Japanese people don't deal well with that, I think. Female form is always represented in a very restricted manner and anything that is not attractive does not belong in mainstream media. Even in games with body horror themes, the female body and face is very rarely disfigured or mutilated. It usually retains everything above the waist in human form and attractive features - big breasts, nice face with a tiny twist like sharp teeth or maybe a missing eye.I will certainly agree that it feels a bit disappointing to have any races gender locked. Especially the stage 3 malfested I would have loved to see on a female character, but I never really expected it from the start.
They really don't want female characters to be very grotesque / ugly, which is a little lame. I'd love some more monstrous female characters.
