Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Found this on Twitter, it looks like Raphael does not have Albion.

Neat, it's...
...Flambert, Estoc, Royal Rapier, Cup Hilt Rapier, Epee, Holy Antler, and Queen's Guard. Really nice to see the last three making a return, it's been too long.

So the primary criticisms seem to be the small roster, similar visual design to V (and a rehash of V's creation system with less parts), tira controversy (on disc dlc/paid dlc), reversal edge, boring/dull story modes, and over sexualization of the female characters (because male sexualization doesn't mean anything or some hypocritical nonsense).

The primary positives are increase in singleplayer care and attention, deep story mode, the actual combat mechanics for the game, reversal edge, good graphics, creation mode, returning favorites, strong female characters, geralt (being a fitting edition that transferred to the soul series very well), and that the game is just fun to play.

The primary up in the air attribute that could potentially change a ton of these reviews is how well the game plays online. I also find it funny that things praised in one review are exactly what people dislike in another. That said the lowest review I've seen anywhere so far is a 7/10 and everything but that one review has been 8 or higher with the average around 85.

Looking forward to playing it after work on Thursday.

Considering every other reviewer already made their reviews, that's kinda not possible.

If the embargo was universal there would be more than two reviews out by now on Youtube.

The whole point of embargo's is to give everyone the same chance of exposure while also reducing the chance for reviewers to get their reviews out there as soon as possible as a rushed review can damage the quality of it which could affect game sales. However embargo's get abused and usually it's from big corporations to close the market in their favour, this is nothing new.

Did you miss the 3 straight pages of people discussing review scores? Reviews are out, just only two videos have been made.

Pretty much follows my expectations.

Roster could be bigger and a lot of story but the presentation could be improved. Combat and polish otherwise looks fantastic! Super excited for Thursday.

Also, as a sidebar as we wait for release, I agree that many people who criticize female sexualization overlook male sexualization. I also personally don't mind sexualization in games. Having said that, it's almost inarguable that in general, how females are portrayed in games is more narrowly defined than how males are portrayed, and Soul Calibur is no exception. In SC, males are portrayed as normal, sexy muscular, sexy pretty boy, perverted/demented, old man, flamboyant, puritan, or animals/monsters (note that many of those CaS monsteruous options are not available as females). As it is in most fighting games, females are either overly sexy or kawaii. Hilde and Tira are exceptions to this, but one of them isn't here and Tira is DLC. I don't mind it, but I would personally want more variety. (I do find this much less important than many other things, and I would first prefer to have more females to begin with as I have already beat to death on this forum, but I think it is worth a mention especially if reviewers are bringing it up).

You're not understanding what's going off here, only the big corporate bodies are publishing the video reviews and we have direct evidence from Hayate saying the embargo for him was extended. It is well known that deals like this to get an exclusive window above your competitors happens. I can't prove that a big corporation like IGN has done this here but this type of practice is well known in media. Surely you've seen sponsored videos dressed up as early reveals, the most recent one that comes to my mind is Far Cry 5. Again this isn't anything new, this is the way the media beast works.

Except Gameblog, main french videogames websites still didn't release test.
Jv.com review was expected for 1h40 ago, still not here either, same for Gamekult.
So maybe embargo extended in France, Hayate is french too.
Just the U.S. websites published reviews actually ? Maybe embargo extended for non-U.S. websites ? Not a lot of sense i know...

Language barrier plays a part for sure. I mean English speaking reviewers are mainly just concern with English speaking audience.

This makes me ashamed of how many matches I won by making Taki's boobs bounce to distract my opponent :(
