Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

It’s a foolish endeavor to expect the same amount of content that the ps2 games had. It will simply never happen again for Tekken or SoulCalibur without DLC. Those days are gone and they aren’t never coming back.

That being said you can see the team made an attempt to at least TRY to bring this back to the standards of the old ps2 games so that is admirable.

What I don’t appreciate is being mislead about the roster.

But hey each Soul Calibur game needs a negative meme about it.

SCV has the 3 mimics, so I guess SCVI can wear the 4 day one empty dlc slots proud

The 21 somethings is probably characters with extra weapons. At 7 weapons per character, 21 * 7 = 147 + 2 = 149. The 2 could be for characters who don't have extra weapons, for a total of 23 characters. The ones without extra weapons are probably Azwel and Geralt. This adds credence that the two slots on the inside are not DLC characters. Hwang and Lizardman faith added.
So a reasonable best case scenario would be that the base roster has 23 and characters and that the 3 remaining characters would most likely be Hwang, Lizardman/Aeon, and Inferno.

Inferno uses the Soul Edge weapons and EDGEMASTER wields the Soul Calibur weapons! Fans riot! (Because of hype, probably.)

Two mimics, and neither of them Olcadan?

Yes, and I would even go further to say that this is a very likely scenario to happen, not even just labeling it as a best case scenario.

If you believe you're being misled, that's on you, but there's evidence and support that there is nothing misleading about it, that there will not be 4 day one empty DLC slots, believing that is simply pessimism.

Just stop. They aren’t going to give a character only 2 weapons
Dampierre says hi, as well as Ezio, technically speaking. The character with only two weapons could very well be Geralt.

Ivy having a Soul Edge variant opens the possibility that everyone will have a Soul Edge variant, to be used by the Inferno style. Or that it will be like SoulCalibur IV, where some characters will have a Soul Edge variant, some characters will have a Soul Calibur variant, and a select few like Talim and Kilik will have both. But I feel like everyone having a Soul Edge variant is more likely, as a throwback to SoulCalibur II.

Groh can probably dual soul edge and calibur

Unless they suddenly decided to stop reusing assets, I’m inclined to think that isn’t actually a Soul Edge variant for Ivy because that’s not what her original Soul Edge variant looks like. Even then, Soul Edge and Soul Calibur variants have stayed consistent for most characters in the game, barring a few exceptions like the canonical wielders: Nightmare (who seems to have a different one every game), Siegfried (SC3-SCV), Xianghua (strangely enough her SC variant has stayed the same only because it was the original), Pyrrha/Patroklos/Elysium (Soul Edge was specifically redesigned/different from Sophitia’s to make it more representative of a canon wielder, same with the SC variant for Elysium; ...Patroklos).

@Fatal_Exodus -- I see it more as using the same design motif from SoulCalibur V. All of the Soul Calibur weapons used by Elysium used the new design idea, where it was like Patroklos's/Elysium's Soul Calibur but reshaped into the respective weapon, but they were solid blue crystal. While this Ivy weapon looks to be like Pyrrha's Soul Edge but reshaped into Ivy's weapon, but with solid red crystal. I realize that the canon wielder of Soul Edge is Siegfried's NIghtmare again in this game, but it may have been easier to work with solid red crystal designs rather than reusing the Soul Edge weapons from SoulCalibur II and having to upscale them in higher resolution to make them look proper.

Raphael's Nightmare didn't have the solid red crystal Soul Edge in SoulCalibur V, either.

You can explain away the extra weapons by some characters having both soulcalibur and souledge
There is no precedent for characters having different numbers of weapons available. Why would only two characters have both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur?
It seems far more reasonable to me that one character (Geralt) just has 1P/2P weapons.

They better not recycle SC5's design on the weapons. Do you mean with the faces on them? That will be very annoying while they are clearly going back to older designs for SE to feature prominently in the game but still use SC5s weapon designs on anyone else.

Is 100% Raphael.
That's the final roster. Accept it.
No Cassandra, no Hwang, No Lizardman...

Lol yeah, that's why I said "most likely Raphael" I'm fine with the roster the way it is tbh, but until there is concrete proof that the roster is final I'll stay open to the idea that we still have a couple characters to be revealed. I'm really not going to be disappointed either way because I know they'll show up at some point.

@Ninjaguy446 -- I don't think we've seen any SoulCalibur IV 1p hair yet, but we also saw Cassandra's SoulCalibur IV 2p hair before, so I'd say it's a good chance that we could very well be seeing a return of SoulCalibur IV parts that didn't make a return for SoulCalibur V. I don't really think we'll get 1p parts, since they were only in Broken Destiny, and those were awfully low resolution and bad quality.
Here's hoping we get Amy's hair and parts! :sc4amy1: (Her 2p is technically the same as her 1p, so this was the one 1p we got in SoulCalibur IV.)

Yeah, that's what I mean, but I doubt they would maybe bring back the faces. Maybe a better comparison would be Nightmare's Soul Edge from SoulCalibur IV, which also featured the solid red crystal design.
