching out. The RE mechanic was made to benefit both sides of the fence and it's linear so folks will get blown up for overreliance. I felt like Namco was trying to push mindgames through all the new stuff.
I'm not saying new mechanics need to make new players get better. I'm worried that RE will discourage potential "serious" players from learning the game. Speaking personally, it would have been a turn-off for me.

I'm pretty confident that SoulCalibur VII, if it's ever made, won't have reversal edge. And fans will laud this as a sign that Project Soul really gets it and is finally returning the series to its roots. Remind me in ten years to see if I'm correct.

It seems like we basically have to constantly bait out the RE and step punish with occasional guard breaks and unblockables. You don't want to throw out anything else too much because if you do, its back to RE spam from the opponent. Certain characters thrive more than others off pressure and i feel a stalling mechanic will do far more harm to them than the rest of the cast.

I wonder what Project Soul's / Bamco's model for the launch roster and post-release is...

If they are going for a low initial roster count, they may be looking to be more like an improved version of Street Fighter V, with more modes and characters, but not too much more. SFV sales were definitely harmed by their release and initial public reception, but they have kept going on strong especially with DLC. SFV's reviews were decent enough, and perhaps Soul Calibur is aiming for a bit above that.

Even though SC characters are more work, consumers often gravitate to quantity, especially when it comes to DLC, so 6 characters for SF per season has worked well. As others have pointed out, I think having 4 chars for S1 would be okay, especially if it comes with other things and have some of the most requested chars, and later they can expand to 6 chars for S2, or stick with 4 chars but come at a lower price point.

Personally if anemic content is the only option then I think SC6 should be sold at a lower price on release. While it's most likely too late now (because people have already pre ordered), the deluxe version should be slashed to £60 and the vanilla version to £40. The price you pay for the amount of content you get I think is going to turn off a lot of potential buyers. Compared to other games it's releasing with there will be customers who will buy what they think is good value for their money. A reality of the buyers market and with low sales will lead to the mind set of dead game. Bandai Namco needs to pull some magic out of their ass if they want this to be successful like exciting future content shortly after the game releases.

Hmm I wonder what the chances are of there being a pre-order-like bonus character besides Tira. Tira is technically for the season pass (and not a pre-order) but she likely was meant to be one prior to the backlash...do we think they might have originally planned to throw a character in as a pre-order bonus for the game as well?

Perhaps the backlash on Tira changed their mind.

Tira isn't pre-order anything.

She's Day 1 DLC whether you pre-order the season pass or not.

Anemic content my ass. There is nothing anemic about this game. It's fat as hell with content. The only way it's anemic is if the only content you care about is roster size as CaS more than covers the obscene 2p outfit complaint. This game is probably the fattest single player content fighter out there. Which makes it fill a special niche the others fail at terribly. I mean seriously you're calling a game with as much text as an rpg with an in debth character creator and a full story for every character anemic?

The game is made to appeal to a lot if people including those who want more to do than compete online or spam arcade mode over and over. Supplying that in exchange for a slightly smaller roster or missing out on your favorite character does not make it anemic.
